16th Week of 2021

Introduction

Hello ^^ ! Last week was pretty hard for me in terms of school and other works, I had an exam almost every day, but it came to an end, and that matters only :D I still had some time to play games, I completed my second HOG of my life and I hit 1k games on Steam. Yaay :D

Pretty solid walking simulator with puzzle & horror elements. I got into the game blindly, judging by the store page I thought this is gonna be a simple “walk from A point to B, solve this then that” style game but oh boy, I was really wrong!

The first thing I noticed was the heavy atmosphere. Then as I made my first steps I immediately got a nice little jumpscare, and that is when I realised that this is a horror game! I like horrors, it’s not that but why don’t they show as a tag that this is horror? Anyways I enjoyed the game quite a lot. Personally I like Tesla’s work and I also like alternative-history games, so the story was top-notch for me! But the game have it’s flaws too….

The biggest issue for me was the bad optimization. I have gone into game development a bit in the recent years, so I know that the fact that this game was made only by 6 or 7 people is truly amazing, but I feel like they wanted to put AAA element’s into their game but in the end the forgot the most important: doesn’t matter if your game is good or bad looking, if there are scenes where it will run only by 20 FPS then how should I enjoy it ???
This happened here too: there was a particular chase sequence where I had to lower the settings from the highest to the lowest to even get 30 FPS! That’s ridiculous !

Sorry about this little rant, I’m a bit overwhelmed of this, I was super pissed off that I had to try that stage 3 times….
Other than this the other biggest issue for me was the animation’s quality. I’ll say it straight: they are terrible.

Overall a nice little game with an interesting story, but from technical aspects, please dev fix your game!!

As I mentioned this was my second HOG game I ever played and after playing it I came to the conclusion: from now every week I have to play over one BECAUSE THESE ARE COOL!!!

I loved this because of many things, but I’ll start with the most important: it was made by Hungarian devs :D!! I always love seeking games made by people from my country, there are quite a lot games you wouldn’t even think was made by us :-D !
Sorry, back to the game, I sadly like to speak too much about things….

The story of this game is magnificent, we play as a Detective who travels back in the time to find one of his lost colleagues. The time setting is 1920th years and the place is Italy.
As we investigate and progress in the story we will face many Gods and other people from tales, we will learn a lot about Roman history, particularly about the god named Vulcan.
The HOG scenes and the minigames were really fun, I think I really like the aspect that the game rewards my logic skills, because if we take an FPS for example it will heavily be based on our skill rather than our thinking (of course there are games that are out of this boundary, I’m just speaking of FPS games as a collective).
The only negative for me was the voice acting, I felt like they are speaking out of a box… The characters were a bit cliché-ish for me too, but overall they were fine.

In the end, I’m happy that I found this game, because it’s my starting point of my HOG journey :-D !!

  • Really cool puzzle game, if you have an hour try it out :-D The mechanism itself isn’t really complicate it is just a simple block sliding game (if this thing exists xD).

  • Don't Let Go!

  • I remember playing this in ~ 2017 maybe when I got a VR headset for 1 day :D
This game is what people 100 years ago called a pioneer. This was made when we could count the amount of VR games released on 1 hand xD (bit too dramatic but you get the point).

The mechanism is simple: you have to sit in your chair and hold your fingers on two buttons until the game is over. Things will start happening with the time, spiders will get into your brain, a velociraptor will appear from nowhere, you know just casual things.

The game looks a bit bad, the mechanism is too simple - but I cannot give a bad review for this game :-D

Aside from this, I have played I Expect You To Die, I have 1 more level to beat so this will go into this week’s games :D
Also, I have played Beat Saber on my Quest 2 and…. I’m addicted, that’s all. (8 hours spent, I bought it on Friday)…..

What have I acquired during the week

I don’t even want to list this anymore. According to my “BoughtBundles” sheet I bought 25 bundles this week… 25 CAN YOU IMAGINE ?!?!?!?!

I wish to all of you a nice and productive week, as always ^^!

Cece09

What you sure you right, were there even that many bundles?

SharkY

Hehe here is the point: I found a member on SteamTrades who had past indiegala bundles and I might bought some from him…. xD

Cece09

omg its definitely blaeo, 2 years ago i had like 300 games but then I joined blaeo and now look at me at almost 1300. Blaeo is here to help us beat them yet it cursed us to snowball into more games

SharkY

You are 100% right, the thing is that since I joined this site I have beaten more games since I started my steam profile xD It isn’t much I know, but it is so good to see a “visual representation” of your progress :D

ninglor03

Outch. 25? How many games are that exactly? O.O
No, don’t tell me, I don’t wanna know.

Good luck on beating them. And good job on the HOG xD

SharkY

This question is just like when you ask a women about their age, it is too personal and I didn’t even have my willpower to count it :’)))
Thank you very much, most of them are visual novels and I really like this genre lately :D

ninglor03

Ah. Mhm. Well I’m not that sensitive about my age, but I guess I get what you mean :3
Oh yeeees, Visual Novels can be sweet and nice <3
Enjoy! \o/

ShannonApple

25 bundles? Oh dear God. lol. Good luck!

Okay, I am probably just as bad, just didn’t buy them all at once. XD

SharkY

Thank you very much, yes sadly I’m awful, but when I saw that someone has tons of IndieGala leftovers, most of them had just 1 in stock… How in earth could I leave it there xD !?!

ShannonApple

Haha! True that!

Elvidur

I am doing quite good reducing the amount of purchases, but I know the temptation… Be brave and strong for next time!!

SharkY

Thank you comrade, I’ll try to fight the desire, but seeing Fanatical hosting 5 bundles this week…. It will be hard xD

Elvidur

Most fanatical bundles are shit anyway, delete that website from your navigator! :D. Their overall business since they changed name from BundleStars is quite shady… cough * Loot box random bundles *Cough. Oh gods, on tuesday we have new humble choice, I’m praying for another bad month so I don’t add to the backlog xDDD

SharkY

Thanks for the advice, sadly I wasn’t a BundleStars customer so I don’t really know how it was back there, but as far as I see Fanatical and Humble both dropped the quality over the years :/

Btw have you seen the May Choice headliners :D ? What do you think?

Elvidur

Damn I did not see that before. I think it’s a great selection of headliners, but probably not for me. I did not play previous Metro games due to them being probably too scary for me, althought I’d like to have Darksiders: Genesis. I think I’ll wait till the full list is released and then decide. Decisions, decisions…

SharkY

I agree, I buy the Choice for indies to be honest (searching back in my library reveals I have only started maybe 3 or 4 headliners only D:) :D
Not bad tho, I look forward for Hellpoint !!

Elvidur

Damnit, now there is a new hidden object bundle in fanatical ;_;

Trent

Hey there– thanks for the report.
How did the save system (or lack thereof) work for you? I understand it only saves at the end of chapters, plus autosaves in case you die (but not in case you exit the game). Was this ever a problem for you? How long were your game sessions / how long did a chapter take you? Do you tend to play fast or smell the roses?
This game looks good, but the lack of save system and my backlog is keeping me from picking it up.

SharkY

Hey :)
The chapters in this game are hugely disorganized! The biggest problem is what you have mentioned, that it doesn’t matter how long the chapter is, if you exit halfway you loose all progress and the collected things too :/ I learned this the hard way, sadly I had to start a new fresh save because of this….

The chapters length is another problem. The first some chapters took me with collectibles about 25 minutes per chapter. After that there were chapters that took 5 minutes and chapter that took 45 mins…. I usually prefer to play only a short session at once (25-30 mins) so this was a huge negative for me, that I had to stay till end, I didn’t really enjoyed some chapter because of this…
Yes, the game looks really stunning, but this and the lack of optimalization is why it only got mixed reviews on Steam :I !
Thank you for your comment ^^
