Hi everyone!
Just checking how things work around here, since I’m pretty new :)
Right now I don’t have much time to play and there’s usually a few days in between my sessions. So I thought, maybe you guys want to help me find a few games I can finish in less than five hours (possibly in a single session). I don’t care if the game has achievement, I just wanna play something and not be out of the loop next time I play again.

Here’s some games that fit the criteria which I already completed.

-Pretentious Game: It was okay-ish. Not worth the 5 bucks they charge for it, but ofc I got it from some bundle anyway. Took about 5 minutes to complete.

-the static speaks my name: About 9 minutes playtime. Strange experience and I can’t really say that I enjoyed it, but it’s free, so I won’t complain.

-The Plan: Took me 11 minutes. Kind of nice looking art style, but that’s pretty much all I remember. Also free.

-Plug & Play: 13 minutes. Weird Point n Click where you never really knkow what you are doing, but it’s oddly satisfying (in one way or another….)

-The Old Tree: Really short but beautiful Point n Click where you control a strange Alien Baby thing. If you like Samorost and similar games, you might enjoy this (I did). 13 minutes for me to complete.

-Fingerbones: 22 minutes short, also free. Again it was okay-ish, but I wouldn’t pay any money for it.

-Morphopolis: Now this one I really enjoyed! Strange and cryptic PnC/HOG with stunning arts and fun puzzles. 41 minutes for me.

-Dev Guy: Another okayish free game. Not incredibly bad, bot not really good either. About 1 hour to complete.

-Lume: Cute little PnC, more like a demo to it’s sequel (Lumino City). About 1 hour

-Retention: Nope. Just, nope. About 1 hour.

-Abandoned: Another cryptic PnC (Yeah, I love these!). Enjoyed it a lot. About 1 hour

-Windosill: Well, what can I say… PnC, very cryptic again, mostly just trial and error, but beautifully made. About 1 hour.

-Samorost 2: see above :P About 1 hour.

-Elementary My Dear Majesty!: Not a big fan of HOGs, but this one is 3D! :O Finished it in about 2 hours.

-My Bones: I lost 2 hours of my life playing this. Don’t be like me. Be smart.

-A Bird Story: Took me ~3 hours. Great story and even better music. Don’t let the RPG Maker skin fool you!

-Make it indie!: Did not like this one. Got the achievements and never touched it again. About 3 hours, Idling might be involved though :P

-Hexcells: 4 hours. Very challenging, but fun and well designed puzzle game.

-Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons: If you own a gamepad, just play it. Seriously. Just do it. 4 hours.

-Firewatch : Beautiful graphics, great story and incredibly well-written dialogues. Loved it. 4 hours

-Beater Spirit: 5 hours. It’s a fun idea (you create your own challenges and basically just repeat shit in order to buy gear from a “random store”.), but it gets incredibly grindy and frustrating after the first few runs.

-Beyond Gravity: This one again was very nice, and I had a lot of fun hunting down the achievements. It’s also incredibly easy :P ca. 5 hours.

-The Tiny Bang Story: 5 hours. Yes, it’s another artsy fartsy Pnc/HOG mix and ofc I liked it!

-Fire: I swear, this is the last PnC you’ll find in this list ;) about 5 hours.

-To The Moon: See A Bird Story, about 6 hours.

Beaten, but not completed:

-Emily is away: Interesting experience. Also free. about 1 hour to beat.

-Bulb Boy: Just finished this one recently, and well, it’s my kind of game :) 2 hours to beat.

-Grow Home: Interesting concept, had quite some fun with this. Beaten in ~2 hours.

-Pony Island: Can’t tell too much about this without spoiling. If you like puzzles and great narration, check it out. ~4 hours

-The Stanley Parable: A modern classic already. About 4 hours playtime, but I’m not sure if i can really say I beat the game…. There’s still a lot I haven’t seen ;)

So, what are your suggestions?

Edit: added “To The Moon” and games from “Beaten” list

Edit 2: Link to my list. Started off with Dropsy, will update soon :)

Yindy

Welcome, and good luck! :)
This might be a bit chaotic, but I’m about to get to bed, so bear with me. ;)

I’ve heard people are using howlongtobeat.com to figure out the shortest games/etc, though personally I hardly ever use that website.

To the moon, if you haven’t already: It’s not to long, and the music/story are awesome!

Ghostie

Seconding HowLongToBeat but also the function on Astats that sorts games by time to 100% and this guide are very useful for finding short games.

Also, welcome!

F/X

Thanks :) I completed To The Moon already, forgot to add it because it is logged with 6 hours playtime :p
I used howlongtobeat to find a few of these, but I feel like a lot of nice short games are going under (and idling is killing the purpose of playtime logging - yes, I’m guilty too) So maybe someone wants to share which short games they actually enjoyed and not just 100%ed for the sake of it ;)

Ghostie

Radiator 2 ? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Seems like you’re intersted in point and clicks so… Blackwell Games? They’re not too long.

F/X

Don’t own any of them yet, but they’re all on my wishlist, so yes, I think I would enjoy them :)

Edit: Didn’t even notice your first suggestion :D I saw that one in the Store a few days ago, and maybe I’ll give it a try… I have no idea what to expect though :D

Ghostie

Hmm okay, to be fair I don’t fancy going through a list of 2000+ games to give a recommendation. :D
Maybe make some smaller lists of games you’re interested in. ;)

But what the others have said seem pretty good.

F/X

Yeah I understand that, no problem :) Your suggestions are still appreciated and I will add them to my list (which is already pretty big) when I get my hands on them. For now, I sneak-peeked into Dropsy because it looked the most interesting, but once I’m done with that game, I’ll continue on to another one from the list

Ghostie

Ooh, I loved Dropsy. :)

Well from that list the ones that stand out to me are:

  • Dropsy (of course)
  • Evoland
  • Never Alone
  • Thomas Was Alone
  • Mind
  • Qora
  • Papo & Yo
  • Contrast
  • Gunpoint
  • Limbo

Those all being games I’ve played and enjoyed.

BlueDahlia

Lmao. Man, somehow I have seen those games linked before on SteamGifts, but I didn’t know they were on Steam itself now. XD

Ghostie

Never underestimate!

nellyneko

Okay, scrolling through your games, I see Dropsy (PnC) and Limbo (platformer? haven’t played it yet), which should both be about 6 hours each, possible in one sitting. I heard Cibele is really short (like, maybe 1 hour?) but not that great …. hm … the 3 main levels of 140 also don’t take that long, maybe 2 hours. I played The Samaritan Paradox (PnC) in two short sittings, I think, should also be somewhere around 6 hours.
Did you finish Dominique Pamplemousse? Another PnC, it’s really short as well, can’t be more than 2 hours.

more platformers: Schein (5-6 hours) and DLC Quest (2-3 hours?) are also on the shorter side :)

Also, welcome of course, and if you want to reply to someone directly (so they get notified), just click the little arrow next to “x minutes ago” under the post you’re replying to ;)

Thanks a lot, added all of them to my To-Do-List. The PnCs all look pretty nice, and I might play the Platformers when I’m in the mood for it again (Tried my luck at 10 Second Ninja again yesterday, shit got me frustrated and made me hate all platformers temoprarily :D).
Cibele has a lot of negative reviews, but I’m sure going to give it a try, I’m sure I’ve played worse already :D And maybe I’ll be the one in 100 who enjoys it :)

Lucky Thirteen

Hello, welcome to BLAEO!
I noticed that Charnel House Trilogy http://store.steampowered.com/app/288930 is on your “Never Played” list, it’s a very short but very nice point and click adventure. Can’t go wrong with that one! :)

F/X

Looks great, thanks :) Added to my To-Do-List

BlueDahlia

Man, I wish I could subscribe to this thread of yours F/X. :-) This is a good list, and I’m liking the response you’re getting in comments. Lol - Mainly I can only handle short games myself right now with the workload I have, so I can really see this list benefiting me as well. :D

F/X

Glad to see it also helped someone else :)

Also, if you’re interested here’s the direct link to my To-Do-List, you can check it for more inspiration :D

uguleley

I noticed you had Gone Home in never played -category, but you had logged 3 hours in-game. So I’m not sure if you’ve finished it yet, if you haven’t it’s worth checking out (unless you really don’t like walking simulator type of games..)

One really short game in your list is Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist, really worth at least one playthrough. It should take less than 30 minutes to finish. :)

Welcome and have fun gaming!

F/X

Yeah, those 3 hours come from idling :D

Put both of the games on my To Do List, thank you :)

Teakupo

Hi welcome! I play quite a bit of short games too. Here is some short games you have marked as Never Played that I’ve beaten:

Where is my Heart? is a cute looking puzzle game. It should take 2-4 hours to beat.
Thomas Was Alone you should definitely play. It’s about 3-4 hours and a really good game.
The Darkness II is a pretty cool FPS that takes around 6 hrs to beat if you don’t try for achievements.
Tengami is a unique adventure/puzzle game that is just beautiful. It should take about 1-2 hours.
Soul Gambler has a nice story and comic book art style. It should take 1 hour to beat and up to 4 or so if you want to see every ending.
Grey Cubes is just kinda like an arcade game. It should take about 3-5 hours to beat.
Garshasp: The Monster Slayer is a kinda mediocre hack and slash that should take about 3-4 hours to beat.
Caravanserail is a unique trading game but it’s really easy and you have to click A LOT. It should take about 1 hour to beat.
Contrast is a really good platformer. It should take about 3-4 hours to beat.
The 39 Steps is like a shorter (I think) version of a book. It should take around 4-5 hours.

F/X

Thank you! Added all of them and a few that I found here on my list.

Spitfyr

Limbo is short and pretty nice.
Dead Effect is nice shooter, that is easy to beat within 5 hours. I liked the game so much I played it a second time with another character and weapon right after I had beaten it.
