[ game wise I'm only playing dead cells. :3 ]

I haven’t read much in years and years.
I grew out of it a decade or so ago and while I’ve read a few novels since then (I read the Game of Thrones series a few years ago and read as much Brandon Sanderson as I could whenever a new novel came out cause I have to keep on top of my favorite author) I’ve mostly just read webtoons or VN and not nearly with the same sort of compulsion as when I was a kid.

So I recently went on a spree of obsessively adding all the books I remember reading as a kid to my goodreads account…so much time trying to find stuff and I’ve probably missed loads but I think I found most of the important books. 🡆goodreads account🡄

and I want to try reading more again.

but I’m quickly finding my tastes have changed…I reread dirk gently’s holistic detective agency and while it was okay I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I did years ago…and I’ve dropped the two other books I was given for Christmas (Whiplash River and Possible Side Effects)

does anyone have any book recommendations? I’m excited to read Oathbringer as soon as I can but other than that I don’t know what my tastes are any more.

I’m going to try and read a book every month this year (screwed up the challenge on goodreads by reading a few short stories but thats my plan)

adil

I don’t really read books sadly so I can’t help you with that. However, The God of Highschool is a really solid Webtoon! It makes me sad to see you didn’t like it. Also your rating seem so harsh, even the Railgun gets a 2 stars xD

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I read the first 40 something chapters of the god of high school a year ago and then my phone broke and LINE decided not to save progress between phones…and I found I just didn’t care to find my place again…

2 stars on goodreads says “it was okay” so I’ve set alot of things I dont have much opinion or intrest on (3 is “liked it”)
the railgun manga isn’t as detailed/good as the index LN nor as amazingly put together as the railgun anime (but I did rate book 4/sisters arc 4/5)

do you have any Webtoon reccomendations?
Tog is amazing and I’ve started reading Kubera and like it so far.
(also read Dice, the gamer, solo leveling, Nobeless, unOrdinary, Flow, Sweet Home etc)

adil

Ah yeah, make sense to give only 2 stars if you weren’t that interested in them.

And I read a bunch of Webtoon yeah, with God of Highschool being one of my favourite xD it has its ups and downs, and the start wasn’t that great. But it evolved way past the highschool settings pretty fast. As said, to me it’s a solid action Webtoon. Anyway, here’s a short list of the daily updated one, with series written in italic bold meaning they are my personal favourites:

Monday: Tower of God (great story, especially where it is right now!), Kubera (the story is really really complicated, it’s still a great one if it manages to catch your attention)
Tuesday: Hardcore Leveling Warrior (an other action one, pretty cool to follow though main char is a bit of an ass), Odd Girl Out (story of an unpopular girl with an inferiority complex, hard to start but it really shines after Nari starts to change)
Wednesday: Nothing too great, I personally dropped Dice, should I pick it back up?
Thursday: Mage & Demon Queen (a light yuri comedy), unOrdinary (one of my favourite, though lately developments are really slow… Still it’s a great series)
Friday: The God of High School (as said already, top action webtoon! The current fight is just epic once again! It’s sometimes a bit crazy to swallow but I find it very enjoyable overall)
Saturday: GOSU (was my top webtoon of all times most likely, unfortunately author’s health is bad and the series is stopped sadly. Not sure if the author will ever get better…)
Sunday: Seed (a series about a bot application teaming up with a girl, looks rather promising so far)

And the already finished one: Always Human / HIVE / Salty Studio / Magical 12th Graders / SIDEKICKS / The Stories of Those around Me / Witch Hunt / Aura from Another Planet / ShootAround / Super Secret / Nano List
These are all the series I enjoyed reading. Some more than others but all around, they all delivered and I enjoyed them all in the end. Hopefully one or two will catch your eyes too!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

so I’ve read dice up till 200.
I can’t say it gets any better but it also doesn’t get worse.

episode 3 of TOG season 3 I don’t fight people weaker than me has me all aboard the bam hype train

and sending recommendations back at you.

if you like comedy’s Elf & Warrior (wednesday) is pretty good although its jokes are getting less frequent/funny.

Rebirth has been promising and unlike a bunch of other new series it hasn’t stopped updating after [blank] chapters

and if you haven’t tried it Sweet Home is pretty good. (by the same author as bastard)

adil

About ToG, yeah it makes all that climbing worth it! By the way, that quote is at the end of ep6 of s3! Last week episode.

I already added Flow to my reading backlog. And I now added Elf & Warrior since I don’t really have anything to read on Wednesday when I wake up xD
Same goes for Rebirth, I might take a look at it as well. Thanks!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Aaaa i confused myself cause i went on vacation last week and read 2 chapters at once and got everything mixed up in my head

the Traveler

Dat book banner brought me in, well done. I love seeing book posts, even if this is a gaming group. Both have stories to tell, right?

Peeped your old books, I don’t think we’re really into the same stuff sadly. Did you follow the GoT TV series along with the books? If so, you might be interested in reading other popular shows/movies that were based on novels. That’s a pretty good start and you’ll have a bit of an idea of what you’re in for.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

so I haven’t watched game of thrones unstil yesterday when my girlfriend got really excited at the new season and I’ve been made to watch the newest 3 episodes…I’m kinda lost and confused but its okay…like I know most of the characters by name but not by thire tv face and its been a few years since I last read them so I’m kinda iffy on the plot especially as it deviates from the books.

the Traveler

Oh man, GoT is just not something to randomly jump in and watch late in the series – but you’ve read the books so you know how complex the whole IP is!

So I found this list on goodreads Authors similar to Brandon Sanderson. I’m not a serial reader of high fantasy myself, unfortunately, but I did read the Wrinkle in Time series as a kid and loved it and I know Robert Jordan has a cult following.

EvilBlackSheep

I’ve been reading a lot again in the past months and I’m so glad I went back to it. It had been a few years that I hadn’t read as much. I mostly am reading detective/crime or horror books lately, and comics (trying to catch up with THE OTHER backlog). But feel free to tell me what genre you’re looking for and i’ll try my best if I have any suggestions. (Otherwise feel free to have a look at my goodreads, that’s how i find most of my what to read next ideas, looking at other people’s lists and reads. I’ve sent you an invite. BTW princu has an account there too if you wanna add him).

Blue Ϟ Lightning

See I still like Brandon Sanderson/cosmer stuff so Id say I’m into high/epic fantasy.
When I was younger I really liked humorous novels (discworld/myth adventures etc) but I’m not sure anymore…if I didn’t like dirk gently any more would I still like the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy? discworld?

honestly its probably just that comics have rotted my brain and I can’t focus on a novel like I could years and years ago.

EvilBlackSheep

We mostly talked this over on discord but to add to what I already rec’d you, I thought about this series this morning too: Thursday Next. It’s a mix between fantasy, mystery and humour, so you might like it (even if I stand by the other recs first like christopher moore).

Arbiter Libera

Thank god I’m not the only weirdo occasionally talking about books here and there. :D

Honestly, going with epic high fantasy in the true sense of the phrase, you cannot go wrong with Malazan. Only drawback being that Gardens of the Moon is a really, really, really rough intro and most people don’t make it past that first book considering it doesn’t read like a first book in a ten-book series and there’s no gentle easing into the setting or events. Not to mention it makes a whole lot more sense in re-reading when you can be amazed by sheer amount of foreshadowing and thought in general. Then the series pulls a rug from under you and it’s alternating between brand new casts for couple of books. Basically, it takes a while for what is seemingly the “main narrative” to establish itself and you can really tell Erikson’s first love was setting building.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

so I actually Own the crippled god…I’ve never read it and its sitting in a box somewhere.
I’ll try and start the series though thanks!
