October 2020 Progress Report

This might be one of the more varied months in terms of game choice, and in real life as well. I was hoping to go to a local PC store for the RTX 3070 launch but unfortunately my area was hit by Tropical Storm Zeta (Hurricane before it hit me), causing us to lose power & internet for a day and for friends to lose power for days. So it was important for me to get my generator going for the fridge, microwave, and several other things. After stopping it to refuel, the generator battery died and I wasn’t able to start it up until I replaced a spark plug, but all was well except for having to chop up a 50 foot tree branch with a max thickness of nearly one foot.
At least I got a new den which I personally wired for cat 6 to future proof the wiring for multi-gigabit if the networking hardware to support it will ever come down in cost. The rough topography of my home network is visualized here. It basically guarantees speedy 5 GHz coverage throughout the entire house.
Here’s hoping I can snag an RTX 3070 in time for the holidays. I’m watching stock notifiers and retailer pages like a hawk.

On Going Games

Half-Life 2

Fallout 4

I'm continuing my work with the Railroad but while infiltrating another faction its tough not to turn on the Railroad. So I'm going to have to try to find a way to warn the Railroad despite not getting a mission objective option that says so. Hope to "beat" the game in the coming month - Its been a fun romp in the wasteland.

Half-Life 2

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection

The best kart racer I've played for PC. It's over 10 years old, so the graphics & Windows 10 compatibility could be better, but it has solid gameplay & variety. Vehicle types include land, air, and water with many different races and challenges.

Half-Life 2

Risk of Rain 2

I've enjoyed this action roguelite bullet hell-type for several playthroughs which has yielded one win on easy. I'm working on normal difficulty, but don't expect to beat it on hard. This is heavily praised for its co-op ability as well.

EVERSPACE™

Well worth what I paid in a Fanatical sale for this space FPS roguelite - Decent story, fun & addictive gameplay, alright enemy & environment variety, and space is awesome. Makes me curious what this would be like with my sidewinder joystick if I dug it up. This makes me excited for the sequel.

Half-Life 2

Subsurface Circular

1.8 hours
7 of 13 achievements

Narrative driven game with mystery elements about robots in a human world. Kinda slow but interesting story. Only 1-2 parts of 6 remaining. Its getting interesting to play robots against each other in a way.

Stuck

Half-Life 2

Hacktag

8.9 hours
4 of 42 achievements

Great co op hacking game, but I'm playing it single player and its really tough for certain concurrent activities where both the stealth person and the hacker have to be at the same terminal at the same time.

Next Month’s Queue

Going to start some more lighthearted games, because I figure I’ll need more of that with how crazy things may get in the US with the upcoming election.

Aw man, I’m sorry to hear about the Storm hitting your place! But I’m very happy you were safe (or save? God, I hate how I can never keep them apart) \o/

Noble Gamer

Yes I was safe thanks

COVID-19, hurricanes, elections…good thing you have a new den and some nice games to play during these rough times.

Noble Gamer

Exactly, I’m so glad I have a day off to decompress and enjoy the den

Zelrune

Fallout 4 nice. I hated the nuka cola DLC, although I eventually finished it. There is a special quest there that I love.

Noble Gamer

I wouldnt mind getting some of the DLCs but they’re not high on my wishlist either.

Zelrune

I bought them strictly for the achievements, the only one I liked was the Robot one, although Far Harbor was pretty good. Far Harbor was notably more terrifying than the base game though, mostly because There were creatures in the trees that were hard to see because of the fog and darkness. They would drop on top on you and I was mainly sniper because I’m a coward.
