Challenge me! Monthly Edition
(15.11.2021 - 14.12.2021)
previous
November, the month with a lot of rain, fog and bad weather. Better stay at home. Get some games done and maybe improve your knowledge? Try to pick at least one game matching the theme. As a reminder, those are the theme tags for November
  • trivia games,
  • puzzle games,
  • games with an Education tag,
  • games with a school/university setting and/or featuring a teacher/student as the main character.

For Pickers. Just copy paste and complete the data :)

* [GAME#1](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#1-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#1-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#2](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#2-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#2-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#3](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#3-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#3-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#4](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#4-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#4-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#5](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#5-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#5-HLTBTIME

  • Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
  • If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
  • Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.
  • Same for Early Access (I know some people want to wait for release).
  • When you finish one (or more) of the games picked for you, please post an update by replying to your picker's comment.
  • If the game has achievements, you can link to either the Steam or Astats page corresponding to your progress.
  • If the game doesn't have achievements, please post a screenshot showing your completion.
  • Finally, if you have completed all the games that were assigned to you but want another go at it, feel free to post another application.
  • You can pick for/challenge up to 2 fellow assassins, please refrain to pick more so everybody who wants get a chance at it.
  • You can pick for anybody who has applied and hasn't been given a list yet, unless they specified otherwise (see next point). It is recommended to signal with a "reserved" comment that you're currently picking for that person. This way it'll avoid the situation where you spend time picking games just to come back to somebody's comment 2 minutes prior.
  • Please use the following criteria when picking a list for somebody.
  • Pick exactly 5 games
  • Length-wise: at least 2 short games (under 10h to beat) and 2 medium (under 15-20h). You can use HLTB to check the time, or more conveniently the Enhanced Steam browser extension (it shows the HLTB time directly on the game's steam page). That rule can be overridden by the bottom (i.e. pick 5 short games) but not the other way around, as not everybody has the same time to dedicate to gaming.
  • Pick two SG wins unless the person specified SG wins only, in which case pick only in the applicant's SG wins list.
  • Quality-wise: at least 3 of the 5 games should have a positive (or above) rating. You can use this site to quickly sort games in a user's library by ratings (thanks to JaffaCaffa for the suggestion).
  • Please, respect the applicant's choice regarding multiplayer-only and Early access games, as well as other requests (exclusion of certain genre etc.).
  • Please use the code below to post your comment, it's already formatted, you just have to copy/paste & complete the data.

Do I have to participate in this event?
No, this is an event to help you reduce your backlog. If you already have a plan and don't want anyone to pick games for you, you're free to ignore it.

What happens if I don’t participate in the event?
Absolutely nothing.

What happens if I play all the games picked for me this month?
Still nothing. (You might get a shiny profile badge at some later date. And you can come back for another batch.)

What if I don’t have time to play 5 games?
Don’t worry, one is enough, we’re just asking the pickers to select 5 to give the player a little choice.

One of the game picked for me won’t run on my computer for X or Y reason, what do I do?
If this happens, please notify the picker by replying his comment and ask them to pick a replacement. If the original picker don’t give you an answer within 24h, don’t panic, just leave a comment and we’ll pick one for you. Meanwhile, you could try one of the other picked games if you haven't played them all yet.

I played all 5 games that were picked for me and I want more!
If you have completed all 5 games and reported your completion to the original comment, you can make a new request for another list.

When picking for other people, can I only pick “never played” games?
Not necessarily, you can also pick games that seem to have been abandoned but haven’t been categorized as “won’t play”. No beaten or completed games, or games being currently played obviously.

Why are there so many rules for picking the games? I can’t be bothered!
We’re trying to make this enjoyable for everyone so if you decide to pick games for others, please read and follow the rules. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the pickers too, but if it’s bothering you too much, remember you don’t need to pick games for others to join the challenge.

I’m new here, can I join the challenge?
Yes of course (and welcome to BLAEO). Please just be sure to have your games sorted by progress before signing up for the challenge, to make it easier for your picker.

mrstasilo

Im in!
I have some untouched SG wins I’d like to concentrate on this time. So pick few SG wins or/and more short games from my regular backlog if possible.

Moony1986

Let me know if anything should be switched. Hope you have a lot of fun with those games :)

mrstasilo

What a great picks, thanks!

Zelrune

A small note: Crown of Leaves is unfinished, the third and final chapter is being worked on but the developers are only two people so it might take a bit.

mrstasilo

Thanks for info :)

mrstasilo

As Zelrune mentioned, The Crown of Leaves is unfinished + I have only first episode quite similar situation hah?. So can you change it pls?

Moony1986

Ah I didn’t realize :D I switched it for Rusty Lake Hotel, which has a similar HLTB time :)

mrstasilo

Thanks!

mrstasilo

Book of Demons and Rusty Lake Hotel are beaten. Didn’t played roguelike deckbuilders before so can’t compare it with anything, but it’s definitely good game. As for Rusty Lake Hotel… It’s kinda weird, but I like it xd

Moony1986

Great that you liked them. Rusty Lake definitely looks like the good kind of weird :D

mrstasilo

Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You beaten. I think this is the first time I got same playtime as HLTB. Good game, mb I’ll play it more to 100% if had time.

Moony1986

I’m in again too :) Please challenge me

mrstasilo
  • BioShock Infinite - HLTB Time: 11.5h - I see you played first one so I can’t skip this masterpiece. It fits this and next month PAGYWOSG. Also, Burial at Sea DLCs are great, check them if you want ofc, they’re connected with BioShock 1.
  • Effie - HLTB Time: 4.5h - Didn’t played this one, but it looks good. Also fits this and next month PAGYWOSG.
  • Epistory - Typing Chronicles - HLTB Time: 5.5h - Education tag
  • Youropa - HLTB Time: 5.5h - Also fits this and next month PAGYWOSG + puzzle tag.
  • MO:Astray - HLTB Time: 7.5h - Same about PAGYWOSG.
Thanks for list, it helped a lot. Let me know if you want change any games. Good luck!
Moony1986

Thanks a lot for the selection! :)

Could you please switch Resident Evil for something else? I just realized that it is cut into four episodes and the main game I own only contains one episode (meh!) so it doesn’t make much sense to play it now.

Yep I know that I have quite a lot of garbage hidden treasures in my game list :D Therefore I tried to pick some not so hidden treasures for the short list ;)

mrstasilo

Sure, changed!

Moony1986

Nice thanks :)

Moony1986

So I finally finished my first game from the list yesterday.

It was Youropa and it’s a really cool game :)

mrstasilo

GJ! I won it yesterday btw so gonna play it too in few months :)

Moony1986

And I’m done with all =)

Really great picks, I enjoyed them all! :)

mrstasilo

Woah, great job! You’re welcome :)

droha

Please, challenge me!

Tristar

reserved finished :3

Rochard 6h
Qbeh-1: The Atlas Cube 8h
Kingdom: Classic 10h
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance 16h
Outcast - Second Contact 18h

Picked a few of outside the list if you don’t mind, but can switch them of course. ^^

Kingdom one of my favorites, Supreme Commander best RTS with its large scale.
Outcast a remake of a favorite game, hope it holds up. For Rochard I remember a greatly impressive scene in the beginning and good gameplay.

droha

Thank you!
It’s really good picks!=)

droha

Qbeh-1: The Atlas Cube are beaten.
It was really long and hard !=)

I’d like to be challenged! (I finally got some completed last time)

Preferably from this list although anything is fine!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

  • Zero Escape: The Nonary Games
    - HLTB Time: Astat and my own beat time 43 hours. This is two games that fit the theme…Puzzles and I really liked them.
  • Yomawari: Night Alone - HLTB Time: Astats says 5.5hrs I took 6.5…Cute horror and fits the school theme ever so slightly and almost fits the puzzle portion :3
  • Smile For Me - HLTB Time: Astats says 4.6 and I’m at 4hrs…Was hard for me to get into initially but after I did something about it clicked. Its one of the most fun I’ve had this year. Vaguely hits the puzzle portion.
  • NieR:Automata - HLTB Time: Astats says the story is 26 hours…Considering I 100% the game at 55.3hrs and they said 55.6hrs for completion thats fair. You have this! You should play it! Its really fun.
  • Graveyard Keeper - HLTB Time: Astats says the story is 40hrs and I have 54…honestly scratches a certain kind of itch (the one stardew makes) I played this quite a bit this year and then suddenly stopped when I beat it.

I’ve played all these and enjoyed them. Please feel free to ask for a swap.

stef

Oooo good picks. I obviously wont be able to get to them all due to length, but I’m excited to try all of these. thanks 😁

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I figured if I pick one really long one you might not get around to it but if I pick a bunch you’ll have to pick at least one of them :3

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I’m failing my POP and have no motivation to play games right now…so challenge me! :3

Treat unfinished the same as unplayed and please don’t pick anything that’s been challenged before (challenge me list)

stef
  • TSIOQUE - HLTB Time: 3 HRS. fits the theme!

  • Night in the Woods HLTB Time: 9-12 HRS. I haven’t played this one yet but I want too and I’ve heard great things.

  • The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters - HLTB Time: 8-10 HRS. I’m halfway through this one myself and it’s not bad.

  • West of Loathing - HLTB Time: 7 - 18 HRS (theres a lot to click on and read). I watched a playthrough of this and it’s hilarious.

  • Feather of Praying - HLTB Time: 3 HRS. I picked this since it’s the last game on your “games nice people have given me” list! It’s very short and it looks nice.

I picked from different sections and not just from your POP list, so if you need me to change anything just let me know!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Thank you for the picks!
Can C7 of Higurashi be swapped for something else? Its a dumb reasoning but Listu I was already challenged to play it a few months ago and it breaks the way I see how I’ve done each challenge me…

stef

No problem!

I switched it with “TSIOQUE” since it still fits the theme. If you that doesn’t work or you need another change let me know!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Thank you!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Been doing badly with this as well…games are hard.
Anyways finally finished night in the woods this week. It is quite a bit different that it initial seems but just as - if not better than - people mention. The dialogue and very very real sounding problems and mental illness and stuff is all phenomenal. If you ever have the time I 100% recommend it.

West of loathing is funny and I’m enjoying it. My only problem is that I hate pokemon style turn-based combat and Its hard to get around that in it. Hoping to finish it in the next few days but I also started Arkham asylum the other day so who knows.

Thanks again for picking!

Wintermute

Hello, I would like to be challenged.
If possible, please, use this specific list, thanks.

Tristar

reserved finished :3

Invisible, Inc. 7h
Max Payne 8h
Resonance 8h
Detroit: Become Human 12h
The Talos Principle 17h

Can never not picked Talos ^^ just so well made and a fantastic soundtrack.
Max Payne, very cool bullet-time gameplay mechanic, and Detroit where choices actually matter and also with great music.

A bit sad to see Kingdom (Classic/New Lands), one of my favorites, to be marked red as won’t-play, also similar with Death Stranding. Can you share what it was with those two?

One thing I noticed that you have have a biig amount of games started up/played (but not finished) and barely any with no time clocked in. That’s very unusual and I’ve never come across similar.

Wintermute

Hello T.!
First of all, please, have my thanks for having taken your time to help me choose a few possible courses for my gaming options :-)
As for your picks, let me say I am glad to try out Max Payne after 20 years I played it for the first time and that I am glad you have picked Resonance, one of the few Wadjet Eye games I was still missing to play!

As for your specific questions, I will try to point out that I usually try to launch and play every single game for at least a couple of minutes. Take it as a habit I got from the times of my gaming youth, where I wanted to at least try and take a look of everything (!!) I had under my hands, before deciding which games I should concentrate on :-) Only after having taken a look (even very quick!) of my games, I think a bit and then choose the game I will spend my next hours with.

Finally, I am sorry about Kingdom, unfortunately lately I am in the mood of playing not so many strategy games and even if I choose them, it’s usually a TBS one. Nothing against Kingdom or similar ones, maybe it’s just this “moment” in my life I “need” to play other kind of games (as you many notice I have very few RTS or similar games in my library).

Finally, as for Death Stranding, I feel I should devote myself to the game with a patience I am lately lacking of. I have marked it red, as you have said, but it’s a temporary choice. I had only a few hours clocked in and I feel the game demanded an attention I was not ready to give when I started playing it. I am sure things will change.

In the meanwhile, thanks once more for the choices!
