Main Quest #45 - 19 June 2019

Moonlighter

Moonlighter

8/10
about 17 hours playtime
19 of 57 achievements (34%)

A friend recommended me this game so when I saw it on the Monthly (together with Hellblade) I knew I had to get it. I wasn’t hoping to be as fun as it was, and although it can be a little repetitive to some, I really enjoyed my time with it. Also, although the soundtrack is pretty good, this game was perfect to put on a podcast and just grind dungeons, kill some mobs and sell some loot. I’ve recently started to listen to one or two, and I’ve also been enjoying them quite a bit. If you have any recommendations on any game suitable for that or podcasts to listen to, I’ll gladly take them.
This is also the 100th game I’ve beaten on Steam, completing one of my 2019 goals in just a little under 6 months. Let’s see how far I can go!

Congrats on 100 beaten games! \o/

Garcias

Thank you! When I joined BLAEO (almost 3 years ago) I remember reaching 100 games on steam. At the beginning of 2019, I had 71 games finished and 300 games total. Now that I’ve reached 100 games finished I’m already at 341 games. The backlog never ends!

ninglor03

Oh god, yes! I know! It’s just constantly growing! No matter how many games you beat, there are ALWAYS MORE! scream
Is this the perfect moment to panic? xD

Garcias

So true! I don’t think it’s worth to panic, just play the games you feel like and eventually you’ll make some progress. There are times when you’ll be able to play a lot of games because you feel like it but there are other times when you won’t play a game in weeks. It’s normal! Just do whatever you feel like.

ninglor03

Well, atm I’m pretty happy. I’ve completed more games then I have not played. If I add the beaten games to it… it looks even better :)
So yeah, the panicking was not thaaaat serious ;)

Garcias

Well yeah, apparently you’re not that bad! I’m only at 100 finished but still have 200 in the backlog… When I achieve 200 finished I’ll probably still have 150 or 200 to finish too so we’ll see how it goes!

ninglor03

260 in backlog, waiting patiently. Although there are a few games in it I considered as endless and they will be a pain in the butt to get to a lvl I’m happy with.
Yeah, it’ll never end. But on that’s something good as well, isn’t it? Knowing there is always a game waiting for you? Imagine there would be a point where all this stopped. I think I would be pretty sad if there was… nothing waiting for me anymore! ;(
But we can do this! One game at a time - or if you like playing more then one at a time, that’s fine as well :D

Garcias

That point of view can either be good or bad: there’s always something to look forward to but there’s no end in sight.

But you’re correct: one (or more) game(s) at a time is the way to go!

Jaded

Oooh I might enjoy playing this. I got the Humble Bundle for this month, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep Moonlighter yet!
Congratulations on hitting 100! Now it’s time to 100% them all :P

Garcias

I’d recommend checking a gameplay video on youtube to see if you enjoy it, I sure did!

I’m not a big fan of 100% a game if it’s just pure grinding for collectibles/achievements/repetitive quests. With this big of a backlog, I’d rather use the time I have to beat more games and live more stories :)

Jaded

I ended up activating it.. played 3 hours already! Just with this game I can already see I most likely won’t be getting all the achievements.
Haha yeah that’s understandable! I go for those grinding ones if I really enjoy the game, or if it’s short. Otherwise I move on :)

Garcias

Glad to know you’re enjoying it! Yeah, there are a lot of achievements in Moonlighter.
As long as you do it because you’re enjoying your time with it, I see nothing wrong with that, but at the moment it starts to feel as a task/job just move on. This is supposed to be a fun hobby after all!

Vito

Congratulations on 100 games!
Thanks for the review, I have/had no idea what to expect from this game :)

Garcias

Thank you! Glad to be of help.

Zeruel

Congrats on the hundred!

Moonlighter looks like a load of fun to me as well. I’m tempted to buy the monthly, but I also want to get Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and I don’t think I can afford both of them.

Hellblade looks exciting as well, which is why all 3 are wishlisted.

Glad to hear that Moonlighter’s getting some love since some reviews I’ve seen are quite critical.

Garcias

Thank you so much!
You can try to find a good deal in the Steam Group “Group Buys”. Usually, people sell their bundle leftovers there at a fair price, so maybe you could be lucky and get a good deal while having enough money to also get Vampire.
Apparently, Moonlighter wasn’t that well received at launch (maybe too much hype? pros of being a patient gamer, not being influenced by hype) but I had great fun with its mechanics.

Zeruel

I appreciate referring to the group. Gonna take a look there! :D

Jaded

Hmm I’m enjoying Moonlighter (I activated it after seeing this post :P), but if your a completionist for achievements it’s pretty daunting.
I’d personally go for the Humble Bundle as it’s two games that look good + mystery games that you could trade if you don’t like them. Then wait for a sale for Vampire!

Zeruel

I’m not too worried about achievements (unlike what you might think from what my posts are called :D), but I’ll definitely try and 100% a game if they seem moderately doable or if I really like the game.

I might take your advice for the purchases, yeah. The real issue here is just that Vampire will most likely be 5€ on sale, but the Monthly’s 11€ :D

It’s hard to decide. While it’s frustrating, it’s still great to have the desire to play all these games.

Arbiter Libera

Have you played Recettear? If you have, how would you compare it to Moonlighter considering they both tackle pretty much the same formula?

This is also the 100th game I’ve beaten on Steam, completing one of my 2019 goals in just a little under 6 months. Let’s see how far I can go!

Garcias

I’ve never played Recettear nor heard of it before. Sorry!

And thank you!
