I've had my eyes on Mass Effect for a long time. I was unsure if it was going to be my thing. Well I had to wonder no more because Cece09 gifted me Mass Effect 1 and 2 for Christmas and now I absolutely had to try it. And whooo boy, that was such a wild ride.

Where do I begin? Let's start from the story. It was interesting from the very beginning and I was surprised to see so much lore. The ending was epic, too, and so satisfying. And the voice acting was so good! I liked my team so much I made a beeline for them every time I finished a mission, I just wanted to talk to them and hear what they have to say. Especially Wrex. Gameplay was pretty good too but just a bit clunky, quite difficult at first but once I got the hang of it and got better gear it was so easy, I had to bump up the difficulty or else things would get too boring.
What bothered me is that the dialogue choices are vague and tend to not be the same as what you end up saying. The bases you visit during side-quests are recycled too, so you see the same 3 bases or so through the entire game just with some furniture changes. The inventory was a pain to manage too, wasn't a fan of having to waste so much time converting my junk into omni-gel.

The gameplay maybe isn't that fleshed out, but the game makes up with everything else. Thank you again Cece for gifting this game, had so much fun with it :)
Can't wait to play the sequel. If I only had that new PC now… oh god the wait's gonna be unbearable oh GOSH

Unfinished games:

  • Haven’t played Hacknet much but hopefully I’ll have more time for it this month.
  • Obligatory CSD3 update, barely managed to finish this month’s territory just in time for the next one to come out soon.

Next up:

  • Final Fantasy VII

    0 hours playtime

    0 of 36 achievements

  • Deus Ex: Invisible War

    0.1 hours playtime

    no achievements

  • Starting this month with a bang by playing FF7! I watched sooooooooo many videos about the remake that I started going into the spoilery stuff so I had to stop myself by playing the original version instead.
  • I heard that Deus Ex Invisible War is an okay game, but a bad Deus Ex game. I want to see it for myself, especially since The Fall turned out for me to be not as bad as others have said.

BLAEO Post Saver userscript

Today I looked into making an userscript for BLAEO which would let you save your post automatically or manually while you’re writing it. It was harder than I thought, but it seems to work nicely :)

You can install the userscript here. Should work on both Chrome w/Tampermonkey and Firefox w/Greasemonkey and should not interfere with the Enhanced BLAEO userscript. Let me know if there any issues with it.

Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! Giveaway

I managed to win a CSD3 Steam key in a contest :) So I decided I’ll share it with you guys! The giveaway is available on SteamGifts to all members of BLAEO. If you’re in the BLAEO Steam group, you can join using the link below. If you’re not in the group, let me know below and I’ll add you to the whitelist so you can join. The giveaway lasts until May 6th, 8AM GMT+2 time.

Notes

I’m still working towards that new PC, fortunately I managed to get some money for it but it’s still not enough. I’ll definitely have to wait at least 1.5 months before I order one. In the meantime I can still use my good ol’ potato to play some older games. I even made a small list of games I want to play as soon as I get that new PC.

ninglor03

ME1 is SO awesome! Still I didn’t play it as much as 2 and 3. I’m pretty sure you’ll like them as well. You absolutely have something to look forward to with those :D

I started Deus Ex: Invisible War just today. Well, we’ll see, what we make of that one, right? xD

Have fun gaming!

kubikill

Hell yeah it is! Man if I get that PC I think I’ll just go straight to ME2. I want to play it sooooooo muuuuuuuch!!

Woah, now that’s a cool coincidence! I’m curious to hear what you’ll have to say about Deus Ex.

ninglor03

Let me know, whenever that happens, I’d gladly play a new round alongside you \o/

Currently: Why is it always switching to desktop when I chance locations? And WHY did it quit on my just now? Whats going on?!? :D

kubikill

Oh yeah the game does have some compatibility problems with modern Windows. It seems to be prone to crashes, too.

You should really install the Visible Upgrade mod, it fixes some issues, makes the game more stable and it even comes with a higher-res texture pack. It’s an installer, so its easy and fast to set up.

With the mod or not you should save frequently, too.

ninglor03

It feels as if I constantly save tbh :D

This should be invaluable. I’ve read quite a few stories about people losing their posts here it’s depressing.

Anyway I’m glad you liked ME1 ending. It’s easily the most heroic one and trilogy could have ended there. I still persist in thinking both 2 and 3 are better games, though. Shame about RPG elements becoming eroded over time.

kubikill

Hopefully those stories will be no more now that the script is a real thing.

In that case I am SOOO looking forward to the rest of the trilogy. Yeah, that’s too bad about those RPG elements, they help prevent the game from becoming a just another TPS. But then, if I got through Fallout 4 then I should have no problem with that, right?

Arbiter Libera

But then, if I got through Fallout 4 then I should have no problem with that, right?

Very likely. They’re nowhere near the departure comparable to what happened going from Fallout 3 to Fallout 4. Flip-side is also that classes are way more defined in ME2 and ME3 because their skillset is what it is aka you don’t deviate from it. Playing Vanguard in ME1 and then in ME2 is like designers added all the cool shit that was missing at first, for example.

Vito

The Mass Effect trilogy is probably the nearest thing to perfection I’ve ever played. I like them so much, that I ignore anything bad said about the games. I’ll admit though, that everything you point out is very valid criticism ;) I too could not wait to speak to all crew members after each mission, I think they really nailed the dialogues with the NPCs. I hope you enjoy the next part of the series as well, I for one definitely did.

Max Payne 2 is a nice game as well, haven’t played the other two you listed. But it seems you did have a little bit of time to play games after all, congratulations :)

Looking forward to your opinion on DE Invisible War!

kubikill

Thanks!! Still can’t believe how I managed to get some games done this month haha

I’ll write a review for Invisible War for sure. There are so many different reviews, I think it deserves one from me as well.

Cece09

Glad you enjoyed the game and hopefully the sequel is just as good. I don’t want to watch the remake until I’ve played ff7 myself despite knowing spoilers for it, but I’ve been excited for the remake since it was 100% confirmed. Just need it to be full and on pc

kubikill

I’m very excited for the remake as well, and from what I’ve seen it seems really good so far. The wait for the PC port and the whole thing is going to be long though… at least they’re not rushing to get the game out for a quick buck.

Kyrrelin

I am so happy to hear you liked Mass Effect! :D
Haha, yeah, managing my items was tiresome at least on my sixth playthrough… hmm, or more likely I just didn’t care anymore and just hunted for the best things. :D
If you enjoyed talking with your crew you will love the ME2 and ME3 as the crew is bigger and more talkative. XD Don’t forget to share with us when you start the next one so we can cheer for you!!! :)

Oh, I want to play FF7… one day. One day I will! X)

Congrats on winning the key! I miss last achievement on the first game, so I am not sure if it would be okay to enter for the third one as I have yet to play the second also, I am not in the group >.>. But we are really enjoying it very much, so much fun! Will probably start the second in a few months. ;)

kubikill

Oooooh if the crew’s going to get even better later on then I’ll certainly look forward to it. And I’ll make sure to let y’all know when I start the sequel!

I added you to the whitelist, so you can join the giveaway now! The game’s still in EA after all so it’s fine if you won’t play it right away.

Mskotor

Yep, it is better. You can talk with some characters from previous games, but in general you talk to new guys. Crew from base game is solid. Characters from DLCs are lacking a bit, but still are fine.

There are 5 new characters I just love. 2 returning. 2 DLC. 2 kinda average IMO. And Jacob. He’s like Kaidan. I talk to them, but they feel like “generic male option in video game” for me.

Plus squad mates you can’t take with you. 2 are solid. 1 is “filling the void”

And IMO squad interaction is better in ME 2 than ME 3.

kubikill

I agree about Kaidan, he did seem like an ordinary guy to me. Who are your favorite characters?

Mskotor

Won’t you consider to be a spoiler to know who you can recruit, before you end “first” mission on planet that allows it?

kubikill

Nah, you can tell me.

Mskotor

Samara - Asari justicar, teaches you about Asari culture and is interesting character in general. My default romance option before I found Liara in game
Grunt - he’s like lil Krogan baby. Only that he’s an adult. He doesn’t need luck, he has bullets
Mordin - Salarian scientist. You learn about salarians culture a bit, plus he’s a crazy doc. There is melody that may make you cry after you beat ME2 and ME3, that is connected to him.
Legion - well I will not write much about it, as it can be a big spoiler. Best to talk to it on your own, and learn about it’s race
Thane - Drell assasin. You learn about drell anatomy and their pact with hanars from him.

kubikill

If Grunt is similar to Wrex then I think we’ll get along just fine. Also, Drells? So that’s a new race, then? I wonder how they look like.

Mskotor

You can see them in cinematic trailer. No spoilers in this one, because launch trailer does contain some spoilers :D

Edit. Also my to-go team in ME2 was turian and krogan. Krogan for durability and incineration combo starter, and turian as my chain overload buddy.

Kyrrelin

Hmm, I don’t agree with that better squad interaction is in ME2.
I think they had more to say in ME3, you didn’t have to start whole conversation to find something new to talk about and add to it the interaction between themselves on Normandy or on missions which was just perfect, Shore leave is priceless!
At one point you will exhaust all talk topic, that’s for sure, but that happened in ME and in ME2.

But that’s just my opinion. ;)

Also not sure who do you mean as the squad mates you can’t take with you… only Joker comes to my mind. XD I take the others as a ship crew. ;)

Mskotor

Joker, Edi, Kelly (glorified fish feeder)

And I meant squad mates as someone you can talk to more than “hi”.

Also about squad interactions - squad in ME3 is made from people I already know. It is nice to see more banter between Garrus and Tali, but it’s less entertaining than learning background about Trell or Salarian race, or to hear their banter in the field.

Plus I dislike both characters from ME1 that may die and one of them carry over. One is part of paid DLC, so you may miss them entirely. Plus 4 already known characters. And Vega.
