What a nicely-formatted update! Kudos to you! I like the tabs and “spoiler-free insight” thing.
What did you think of “Neverending Nightmares?” I’ll add Samantha Browne to my list of free-to-play games I’d like to play sometime.
I think I remember you from Steamgifts. Glad to see you’re still kicking! And gaming! :3

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Hey there, fellow cat! Thank you for the compliment, I did put a lot of time in it… sigh

Well, I have an in-depth, kind of angry, half-funny, surprisingly positive review of it here.

My long story short of it is that: “Western horror swims in a pool if its own pee, and Neverending Nightmares, in all its fantastic visuals, potential and unease, is no exception; it strips itself of its pants and decides to add some pee to the poo pile.” I’m kind of controversial when it comes to that game. I wanted to give NN a negative review, but the effort put into it and the beauty and the details in it barely saved it from being torn to shreds by this particular cat.

Yes, do put Samantha on your list! It’s very short and sweet.

And yess, I was quite popular on SG haha. But it was consuming so much of my life, I guess I just had to lay off that drug. I hope to come back some day, though! And I’ll die kickin’, baby. (:

Trent

That is…quite the review. I’m not sure if I should play the game or bow my head in shame for being western. :P

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Woah, thank you! It means a lot. I struggle a bunch to write reviews.

Well, it’s your choice, but a piece of advice: if you want a fantastic, short, gorgeous horror game, I recommend Year Walk. If you haven’t played it yet, of course. I’d only recommend NN if you really think the artwork can compensate for the downsides I pointed out, and if you really like horror!

LastM

Refunct seems like a great game. I’ve got another game in my wishlist, so thanks for the post (and review)!
Ps: One of the most well done post I’ve ever seen around here. //

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Hey Last! Thanks for leaving a comment.

If you like platformers, you’ll like Refunct for sure! At least, I hope you will. Also, you’re more than welcome. (:

PS: Check out TopDeer and Akantha and be Amazed.

LastM

I’m already stealing borrowing akantha’s stuff. TopDeer’s color bar looks awesome too. I’ll use them on a future post. Thanks!

Tumalu

I loved the Talos Principle. Hope you don’t get super frustrated with using your brain, because that game will make your brain hurt.
I’m surprised I loved it so much to be honest, I hate using my brain.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Hi Tumalu! Using one’s brain can indeed be taxing, but as someone who’s endured the best and the worse from 90’s point-n-clicks, I’m adept to that ancient and long forgotten technique. I’m having fun with Talos! But, sadly, I’m already stuck! Haha it’d be sad if it weren’t so funny.

You should give The Turing Test a look, I found that it did take some simple puzzle ideas from Talos, and it’s super fun!

Tumalu

Thanks for your suggestion Coraline! :)

Talos really gives your head a spin, but boy, is it fun.
I can see why you left SteamGifts, you’re replying to every comment in your post.
Hope you’re not refreshing the page every 10 minutes to check for new replies. ;)

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

You’re welcome!

I hate leaving people hanging haha and no, I’d never do that. I’m doing several things at the same time, some more boring than others, and BLAEO is a good respite.

Also I’m commenting on other people’s BLAEO posts as well.

Tumalu

I hear ya. Just another workday for me, which makes it seem like “I’m always here” :P
Good to hear from you once in a while though, I’m sure all of Steam Gifts misses you dearly.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

That’s… such a nice thing for you to say. Thank you. <3

metyGAME

Well now I have a couple more additions to my wishlist! Good going on all the game playing and I love your tabs!

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Aw, thankies! They do require some effort, but feel free to look at the code and use them if you’d like!

Forsaken

I personally loved the mechanics of The Turing Test. Especially the last chapter was such a blast to pay. Abzu is my “feel-good-game-of-the-century” ^^ Enjoyed reading your post and congratulations on beating all those awesome games :D

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Most of the mechanics I really like too! I was just soooo upset on how hard it is to run fast enough while playing on a controller. Which can be a huge issue on some levels. I’m at chapter 5 out of 7 atm!

Thanks a bunch for actually reading, commenting AND for complimenting me on it. I wanted to have written more but boi do these posts take some time to make!

Forsaken

I always use a keyboard+mouse so I never even knew there was a problem with that. Sorry to hear that it’s not making the game as fun for you as it was for me :(

Yea the coding takes too long. I don’t know anything regarding it so it took me ages to figure out 1-2 things to make my posts look easy on the eyes but there is no way I can post the way I truly want cause I can’t deal with that amount of codes. I wish I could simplify my profile description with buttons and tabs with a good background like I saw on some people’s profiles. I tried for hours to work on the codes I copied, but I gave up :(

By the way may I please ask how challenging the platforming is in Refunct? I am interested in the game but I hate platformers. I’m also an achievement hunter so I don’t know if I can 100% it with my lack of platforming skills.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Yeah, I had to switch to m&k in those sections to pass them. But it’s OK, most of the game is very well done so that makes up for it.

Do you like how my profile looks? If you do, I could try doing something like that for you. Since I already have the template of what I did on my profile, it’d be really easy (for me) to do the same for you. Makes me sad that you can’t have the profile that you want, even more so because coding does take some getting used to.

I suck at platformers. I’m so so bad at them I can’t even. So yeah, I completely understand where you’re coming from and it’s a pleasure to tell you that Refunct isn’t only fun and well done, it’s also very welcoming for platform turds like us. It’s also easy to get 100%, if I do say so myself! If you get stuck, PM me. There’s one tiny trick that took me FOREVER OK, some 20 minutes to discover that is needed for 100%. I just don’t want to spoil it for you before you actually try.

Forsaken

Thank you so much for all the help you offered, it truly means a lot :D I wanted my profile to look like Douglas’ but with buttons instead of tabs. He gave me the code he used but I tried to change the background and remove the avatar and add my own text/headlines. No matter how much I worked at it, I ruined the code even more. One particular text kept showing up on all tabs instead of the one I assigned it under. Simply put, I failed after all the time I spent trying to figure it out and gave up. Again thanks a lot for the offer but don’t waste your time with this :)

I’m super happy to hear that about Refunct :) I’m definitely putting that game on my radar :P

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Woah that’s one hell of a profile! Thanks for linking that dude to me. Alright, I wish you good luck with that! I bet it’ll all be worth a lot more once you get what you want yourself. Nothing like working hard and getting the stuff we worked hard for. (;

uguleley

Good progress! I like how you’ve formatted the content in those tabs, the blank space especially gives the whole post a nice and clean look.

I’ve seen Refunct several times now both here and in Steam store, but I’m still on the fence mainly because the game is so short. Some reviews mention it can be finished in about 15 minutes, but that it’s still worth it. Somehow I feel that would be too short time for me to even get into it. :s

I also noticed that you mentioned in your comment that The Turing Test has some issues with the controller, can you elaborate more on that? Those sections that don’t work well with the controller, are they very long or do they require good keyboard & mouse skills? I’m so stuck to my old habits with my controller that I’m terrible with kb&m controls.

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Hello, fellow cat! Thank you so much for the compliment. My intention here was indeed to make the post as easy on the eyes as possible. Fewer words, more pics so they could have their space and speak for themselves.

I have no idea how could one beat Refunct in 15 minutes on a first try. Something like 30’ and 60’ is way more plausible for a first playthrough. Refunct is known for its speedrun community, so that could be where that number came from.

Ever since I bought the Steam Controller, I’ve also been edging away from my keyboard and mouse, so I understand your side. Well, there were two levels so far that caused me trouble. The problem is as follow: to run on The Turing Test, one needs to press the left joystick. Which is stupid, but wouldn’t be that much of a problem if the camera wasn’t so damn slow and there was no way to adjust it. Since, as I stated, I’m using the SC, I thought I’d be able to increase the sensibility on the camera control and move around more freely, but I was mistaken. When I tried the same level that was giving me a headache on the k&m, it was just so much easier.

I’m on the 5th segment out of 7 on the game as of now, and I only had to switch to k&m twice. Each segment has 10 levels. They are sorted as A01, A02, A03… B01, B02, B03 and so on. Each level takes around 1 hour to beat, each a bit longer than the last due to increase in difficulty. Some levels are REALLY QUICK, in less than 5 minutes you’ll easily be done. Some either involve more timing or more thinking or something and could take up to 20 minutes or a bit more. So if you consider I only had to switch to m&k twice, that’s only around 20 or so minutes of mild suffering.

It’s really not that much when you look at the big picture, and the big picture is certainly worthwhile.

Well, that’s odd. I’d imagine any first-person game released nowadays would have the option to adjust the camera sensitivity, but I guess not. But anyway, thanks for further explanation, that doesn’t sound too bad then! I’ve had an eye on this game for a while and I’m sure I’m going to grab it in a future sale. There’s always an extra seat in my backlog for a good first-person puzzle game. :)

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

I’m a dumb dumb who replied in the wrong place oops. Edited.

Garcias

Oh no, another one of Coraline’s post. I guess it’s update my wishlist time! help

Fantastic post design and progress too! ^-^ Any thoughts on Kingdom: New Lands? It looks so cute that I had to ask!

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Haha! You flatter me and my taste in games.

Thank you twice!

Well, I’ve only played 3 hours and it’s one of those games where you can’t tackle many of the game’s main mechanics in just 3 hours. Especially if you keep dying. help But, since you insist, I can give you my first impressions: the game is gorgeous. The pixel art is not only pure eye-candy but also blends well with the scenario and it works with the game. It’s one of those games that you start playing and you think “oh this is easy” and then you fucking die. It’s a roguelike, in case you didn’t now. So the objective is to reign over your meek little kingdom, fight nasty night-dwellers and run for the hills (or, rather, the vast open sea) first chance you get. In those 3 hours, I killed two monarchs and finally managed to get the third on a boat (ship!) and flee to the second island!… out of five. sigh

So yeah. It’s not a game for everyone, but if you can deal with losing everything once in a while, if you are ready to start anew, if you can deal with being surprised and if you love yourself some gorgeous artwork and pixel graphics, you’ll like this one. It’s the best sort of frustrating.

Garcias

Ahah thank you! I didn’t knew anything about the game (nor heard about it before you started playing it) but it does sound very interesting! I’ve never seen a Pirates of Caribbean movie… yet. I’m sorry for disappointing you ;__;

EvilBlackSheep

Congrats on the progress and the post layout <3!

Abzu and Inside seem absolutely gorgeous (one way darker than the other obviously). I got Orwell given by a friend on Xmas and I can’t wait to play it :3 I’m glad you’re liking Renowned Explorers, it’s one of the most fun games I’ve played last year (and I still have a bunch of content to explore)

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Thank you twice <3!

Both of them got nominated for awards regarding their artistic design! Which is great and well deserved, really. Orwell is fantastic! It requires a lot of reading, though, so brace yourself. And RE is so charming! I really like it.

Douglas

Ohh, Inside… it is indeed a beatiful game. I got soo happy when I saw about this game because I loved Limbo, so this one would be for sure another nice game too.
And The Turing Test got a place in my wishlist :D I love puzzle games so I hope I can play this one soon :3

Also, I liked your post style, and the free spoilers button :3 I started to use tabs this year as well I wanted to change my posts a long time ago, but was too lazy to deal with html stuff
Ahh and of course, great progress with your backlog… keep doing the good job :3 and hope I can see more of your posts soon :D

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Believe it or not, I was about to drop a note on your profile. I absolutely loved your profile design here on BLAEO and found out that we live in the same town in the process! How radical is that? Now, regarding what you actually said:

INSIDE is indeed gorgeous. It’s overwhelming, even. Glad you got The Turing Test in your WL. If you like Portal and Talos, you’ll def like this one. Plus, its Sci-fi elements are a treat in their own right.

Thank you for the compliments! Feel free to look at the code and use them yourself if you’d like. Just don’t forget that the buttons are very customizable and you should always strive to make them what suits YOU! Haha I’m always lazy so I take a long time to update my BLAEO stuff.

Thank you and I’ll try to pop more often here!

Douglas

Hehehe, I do believe it :3
I knew you are from here before because I checked your profile a long time ago, when you just joined the BLAEO don’t ask me why ‘cause I don’t remember :p But the website is in English, so well, let’s use it ;p I try to use in my case since I just know one or two things in English anyway, thank you for the compliments too :3 I wanted sooo much to change my profile, and had no idea what to do, so I kinda borrow stuff from many profiles and created my own profile :D I think is ok now. Your profile is also really nice :3

Weeell, my steam profile can say how much I like Portal :p - now about Talos, well, I own it but still need to play D: just need to find time to play.
Hehehe I know and I’ll probably take a look at the code and take notes of one or two things in my ‘html stuff’ text file.

Yeees, please… We all want to see more of your updates here! :3

Fnord

Hey, you seem to pop up everywhere these days :P I never noticed you were around here as well

capybara

☽ Coraline Castell ☾

Haha! What you mean by “everywhere”?

AND OH MY FLIP BABY CAPYBARAS. Thank you. They are majestic <3

Fnord

Well, two places, but close enough to everyone :P
