Challenge me! Monthly Edition
(15.02.2019 - 15.03.2019)
previous
Day 45: Still fighing our backlog. Haha, guess that could be true for every day in every year ;)
Let's fight our backlog by asking others to pick 5 games to tackle first. Head to the comments and apply to the challenge.

For Pickers. Just copy paste and complete the data :)

* [GAME#1](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#1-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#1-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#2](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#2-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#2-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#3](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#3-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#3-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#4](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#4-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#4-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#5](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#5-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#5-HLTBTIME

  • Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
  • If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
  • Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.
  • Same for Early Access (I know some people want to wait for release).
  • When you finish one (or more) of the games picked for you, please post an update by replying to your picker's comment.
  • If the game has achievements, you can link to either the Steam or Astats page corresponding to your progress.
  • If the game doesn't have achievements, please post a screenshot showing your completion.
  • Finally, if you have completed all the games that were assigned to you but want another go at it, feel free to post another application.
  • You can pick for/challenge up to 2 fellow assassins, please refrain to pick more so everybody who wants get a chance at it.
  • You can pick for anybody who has applied and hasn't been given a list yet, unless they specified otherwise (see next point). It is recommended to signal with a "reserved" comment that you're currently picking for that person. This way it'll avoid the situation where you spend time picking games just to come back to somebody's comment 2 minutes prior.
  • Please use the following criteria when picking a list for somebody.
  • Pick exactly 5 games
  • Length-wise: at least 2 short games (under 10h to beat) and 2 medium (under 15-20h). You can use HLTB to check the time, or more conveniently the Enhanced Steam browser extension (it shows the HLTB time directly on the game's steam page). That rule can be overridden by the bottom (i.e. pick 5 short games) but not the other way around, as not everybody has the same time to dedicate to gaming.
  • Pick two SG wins unless the person specified SG wins only, in which case pick only in the applicant's SG wins list.
  • Quality-wise: at least 3 of the 5 games should have a positive (or above) rating. You can use this site to quickly sort games in a user's library by ratings (thanks to JaffaCaffa for the suggestion).
  • Please, respect the applicant's choice regarding multiplayer-only and Early access games, as well as other requests (exclusion of certain genre etc.).
  • Please use the code below to post your comment, it's already formatted, you just have to copy/paste & complete the data.

Do I have to participate in this event?
No, this is an event to help you reduce your backlog. If you already have a plan and don't want anyone to pick games for you, you're free to ignore it.

What happens if I don’t participate in the event?
Absolutely nothing.

What happens if I play all the games picked for me this month?
Still nothing. (You might get a shiny profile badge at some later date. And you can come back for another batch.)

What if I don’t have time to play 5 games?
Don’t worry, one is enough, we’re just asking the pickers to select 5 to give the player a little choice.

One of the game picked for me won’t run on my computer for X or Y reason, what do I do?
If this happens, please notify the picker by replying his comment and ask them to pick a replacement. If the original picker don’t give you an answer within 24h, don’t panic, just leave a comment and we’ll pick one for you. Meanwhile, you could try one of the other picked games if you haven't played them all yet.

I played all 5 games that were picked for me and I want more!
If you have completed all 5 games and reported your completion to the original comment, you can make a new request for another list.

When picking for other people, can I only pick “never played” games?
Not necessarily, you can also pick games that seem to have been abandoned but haven’t been categorized as “won’t play”. No beaten or completed games, or games being currently played obviously.

Why are there so many rules for picking the games? I can’t be bothered!
We’re trying to make this enjoyable for everyone so if you decide to pick games for others, please read and follow the rules. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the pickers too, but if it’s bothering you too much, remember you don’t need to pick games for others to join the challenge.

I’m new here, can I join the challenge?
Yes of course (and welcome to BLAEO). Please just be sure to have your games sorted by progress before signing up for the challenge, to make it easier for your picker.

Post here in case of issues

86maylin

One done last month, but since it’s longer than what I usually play, I’m still pretty proud of it~

This month I aim to finish some of the games I stopped mid-way, so please pick at least 2 from my “To be continued” list. (except for ABZU since my laptop can’t really run it)
As for unplayed games:
No multiplayer games.
Fine with early access.
No horror which overly uses jumpscares. I’m bad at horror so please pick light ones.
For easier picking, look at To Play and ABC plan lists. :3
As always, thanks for digging through my huge backlog. x3

Trilled Meow
  • Slime Rancher - HLTB Time: 14 1/2 hours. I don’t know anything about it, but it’s on your To Be Continued list.
  • Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition - HLTB Time: 12½ Hours. I also stopped this game somewhere near the end and don’t remember why. If you start it up again and see it was for a good reason, let me know and I’ll switch this.
  • 12 Labours of Hercules - HLTB Time: 6 hours. SG win and counts for the monthly theme.
  • The Silent Age - HLTB Time: 3 Hours. SG win, monthly theme, To Play list. I thought it had a decent time travel story.
  • Beyond Eyes - HLTB Time: 2 hours. On your To Play list. I played it and thought it was a decent little game.
86maylin

Thanks for picking! I most likely stopped Knights of Pen and Paper due to the amount of grinding it needs. I remember dying and reviving costing all of my money so I had to grind at the same location for a long time to get enough money for traveling. But I’ll try to get back to it if I can! At least make some progress if I can’t complete it. :P It’s always good to pick something back up after a while. Both of the unfinished games you picked are kinda in the same boat that I usually play for a large chunk of time and then lost interest in them and never picked them back up. It’s a bad habit of mine, which is why my To Be Continued list is quite large. ><

Trilled Meow

Yeah, I have the same habit. It’s rare that I ever actually beat a long RPG despite liking them.

Trilled Meow

I’m not sure how well I’ll do because I’ve been into trying to git gud at web design again and this time have a personal/family project in mind, but I’m open to suggestions. Please treat unfinished games like never played. Also no Bioshock or Borderlands because I beat those before on console and they aren’t a replay priority atm. Thanks!

Spamlynguist

Here’s some games I picked out for you!

Trilled Meow

Good picks, thanks. Boot Hill Heroes is one I know is good that I stopped playing for some reason–I think I got overwhelmed by the big city and lost focus.

Trilled Meow

I didn’t do so well, but I didn’t game much in general. I finished Kona and AER. I really liked Kona, which you saw in my last update. I thought AER was kind of boring–lots of empty space with everything far apart. Despite that, I think I had a decent experience because the mechanics worked fine and flying was fun. Thanks again. Looking at the list again, I don’t know why I didn’t manage to at least play/beat Shrouded Isle one day. I blame February for being short.

Spamlynguist

Hey no worries man, I also only finished 2 games myself.

Glad you liked Kona! I should go back to that game myself sometime. I also wasn’t sure about AER when I picked it, only played that a few minutes myself.

Spamlynguist

I’m down for this!

Please treat unfinished games as unplayed, as I tend to play games for a few minutes to check them out.

Please don’t pick The Bureau: XCOM Declassified or Half-Life 2 and it’s episodes as I’ve already beaten them on console.

No multiplayer-only games.

Thanks!

ninglor03

On it

ninglor03
  • Mass Effect - HLTB Time: 17h + - BECAUSE IT’S MASS EFFECT AND I LOVE IT! Although I like 2 and 3 more, but gotta start with 1! <3
  • Silence of the Sleep - HLTB Time: 6 - 8h - SG win
  • Snake Pass - HLTB Time: 5 - 11h - SG win and it looks kinda fun?
  • Papers, Please - HLTB Time: 4 - 16h - I liked this! I rly did! It doesn’t look like a game I would like, but yeah, here we are, right?
  • Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - HLTB Time: 18h - Yep, another one I enjoyed a lot!

Hope you have fun with them. If not and if there is any problem, just tell me and I shall fix this :)
Also you could totally mark both games as beaten or completed ;)
Happy gaming! \o/

Spamlynguist

Nice picks, thanks!

I stopped playing Mass Effect because it crashed at a certain point, but I’ll try to get it fixed. Might be a conflicting mod that’s the problem. I did really enjoy it up until that point though!

Papers, Please is one I tried to start playing several times but I never did. Maybe this time I’ll be motivated to play it :)

ninglor03

Ah yeah. I know that problem. Had it too. Basically that’s why I played the first one the least. Buuuut I did LOADS of saving, so when it crashed I didn’t loose that much playtime ;)
Hope it somehow works though without crashing!

I only ever played the story mode. The free play freaked me out, just thinking about it. If it’s not working out for you, just ignore it or tell me and I’ll pick something else :)

Spamlynguist

I ended up beating Papers, Please today! I got ending 4 out of 20, which is probably one of the worst ones but I do plan on replaying it later for the different endings. Really glad I finally played it :D

I also made a little progress in Cognition and I’m near the end of Chapter One in Silence of the Sleep (which is spookier than I imagined it would be).

ninglor03

I honestly can’t remember xD

Silence of the Sleep does sound spooky though scared Me not likey spooky!
How do you like Cognition so far?

Spamlynguist

My playthrough got cut short because I took a 1000 credits from a stranger and got arrested thanks to a neighbour that reported me :P

I’ve played too little of Cognition to have an opinion on it but it’s pretty nice so far.

I also finally fixed Mass Effect, so I can go back to it again! :D

ninglor03

Ahahaha! Those mean neighbours! That reminds me I still have to play Beholder. They do things like that there, right? xD

Oki, I shall just wait and see :]

Yes! \o/ That are awesome news! <3

Spamlynguist

I just beat Snake Pass, I really enjoyed it!

ninglor03

Very nice! Glad you enjoyed it! \o/
I’m having a great time with Our Love Will Grow :)

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Ayy so i have a co,op again but i dont wanna skip a month.

Please treat gifts the same as wins and unfinished the same as unplayed.

Dont pick anything previously picked

Also be gentle cause i dont have alot of time. 🙏

86maylin
  • Day of the Tentacle Remastered - HLTB Time: 4.5 hours - I just finished it for my last challenge me. It’s pretty fun.
  • Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - HLTB Time: 6.5 hours - Since I’m planning on focusing on finishing unfinished games this month, I decided to look into your unfinished games to pick some.
  • TIS-100 - HLTB Time: 15.5 hours - Join me on the adventure of scratching our heads off to think of the solution and finishing this game. :D
  • One Small Fire At A Time - HLTB Time: 4 hours - Game name is pretty interesting.
  • Soul Gambler - HLTB Time: 1 hours - I remember getting this game in a steam bundle when I first discovered steam. :P

Also, how have you not finished Ori and the Blind Forest yet? xD And I kinda wanna pick Subnautica but since it’s super long I decided to not pick it, but honorable mention! Also also, didn’t pick any SG wins since there really wasn’t any to pick from. :P

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Ori and the blind forest is in the same catagory as hollow knight for me :3 games i tell people i like but i havent had the time or energy to finish

Thanks for the picks \o/

ninglor03

I’m not done yet with last months - but only one game standing - and I’d like to do more.
Personal rule:
Don’t mind SG wins - rly don’t.
I would very much like you to pick games you liked. Maybe say a few words about it? Which means, I rly don’t care about steam ratings for games ;)
Pls mind game order. Not three before one. My PoP list might help, bc I basically did that, but you can totally look at my never played and unfinished games! That’s totally fine!
I would very much like you to give me one “endless” game. I ofc won’t finish that, but I want a push to play some. Bc right now I rly avoid them and that ANNOYS ME SOOOOO BADLY! If you have trouble with this request, feel free to ask me for help :)
Oh and no Multi/coop games and no free to play games :]

Spamlynguist

I’ll pick out some games when I get home :)

ninglor03

Thank you! <3

Spamlynguist

These are all games I’ve played (except for Our Love Will Grow) and quite liked!

Watch Dogs 2 is a blast and can definitely be beaten faster than the 18½ hours listed on HLTB. Shadow of War is really fun but can get quite repetitive near the end with all the Sieges. How to Survive is one that I haven’t finished yet but I remember enjoying it at the time.

I chose Our Love Will Grow because it was one of the few Endless games you haven’t played yet and I see you played Stardew Valley quite a bit so I thought you would like it as well!

Let me know if you like what I picked or want to switch them with other games.

ninglor03

Yay! They all look awesome - apart from How to Survive which I somehow consider as MP? Is it not? Mhm. Maybe I should look into it.

Also - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! - would you mind repicking either WD2 or Shadow of War? Two long games might become trouble for me, since I tend to… play them a lot.
Maybe from medium long games - it’s just a short selection, since I never sorted all my games. Maybe I should do this. Yeah, I should sort more! I’m going sorting now :D

But thank you sooooo much! \o/

Spamlynguist

How to Survive is more of a single-player ARPG with survival elements that also has local co-op for the Story Mode and some games modes (challenges I believe?) that can be played online with up to 8 players.

I’ll swap Shadow of War with: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series - HLTB Time: 8½ Hours - 10 Hours , which is a game I don’t own myself but has been on my wishlist for a while now.

ninglor03

Ok, I shall do this!

Yay! That’ll be great! <3
Thank you for the trouble!

Spamlynguist

No problem at all, have fun! :D

ninglor03

Since I first had to finish the last game from last challenge me, I now have finished the first one - although the shortest :D
I kinda want to jump right into the Telltale game, but I think I should first play the longer ones…. Mhm. not sure. I’ll keep you posted :]

Spamlynguist

Nicely done!

ninglor03

I’ve beaten How To Survive. I’m absolutely not going for 100% with this one :]

Spamlynguist

Haha, I totally get that!

I’m currently on level 10 of Snake Pass myself and I think I’ll beat it as my second game this weekend.

ninglor03

Good luck with that! You can totally do that! \o/

ninglor03

Guardians down as well. Atm I’m a productive farmer.

Spamlynguist

You’re on a roll! I should really get back to my Challenge Me games, haven’t played any since I beat Snake Pass.

ninglor03

Yeah. One might also say I’m gaming too much atm. But we don’t do that, right? :D

ninglor03

You look different <3
Soooo, I’ve finished farming. Married one of the girls and I’m done :D
Won’t play the last one thought - shame on me, I know hide

Spamlynguist

Haha yeah guess I do. I was just messing around in Photoshop and this is what came out :)

You didn’t do bad at all! I really have to go back to my 3 remaining Challenge Me games later this year (I’m so sorry for Mass Effect).

ninglor03

You’ll manage at some point, I’m sure of it :)

Wintermute

All right, participated last time for my first time and it helped me killing two games.
So, let’s try again!

Also, I don’t know if it’s allowed to add specific parametered requests, I hope so. If it’s allowed, good, otherwise please ignore them and pick whatever you think is ok.

If possible, I would like my picker choosing one or two recently released games (if I have any left and I should!) from my backlog.
Additionally, if possible, I would like to have a variety of genres picked.
Finally, as others have written, please, treat unfished games (which I often start just to take a quick bite at them) as unplayed, thanks.

Thanks since now!

Daerphen

feel free to give specific parameter, but in the end, it is up to the picker to follow.

Wintermute

Very good, thanks for the feedback

JaffaCaffa

Feel free to lemme know if you want anything swapped out! Not sure how recent you wanted, but one is from 2019 and 2 are from the second half of ‘18. They’re also all SG wins, you had so many great ones I was excited to choose from. :) Have fun.

  • Return of the Obra Dinn - HLTB Time: 8-10 hrs - This is my #1 WL’d, super stoked for it and have heard nothing but wonderful things.
  • SUNLESS SKIES - HLTB Time: ? - Very new release
  • Goat Simulator - HLTB Time: 1½ - 9 hrs - Was a pleasant surprise, had a lot of fun with this one.
  • Redout: Enhanced Edition - HLTB Time: 17½+ (I got all the chieves in 13 hrs, but there’s multiple versions of races/DLC you can do outside of them) -
I just beat this one last month and it’s a new favourite of mine, such a blast and adrenaline rush!
  • Frostpunk - HLTB Time: 9½-37½ hrs
Wintermute

Thanks indeed, JC, for your nice picking and for the attention to my requests!
Will surely try Return of the Obra Dinn: I really hope it can be as good as everyone say.

EDIT: played and beat The Return of the Obra Dinn: it has been a true blast! Twisted, puzzling, captivating… one of the best gaming experiences if these last years! Totally recommended!

JaffaCaffa

That’s awesome to hear, so glad you enjoyed it. :D

bloudeuedd

I’d like to participate. Please don’t pick multiplayer games or early access. Thank you!

ninglor03

2 days? I’ll do you! <3

ninglor03

Wow I could totally just work with your wins….! I shall restrain myself though :)

Right, I wanted to ask why you don’t have any games after H, but I think my browser never stopped loading. So for me you only have games up to H today :D

If you want me to repick something, feel free to ask, I’m happy to help :)
Otherwise I hope you’ll have fun, apart from the wins I dunno the games, so no idea how they work out o.o

Trilled Meow

Wow, someone else who likes the Midnight Mysteries games! I feel like they have good atmosphere and the stories aren’t as generic as most HOGs since they draw from history and literature. I read House of the 7 Gables and played the Hawthorne one over the summer because I was going to Salem on a trip, and I cracked up when the game showed “Blood in his throat!” when people were found dead, a curse from the book. They definitely get me on Wikipedia, too.

ninglor03

But but but but but! Who wouldn’t like them?
I love when games also teach you something. Like parts of history. Or at least make you look into history.
Well HOGs certainly taught me a lot of English Words I’d normally neither use nor need. Now I know them and occasionally use them :D
How was Salem? :) (also maybe reply on my request up there somewhere, so we don’t spam bloudeuedd that much ;) xD)

bloudeuedd

Hey! Thank you for taking the time for chooding the games. I started all of them. I have issues with Midnight Mysteries, the first time I started it I played a good portion but then I couldn’t get the game work again, have to try harder. Played a couple of times through Swordbreaker, still have a couple of playthroughs left and I will do them, since I seem to find new scenes every time. Enemy Mind is a bit frustratimg for me, since I’m bad at these kind of shooters, a friend is helping me. And am saving Chip for an afternoon when I will be laying on couch with my laptop. So sadly I didn’t really finish any of them yet. But at the same time, luckily I didn’t finish any of them yet, but will, am still playing them, when I find the time and I’ll continue this Challenge me through the next month. So thank you for picking good games, they are fun :-D

ninglor03

Glad you like them! And no pressure. Just enjoy them and I’m happy :)

Alizarine

I have a bad habit of not finishing these so please feel free to skip me if you don’t wanna waste your time ;-; I have been getting more back into playing games lately, but with this many games I sincerely can’t remember a lot of the great ones I have. Even if I don’t get to them this month, I will eventually, since they’ll end up being higher priority.

I’m really not feeling “big world fps/3rd person” and I don’t really have anyone to play multiplayer games with, so please consider that. Would love if they’re games you’ve enjoyed and would personally recommend.

Daerphen

All of them I have played myself. Except of Seven: The Days Long Gone I actually finished and got all achievements. They are really nice. Regarding your lack of interest of big world 3rd person I somehow didn’t fully consider, but I think Sherlock Holmes does not really cound as big world. It plays inside a big city, but you cannot run everywhere, and the mission approach narrows your walking paths.

Abzu is in my opinion a nice exploration game. Took me a couple of replays though, to get all achievements.
35MM is a short walking sim, playing in Russia. Also Silent Age is a rather easy point&click with not too complex item logic.

Hope you enjoy. Please tell me, if anything should be repicked/exchanged

Alizarine

None of these are similar to anything I’ve been playing lately, so it’s going to be nice to kind of step out of my current comfort zone. The Sherlock Holmes game might be a bit tough for my attention span right now, but I’ll try my best. I’ll only ask for repicks if a game refuses to start or something like that.

Thank you for taking the time to pick for me! I do have a small game I have to finish first but I’ll get to these as soon as I finish that.
