Cross Set is a puzzle game similar to Sudoku.
You have to place numbers such as that there are no repeats in each rows and columns (smallest ones have only digits from 1 to 4 while the biggest have the full 1-9).
Each cell has a limited vector of digits that you can choose the right one from.
Lemme paste it straight from the store page :)

The rule of the game is quite simple:

  • There is an NxN square grid (up to 9x9)
  • The solution is to have every row and column containing every number 1 through N
  • The grid is already constrained by sets of candidates

Some puzzles will be over very quickly, other will need more time and attention;
and here comes the first negative note: there is no way (so far) to save your progress :\
So, if you start a level, you better finish it off or you’ll have to start it over again.

Overall game’s not bad but I doubt you’re gonna like it if you don’t like Sudoku.

Last negative thing (for me) is that achievements didn’t unlock correctly T_T
Missing Complete Level 7, Complete Level 8 and Clear every level (the one you see here on the right, I used the “locked” version though).
The only thing I did different from previous levels is that on level 7, instead of playing from 7-1 to 7-8 as I had done until then, I started with 7-5 because it was smaller and then moved onto 7-1 etc.
I don’t know if this is the ‘cause but I can’t think of anything else.. I’ve also posted in the game hub but got no answer so far.. hope there’s a fix, I would like to avoid SAM if possible.. :\

UPDATE to let you know that after ~10 days I re-installed the game and tried to launch it with my alt first just to see what could happen; it unlocked all the unlockables without playing as soon as game loaded. Started it then with my account and those 3 achievements unlocked instantly :D
Don’t know why the first time I had tried re-installing the game they didn’t unlock.. but it doesn’t matter anymore! =P

Sudoku on steam, cool… Added to wishlist :D
Too bad for broken achievements, hope they fix it.

Btw, how do you calculate “Estimated total reading time”? Some website/program does that for you or what? :D

malabagaa

To be fair, there’s not a single complain about “broken” achievements in the forum, so I’m pretty sure they aren’t :) Either they are badly implemented and I did something that triggered a bug or I was simply unlucky =P

Don’t know if there’s something that can do that.. it surely would be helpful!
I start a timer and try to not read too fast. Then I usually round up the time I got and hope it’s close to the time everyone will spend reading :)

kiseli

Really unlucky then :P Anyway hope it gets fixed :)

And just found cool site Read-o-Metar, which calculates for you :D

malabagaa

Me too =P

ooh, nice! :)
pasted thread into it (except for the right column) and got Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 24 seconds. Contains 283 words as result. I’d say my estimation was not bad ;)

kiseli

Not bad at all :)

RileyHisbert

Added to my wishlist as well~ I love Sudoku, and getting achievements for it would be fun!
I hope they fix your achievement problems, though!

malabagaa

I hope so :)
I think that if you play the levels in order, you’ll unlock all of them just fine :)

I’ll avoid this, because sudoku (and other numbers-based puzzles) scares me to death. Math anxiety can do that to a person.

I’m really commenting because I like how you lay out your posts. They’re very informational, down to the estimated reading time. It feels really considerate that you’re laying everything out everybody knows what’s up. It’s nice c:

First time I hear something similar D:
How did you survive in school?

Thanks :3
I put them because I know they can be useful :) One could have a quick look at the right column and decide if the post/game can be interesting or just skip to the next post :)
Read an article about estimated reading time once and started using it too since then :)

School actually gave it to me - in primary school I was fine in math, began to struggle in high school ( ~age of 14) because I believed the myth that if you’re good at reading/writing you’re not good at math.
Then I had an advanced placement pre-calculus teacher that was absolutely awful to me, refused to help me even after I stayed after school, refused to try to explain things in more than one way to try and find a way that I would understand, and made me cry multiple times in class in front of my peers because I felt so stupid.

After that, numbers make me break out into a cold sweat and I hate if people watch me calculate even something as simple as a tip on a restaurant bill. Fuck that guy. Now I stick to purely creative/language-based/non-numbers-based endeavors.

Sounds like a nice sudoku game, thanks for the discovery! (I played a bunch of Sudoku Quest but it got kinda of grindy, so I’m just playing from time to time now. This one looks really better though). I hope they fix the cheevos, that’s always so annoying.

malabagaa

You’re welcome ^_^
This one’s not too long, don’t worry ;)

I’m going to cover how many puzzles there are, in case you don’t want any spoiler: 8 puzzles per levels 1 to 7 and only one for level 8 = 57. Plus 2 bonus levels of 8 stage each, but I read those should be pretty hard to solve.

To be fair, there’s not a single complain about “broken” achievements in the forum, so I’m pretty sure they aren’t :) Either they are badly implemented and I did something that triggered a bug or I was simply unlucky =P

cbones - LINUX

I bought this back in March on sale. I’m not sure if there has been an update to it that broke the achievements but I didn’t have any issues. I did play each level in order so you may be on to something there.
