Aquilla

Finished in October (1-2)

Awful month in terms of finished games. I managed to finish two, they were both dissapointing, and I dont think I will be able to do anything more until end of the month and my monthly summary. Well - time for some reviews:

  • Falcon Age

    4 hours playtime

    15 of 28 achievements

Falcon Age

5/10

Huge dissapointment. This is the game about raising and training a falcon - and the falcon part is good - the bird is nice, had a lot of animations, you can collect toys, and outfits for him. But the rest - is just bad. The gameplay is very simple and easy. There is huuuge amount of backtracking through empty map. The story starts very well, but isn’t going anywhere. There are people and choices I should care about, but everything is so rushed I cannot build my own opinion about world and conflict. The ending just happened because ending. There are mechanics, that can be good, but are completely useless in game, like cooking food for your bird, which I really never needed. I’m just sad, I had huge hopes for this game, and it’s meh.

  • Silence

    8 hours playtime

    21 of 46 achievements

Silence

5/10

Another not so good game. I really like Daedalic games. Well, most of them. And I enjoyed The Whispered World, which is a prequel to Silence. But this game… It’s incredibly basic - there is no inventory, almost no logic puzzles, the most common challenge is which of the 10 interactive things on the screen you should click next. You can just do it randomly and you will probably finish the game. Maybe apart of moments, when yu are controlling little shapeshifting bug - those parts can be interesting, because you need to manipulate his shape in a way to finish a riddlr. The story - it’s bacisally a copy of Whispered World. It could be enjoyable, because the plot is OK, but dialogs are weird. I mean - I know what those people want, and their actions are reasonable, but only if I think about them - dialogs seems very random and emotions just happen, if you know what I mean. the plot also seems to have holes - I feel that parts of the game were left on cutting floor, because there are some parts where we just skip some events. All in all - its just mediocre, even if really pretty adventure game.

For a second I thought “Wait - we’re not in October yet.” And then realized, we are indeed in October and next month is November.
Also I was looking forward to Silence, but maybe not.

I loved Silence, the art was amazing, but god the amount of bugs drove me insane. Congratulations on finishing it!

I agree - the art is very good. But the rest is below standard of Daedalic.

I’m sad to hear that Falcon Age was not good. I was eyeing it and hoped it would be a great experience for bird lovers.

Aquilla

Yea… It looked like they have quite good idea for bird mechanics, and after some development they suddenly realised “wait - we need a game around it!”. So they designed the rest of the game during one coffee break. The Falconeer will be released soon. It’s a different genre, but maybe it will be better.
