Monthly Update #3: July
This month I was off sick for a week and a half so I've had a lot more time to game than I normally do. Yay to backlog progress!
I got through a lot of my SG Wins this month too :) (Then won some more..shh)
Here is my attempt at playing around with Tabs.. Haven't used HTML in years, so there was an attempt.
Plus, screenshots. Because why not ;)
Overall Progress
Completed
Similar to lines, however nearly every spot is set and is less flexible. Could be slightly frustrating, as there is no undo button. Every mistake you then had to redo the level.
Has cool bright pink achievement letters though? :P
I really enjoyed this game. I got it in a bundle and wasn't expecting much from it, but it was great!. I only played the single player but it also has a local co-op option. Game based on an Inuit Legend, collectable insights (videos) throughout the game discussing Inuit culture. Was fascinating.
Pros:
Character design was great, and even with no talking I really felt for the characters every time I managed to kill them :( The fox was adorable. The enemies also felt threatening which was good. The game automatically saves, but saved at each point you passed an obstacle which was great.
Cons:
Had issues with some sections using mouse/keyboard. Recommend controller or at least changing one of the action keys for the fox. Playing single player, you rely a little bit on the other character getting places without your help. Frequently one of them managed to jump to their death/get squashed/eaten etc etc.
Overall I recommend it!
A fun puzzle game. Pretty short - I managed to finish all 100 puzzles in 50 minutes.
….Ok worst game. This took a few minutes to complete and you just kind of ran into a wall. Thought it was a bug but looking at the discussion forum, no… that's the end of the game lol.
So the rest of the time after 10 minutes, is me idling for cards…. :/
No one ever buy this haha
Beaten
This was really fun. Definitely not the kind of game I would've originally bought for myself and thought I'd like, but 35 hours later…
I was attempting to 100% it, however I have to replay most of the story in normal mode to get some timed achievements. I managed to get the hard mode play through with no characters dying done though!
Story wise, I liked it, although I felt the decisions made by the characters were stupid, but in the context believable.
Music was also good.
Definitely recommend it.

Ohh you won The Sexy Brutale from sg. :D I really enjoyed the game and hope you like it~
It looks really cool! I must say I have a fair few SG wins I’m pretty excited for!
I agree with aonrao, great formatting of your post. Nothing against the generic standard posts, but it’s nice to see something else from time to time :)
What game is the second screenshot of? It has a nice art style
Yay I’m glad it kind of worked then!
The 2nd one in the July tab is Children of Zodiarcs.
2 screenshots of Children of Zodiarcs, 2 of Staxel, 2 of My Time at Portia and 1 of Never Alone!
Thanks for the answer! Looks very nice, albeit not really like my cup of tea.
The addition of screenshots definitely adds some flavour to the reviews :)
Haha yeah I’m not usually a turn-based fan, but I entered this giveaway on a whim… I actually really enjoyed it! I really recommend it. I tend to like more casual style games, such as puzzles, building/farming games.
Yeah I took so many screenshots this month, I thought it was a waste to not use some. Plus, my storage one seemed to fit that last tab pretty well. ;)
True, that’s a very fitting last screenshot !
Nice use of the tabs, I like your new formatting :)
And of course nice progress. Did you like hidden paws? If so I’ve been told the sequel is even better. I really loved Children of Zodiarcs, I’m glad to read somebody else enjoyed it too. :)
(Lots of nice new backlog additions too, I hope you enjoy them, there’s great stuff among those)
Haha I’m getting there. I’ll probably keep changing it until I find what works best :P
Yes I did! I preferred finding the cats though because you got audio clues to where they were. Trying to find the balls of yarn in the Christmas levels was frustrating. I have the second on my wish list :)
Yes, I wouldn’t have even picked Children of Zodiarcs for myself, so I’m really glad It was one of my first wins! I really enjoyed it. I just have to go back and play through it on normal mode to get some of the limited round achievements now..
Yes, only a few backlog editions ;) I’ve put down to play Orwell and Hellblade so far for August’s Play a game you won on steamgifts, and depending on how I go I’ll add more.
Took me a while to figure out mine too, then when it’s done you can always save some sort of ‘template’ of code to fill up each time you wanna post.
The clues in Hidden Paws were kind of useless to be honest. I remember struggling to find the few last of them but overall was a nice relaxing game.
Good luck with the backlog fight in august :) I still haven’t picked what i’ll play for this month’s Play a game you won on SG, I’ll have to look into that.
That’s exactly what I did this time :) Hopefully I can fix it up a bit each month to get it to where I want it.
Yeah those clues were awful. It was alright in earlier levels, but later ones not so much. And clues such as a Penguin in a map full of penguins was hilarious.
We’ll see how I go! Depends on what other games I manage to get.. I’ve already gotten a couple of games through trades today so >.>
I’ll at least complete one SG win though. ;)
Looking at your games….potentially…
Project Highrise, Big Pharma (resource management)
Darksiders, Witcher 2 (Open world)
Maybe? :P
I like how the tabs worked out with your post! Also, I’m still super envious of your Staxel & My Time at Portia playtime! =P
It looks like you’ve had a good gaming month =)
Thanks! It took a bit of effort trying to remember how to do it haha.
Definitely recommend both games if you like casual types of games.
On the other hand, I’m jealous of you with Slime Rancher and Astroneer! :D
But yeah overall I got a fair bit done. The “Play a game you won Steamgifts’ monthly theme really helped.
Here’s this months! https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Eh2Uk/august-is-a-play-a-game-you-won-on-steamgifts-month-fridays-for-future
I’ve already put in for Orwell and Hellblade so I’ll see how I go this month.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy Slime Rancher a lot! Because farming games!!
I’m trying to understand how to play Astroneer, but it’s not going well lol. So far my gameplay is me, going around, collecting some material and building storage to store it as I have no idea how to advance in the game XD I even did the tutorial, but it wasn’t that helpful (didn’t explain what I’m supposed to do in the game). It’s fun though.
The tabs–I’ve tried doing them with the link you’ve gave me a while ago, but the code I wrote didn’t work on BLAEO so I kind of gave up…
I made a small list of games I can play for this month’s challenge but not sure which one should I pick honestly: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Eh2Uk/august-is-a-play-a-game-you-won-on-steamgifts-month-fridays-for-future#UEcVGFR
I’ve been trying to trade for Slime Rancher for a little while. I probably should have bought it when it was on special on Humblebundle >.> Oh well.
You’ll have to tell me what you think of Astroneer after you have played a bit - I’m interested to see what you think!
I tend to do the shorter games first, by checking How Long to Beat. Makes me feel like I’m progressing better :) I have a fair few SG wins that are long games, so I’ll try the small ones and then start one of the larger games.
I’m sure SR will go on sale in the future. It was 50% off on Steam during the summer sale if I’m not wrong, so don’t worry about it, you’ll get more chances in the future! I got the game on one of those sales back in december. And it’s not like you don’t have games to play while waiting for it =D
Sure, I’ll tell you after I feel like I have an understanding of the game. If all fails, I can always ask my brother since he has… checks Steam… 35 hours in it!
I also do that… that’s why my July games are all 1-5 hours long! But to be fair to me, most of my July was spent playing Hollow Knight, which isn’t a short game at all. XD Have you played it? I don’t remember.
Yeaaah I know I definitely don’t need it at the moment haha.
Cool! I think looking at steam Astroneer is something I’d enjoy.
No I haven’t played Hollow Knight! It’s another game I occasionally make offers for and get rejected each time :P
You should definitely play Hollow Knight!! 10/10, great game.
I’ll get there.. one day!
