October 2020

I recently made myself a new list on BLAEO, titled "My Actual Backlog". I did this because there are several games on my backlog which I can't play for various reasons. Some are strictly co-op, and some don't run on my laptop (since I don't have a gaming PC). This list has the games I'm able to run and play on my own. According to it, I'm running a bit low on games, so this month I actually ended up buying a few!

Half-Life 2

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition

11.5 hours
30 of 57 achievements

I'm aware the "Definitive Edition" is different than the original edition - however, since I've now beaten the game once, I highly doubt that I'll play the original, so I'm marking the original as "beaten" as well.

Half-Life 2
let's beat some unfinished games #6

ABZÛ

3.1 hours
5 of 12 achievements

I beat it for my "let's beat some unfinished games" challenge. I have a lot of half-played games which I'm not very interested in and I'll try to force myself through them, often with the help of walkthroughs, to reduce the number of games on my "unfinished" list on BLAEO.

Half-Life 2

Move 'n' Bloom

6.3 hours
11 of 15 achievements

Fun puzzle game where you try to match the blocks of plants. There are a few levels which are hard, and one level extremely hard (for me, at least). Also one of the achievements seems to be bugged, but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon. I'll eventually go back and play it from the scratch to attempt "No Spoilers" achievement. For now, I'm leaving the game as it is.

I enjoyed it a lot and I'm glad I got it. If it looks like something you might enjoy, giving it a try won't hurt! It's pretty cheap too.

Half-Life 2

Cats Organized Neatly

2.9 hours
20 of 20 achievements

Staxel recently got an update and it added 5 achievements so I'm back to playing it. Also apparently I missed a few friendship quests when I first played it, so I'm probably going to be doing those as well. I missed them because I got all achievements without befriending every villager.
I still haven't finished playing Life is Strange... It started out really fun but the turn the story took is making me hesitant in playing it. Too heavy, when life outside is already a bit bleak. I was hoping to finish it in October ... but maybe November will be better.

I'm running low on games I can actually play, so I ended up buying some to play during September.

    Purchases:

  • Move 'n' Bloom
  • Cats Organized Neatly
  • Dead Cells

That progress bar difference in a year is amazing! Good work :D I didn’t realise you had put that much time into Ori this month either!

aonrao

Yeah, the difference a year makes is insane!
It probably helped that I stopped buying so much haha.

Ori was a lot of fun - I think I’ll go back and replay some parts (and get some more achievements).

Jaded

Yeah you don’t really buy much so lots of progress made :D

Hmm you recommend Ori ? If it pops up in a bundle I might get it then!

aonrao

It was fun! But you won’t get 100% achievements probably.

Traqie

Sooo did you enjoy ABZU?
And have fun with Dead Cells, if it’s as good as people say it’s gonna be another time sink like Hollow Knight :)

aonrao

Honestly? No. When I tried playing ABZU previously, I was so bored that I marked it as “won’t play”. But since I’m running low on games right now, I thought I’ll give it a second chance. The game itself is fine, but the controls are really annoying. I kept going to the wrong place or direction. It made it a very irritating game. If the controls were better (or I was better at them) I would’ve enjoyed it much more.

Dead Cells is actually not my kind of game. I’m not into roguelikes or roguelites. However I recently watched a YouTube gameplay and it looked really fun - so here I am. I’m highly doubtful of if I will ever get to finish the game but so far it’s been fun! I’m liking it a lot. I don’t mind the time sink, it’s actually nice to buy a game and then play it for a long time.

EvilBlackSheep

That backlog progress difference compared to last year is so impressive O_O (and your actual backlog is so small). Congrats!

I hope you end up liking Dead Cells, even though you said rogue likes are not much your thing. I think it’s one of the better ones, along with Hades. I’m pretty bad at it but I keep having fun putting more hours into it.

That cat puzzle game looks adorable.

aonrao

Yeah, one year makes such a big difference! Thanks :3 I tried not to buy many games this year, so that helped a lot.

I tried Dead Cells with my brother’s Steam library first and then liked it enough to purchase a copy! I highly doubt I’ll get to finish it, but I’m enjoying it so far. I’ve been hearing a lot about Hades… if I ever beat Dead Cells I might check that one out. (I’m also pretty bad at it lol).

EvilBlackSheep

Hades and Dead Cells, even though they’re both excellent rogue likes are quite different, which is a good thing as it brings variety :3 Have fun with Dead Cells for now, there is a lot to unlock/explore.

aonrao

Yeah variety is good! And I will. Dead Cells will probably keep me occupied on that end for a long time. Especially since I keep dying at the same parts over and over again haha.

polsdestrella

I saw you playing When The Past Was Around and it seemed so cute, that I added it to my wishlist! Cats organized neatly also sounds like a game I’d like. And Forager, of course! (even if now I’m into Graveyard Keeper that is absorving my time, but is also on my wishlist). So many games, so little time.

aonrao

One thing about Forager: some of the achievements are extremely grindy (but others are easy to get). The game was fun until the grinding started lol.
Both When The Past Was Around and Cats Organized Neatly are really cute and I’m glad I played them! :3
