AUGUST MONTHLY UPDATE 1

So the July Monthly was quite a success for me, helping me to complete 8 games! Now for the August monthly, I also have quite a nice backlog to pick from. I already played and completed Time Mysteries 2 and Time Mysteries 3, since I felt like playing some HOGs!

Apart from that I’ve started Life is Strange. I only play when I know I have at least 3 hours of undisturbed gaming time (basically meaning my wife isn’t home for at least 3 hours ;-)), so I’ve played and completed up to Episode 3 so far. Love it very much so far, so hoping I’ll have an opportunity to finish it soon! :-)

  • Time Mysteries 2: The Ancient Spectres
Time Mysteries 2: The Ancient Spectres

    7 hours playtime

    11 of 11 achievements

  • Time Mysteries 3: The Final Enigma
Time Mysteries 3: The Final Enigma

    4 hours playtime

    11 of 11 achievements

  • Life Is Strange
    Life Is Strange

    15 hours playtime

    36 of 60 achievements

WHAT’S NEXT?

Would love to have your help in selecting the other games to play this month! This is the list of games that are on my backlog that fit the monthly theme and which I want to pick from:

SG Wins:

  • D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die (Looks like fun, but pretty hard to 100% I think?)
  • Doctor Who: The Adventure Games

Others:

  • Finish The Talos Principle (already played much of this 1½ years ago, but I got nauseous from playing, so I’ve yet to finish it)
  • Bioshock Infinite DLC’s (absolutely loved the main game and bought the DLC’s a while ago but haven’t played it yet)
  • Gemini: Heroes Reborn
  • No Time To Explain Remastered
  • Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today
  • Edna & Harvey: The Breakout
  • Costume Quest 2

If you guys have any strong opinions for or against some of these options, please let me know! :-)

Daerphen

I can recommend D4 and Talos.
D4 took me about 4-7 hours to complete the main story without thinking of all the achievements. I guess it takes another play through to get all the rest. Most of them are for collecting all the things in the scenes. Shouldn’t be too difficult with a guide. The perfect quicktime events are harder to get, but they are not dynamic, so it can be practiced. But be aware that the story won’t finish after both episodes. They haven’t released the next season

I think Talos is one of the best puzzle games on steam. Too bad you got nauseous from the game. I am not sure if you can increase the FOV? But you might prevent that when playing in Third-Person. Although I think it is harder to jump and navigate precise with that view.

Starlynk

Yeah I read your review/post about D4, saying it was very similar to Telltale games so that’s definitely got me interested :-) And I played a bit with settings in Talos, but it didn’t help much. They also added some extra settings later after launch because other people had the same issues I had, but it still didn’t work for me. So basically I can only play for 30 minutes/1 hour max and then I have to stop. Really annoying, since this is literally the only game where I have this issue and I really enjoyed the gameplay!

Anyway, thanks for the feedback! :-) I’ll keep it in mind!

You really need to play Burial at Sea.

The parser for the lists markdown is a little stupid (maybe I can fix that?), you need a blank line before the first item … So

this
* won't work

but this

* will

this

  • won’t work

but this

  • will
Starlynk

Ahh that explains! I edited my post and it works now! Thanks :-)

Seconding Talos!
Simulation sickness sucks though. You could try playing it in small bursts; complete one puzzle, go do something else.
I find just standing up and going outside for 5minutes or so helps out a tad but I know that doesn’t work for everyone. :(

Dead Synchronicity should also be a good one. It is a cliffhanger ending but it’s p&c and fairly short. :)

Starlynk

Thanks for the input! :-) Yeah, as I wrote in reply to Daerphen, the only way I can play it is play 30 min-1 hour and then go do something else for a while.. I tried walking around for a couple of minutes as well, but it didn’t help.. Really sucks cause it’s a good game!

Heard some good things about Dead Synchronicity as well, and easy to 100% always helps ;-) I think I should be able to get that in sometime this month!

EvilBlackSheep

I definitely recommend Dead Synchronicity, played it last week and it was really great!! (Oh and the burial at sea DLC)

Starlynk

Thanks for your input! Hoping to have time to play both of those this month :-)

uguleley

So you loved playing Bioshock Infinite? Then Burial at Sea is a no-brainer. :) Have you played earlier Bioshock games?

Starlynk

I played the first Bioshock when it came out, but never played 2. Maybe some day! :-) Which one is the best in your opinion?

EvilBlackSheep

Dead synchronicity was short-ish. I finished it in 6h with paused times in the middle, so i’d say 5h more or less total. I played it all between friday night and saturday afternoon.

uguleley

It’s not easy to pick a favourite, because they’re each to their own kind. And because I played them in an odd order - got introduced to the series with Infinite, continued with the first one, then later finished the Burial at Sea episodes and ended with Bioshock 2. I’d say the first playthrough of Infinite will be my favourite, because I actually didn’t know much about the series (other than recognizing the name), got it free in while subscribed to PSN+ and it totally took me by surprise.

TopDeer

I also recommend what others recommended - Talos, D4 and Dead Synchronicity =)
D4 is very good, but achieving 100% would be pretty tedious - I just gave up on collecting 100000 credits =(
Dead Synchronicity is pleasant and relatively easy (there are no really illogical puzzles/item combinations).

Dandey

saw somewhere that it can be gotten easier via the white dude clover mini-games :D

Starlynk

Thanks for the recommendations! Started playing Dead Synchronicity yesterday, so should probably finish it tonight or tomorrow :-)

After that, probably first Talos, unless I sick up too much and then D4

nellyneko

D4 is great, even with the cliffhanger ending. You’ll need at least 2 playthroughs for 100%, more to get enough credits and alcohol … I think I took a lot longer than I should have, so substract about 5 hours from my playtime there for idling, and another 2-3 for being stupid … the Quicktime events were actually really easy with a controller, once I noticed that the bottom preview actually tells you which move is coming next. Might be more difficult with mouse & keyboard though.

Starlynk

Yeah, I don’t have a controller, but going to give it a shot anyway! Thanks for the help in deciding! :-D
