Blue's score

I played Ethan carter with veck for the monthly theme and I have to say it was a great motivation to finally actually play through it…I’ve had it installed for over a year now and I’m only now getting around to playing it.
As far as a game goes its super pretty. The gameplay is not very pronounced but thats fine because its a walking simulator. And I really like how some of the “puzzles” were set up I really liked the two houses where you have to memorize the rooms and go and switch them around in the other house
I guess my problem is with how slow you moved. Especially as you have to backtrack to get some achievements and going back to the start of the game to get stuff I missed had me feel like I was walking through molasses
(and considering how holding shift was considered “run” and I held it the entire time I played it could be even slower…)
I feel like saying while I’m like its okay it and was a bit boring I also found myself playing through it for basically 5 hours straight and suddenly I was done and I realized I had played through the whole thing in one sitting

Blue's score:

This novel is…actually good?
Like I’ve seen two reviews here saying they didn’t like it but I actually found it interesting…I heard it was heavy in info dumping stuff about the stock markets but… it wasn’t that bad? Maybe because I went into it with no expectation maybe cause I’m in engineering and actually like math but I found it interesting and thats all I can say about it.
I wouldn’t discount any other reviews you see cause keep in mind I’m an engineering major and recognize a bunch of terms from my economics class but if you’re into that sort of thing it was a nice read and I honestly liked it.
It also has a light romance I liked but that wasn’t fully explored in the first novel but I assume that will be further explored in the next two.
Hopefully

I just want to say the formatting for this post was sooooooo messed up...I don't have much time before class and even though I copy pasted from my last update everything I set up months and months ago wasn't working...things wern't aligning right or switching to every character being a new line so I just floated everything left and the width and height attributes were not working so I added it in inline css and ended up sizing every single image instead of using html and aaaaaaaaaaaaaa if anyone looks at the formatting of this you'll see just how messed up some of it is. The score even dissapears when you make the window smaller aaaaaaaaaa

Also I totally gave up on finding good background images and ended up making my own/just useing stuff that looks super messy and makes it harder to read...sigh

  1. I laughed so fucking hard at the background for World End Economica being a money spreadsheet
  2. Blue, I have to confess something to you. I have to. I must.
I didn’t like the Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Largely, after I played it, I was left with mostly the same reaction you had - ‘oh, it was okay’ - except the ending was such an asspull, any permutation of ‘it was a dream/hallucination’ is always and will always be soooo duuuuumb but when I kept seeing people praise it and say it’s one of the best walking simulators it just rankled me more and more. I keep quiet about it bc I’m not here to pee in anyone’s lemonade, so I’m confessing it to you.

Good work on completing not just a game for the monthly challenge, but for two games off your ABC plan as well!

ish if I start seeing people praise it as a masterpiece I think I’ll start getting the same reaction as you.

also tfw I couldn’t find any pictures online on stocks so I just opened excel and randomly generated a wall of numbers :3

tsupertsundere

BLUE that makes it so much fucking better, how organically grown and cultivated. free-range. A chef kiss worthy addition. I see it and I deeply appreciate it

I’m so glad I’m reading this from you, because I also didn’t like Vanishing of Ethan Carter xD
My friend has it so we recently played together and we got about 2 hours in before I was bored to tears. The gameplay is not explained well at the beginning and I already knew about the ending before finishing. It is very pretty, but I’m glad I’m not alone :)

tsupertsundere

Yeah, like, the ‘put together what happened’ mechanic was pretty okay, and some of the goofy easer-eggy secrets like the flying saucer were funny but overall? Forreal? Better than Gone Home or Firewatch? Hard disagree.

misterhaan

i think i saw the beginning of vanishing of ethan carter in a youtube video and was interested, but now it’s sounding not as good as i was hoping. oh well, i’ll still check it out.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

at the end of the day its still pretty so even if the gameplay is kinda lacking its a good chance to admire the scenery/take some nice screenshots

Garcias

Welp now I’m interested in World End Economica, I’m going into the last semester of engineering and just had Economics last semester so it does seems I’ll like it ahah

:sob: university is tough am I right…

Garcias

it sure is my friend :’(

stef

I agree with Ethan Carter, but applaud you for beating it in one sitting anyway. Congrats on your progess so far!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

did you get through it?
what did you think?

stef

I didn’t actually get through it but my friend and I played about halfway through on his account. It’s very very beautiful but I was very bored. Walking Simulators don’t always bore me but this one just didn’t have enough to hold my attention. It didn’t help that the gameplay elements weren’t really explained in the game and I had to look it up. We didn’t get to the end, but the ending was spoiled for me a long time ago so that wasn’t an issue.

I don’t think it’s a bad game at all, but I am curious as to why it’s so revered as one of the greatest walking simulators ever.

I like the game better for just walking around and enjoying the scenery. It’d probably be very calming on VR
