Trick & Treat

Halloween and Horror Literary Ties

From last month...obviously. I mainly played this because of the cute pumpkin costume sprite. There are a couple of different endings and you can unlock a new costume and some other things. Sometimes when you walk up to something you're shown art made for the game rather than RPG Maker assets -- I liked that because it helped make some things actually look a little creepy. Ít's pleasant enough for a free Halloween game, I guess. It has several Poe references, which is why I put the Literary Ties tag.

Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders

Detectives! Mystery! Murder! England, My Lionheart French Voice Acting Literary Ties Won on SteamGifts

This was a SG win and a game I was challenged to play in the Play or Pay group in October. As with most things, nothing beats the book. I feel like this game mostly stayed faithful to the story, even using direct quotes on a regular basis, but it wasn't as faithful to the characters. That said, I did like the colorful, cartoony graphics--that's a lot better to see than crappy attempts at realistic graphics in some point and clicks. I liked the "little grey cells" questions that ask you to present evidence to answer them, though a couple of them weren't clear.

Corpse Party

Detectives! Mystery! Murder! Favorites Ghosts Good Reads Halloween and Horror Japan Noticeably Good Music

A Challenge Me! game I meant to play for last month's theme, but it's also perfect for this month's Impuse Buys theme. According to my purchase history, I had $10 in Steam wallet cash during 2017's summer sale and chose this. I really liked it. It is like a lot of weird Japanese and translation humor, gore, and a bit of a Battle Royale-type feel. It's also super weird because the main characters have crappy, ugly art, but at some point in the game random side characters start showing up with better drawing. I'm aware there is a remake of this with a bunch of full screen drawings, and I may watch a Let's Play of that if I ever get nostalgic.

In Corpse Party, dead people fret over the shame of their bowels emptying upon death.

The rambling death descriptions cracked me up due to the absurdity. At one point I noticed a red blotch of what I thought was blood on a player character sprite's butt. I didn't remember where it was supposed to have come from or it being mentioned, so I reasoned it was possibly just a ribbon. After a few hours of walking around like that, the guy who had been walking around with her finally pointed out she had blood on her butt. An interesting aspect of the story is seeing events in different ways, since you play as several different characters. The different endings can also give various insights into the characters and events.

It's hard to play a game with Japanese names in a school setting without thinking of Persona. My console stuff has all been boxed up since I started gaming on the PC, but Persona is one of the biggest things I'm missing now.

I thought Will their beaten games go up by 1%, when never played dropped by 1%?.

Because it’s not always how it works, e.g. on my BLAEO profile I have 101% games. You count better than BLAEO algorithm :D
