On my way to 99% completion rate

  • Euro Truck Simulator 2

    62 hours playtime

    26 of 60 achievements

And that's the end of my story. I was driving too fast and didn't check my navigation as I should have. I will never know exactly what would happen if I managed to deliver my cargo that cold night in June because as far as everyone else is concerned I'm just a failed truck driver.

I actually have tons of things to report but I don't feel like writing about them right now due to heavy work load and me being way too determined to 100% (if possible) Euro Truck Simulator 2 to reach my highly coveted goal of having 99% achievement completion rate. Therefore every free time goes into it. I'll prepare that post eventually.

MouseWithBeer

From someone who 100%ed ETS2. Best of luck, seriously. Its mostly not too bad, but the Pathfinder achievement is a huge pain in the ass. If you don’t have the Italy and France DLC yet I would highly recommend you to finish that one first before buying them.

Forsaken

Thank you so much. That was actually a question I had in mind. “How does 100% discovery work?” Is it for base game only or do I need all map expansion DLCs or can I get it before buying map expansion DLCs so on and on. Thank you for answering this question. Same thing applies to using all docks etc too. I think I made it harder by having Scandinavia before doing that. Base game seems to have very limited number of ports whereas Scandinavia added tons of them.

I’m almost certain that I’ll have bought the DLCs before I get Pathfinder. I don’t have the type of daily profit from my drivers to go full free roam at the moment even though I know it’d help me in the long run achievement wise. I’ll buy the DLCs during Summer Sale if they have any discounts, if not I’ll wait.

MouseWithBeer

If the achievement doesn’t state that you need any DLC to complete it you can always finish it just with the base game (and whatever DLC you already got). Personally I used the Scandinavia ports a lot so I didn’t even have to go out of my way to get that achievement. Italy and Going East add 2 more ports each if I remember correctly.

I was crazy enough to finish Pathfinder with all the DLC already (while you can remove the DLC, unless you got an old save file its not gonna work without them) and I would really not recommend the experience. So if you don’t have the achievement yet by that time I would either make a backup save file or gift them from a different account and only accept it when ready. They do go on sale every big sale and sometimes in between.

If you have any more questions anytime feel free to ask :)

Forsaken

It makes perfect sense to make a back up save, that’s what I’ll do then. Current progress is something like 39.6% so uhm… Yay me :’( I haven’t really done a lot of free roam though, I’m still in the very early stages of building garages (only 3) and improving drivers (only 7) which will be time consuming already. Once I buy a bunch of garages I will fast travel between them and free roam to discover while also taking some screenshots along the way.

I do have one question. I have driver fatigue disabled and I found that I can’t rest anywhere. Do I have to enable it, make my driver tired and then disable fatigue again to be able to rest? I read that I should be able to rest whenever I want when I have fatigue disabled but I am not even getting any rest icons. I was trying that “deliver urgent cargo with 30 minutes remaining” achievement and I looked for a rest stop to pass the time but I simply can’t rest. I am not using any mods by the way. I have 11 hours of game-time to idle for that achievement and I can’t even use computer for other tasks cause the game pauses when I alt tab :/ I am not looking forward to that :@

Thanks a lot for all the help, it truly means a lot.

MouseWithBeer

Once you have more garages and drives a good way to ramp up money is to just fast travel from one garage to the other and you will earn money in the mean time. Another option is to take deliveries to/from Scandinavia where you have to take the ferry as it gives you all the money your drivers “earned” while you were on it once you disembark.

I am not home so I do not have the game and save file to test but I am pretty sure you should be able to rest even with fatigue off if on any rests stops. At least you should be able to see the icons on the map for sure (I have fatigue disable too and I see them).

For that achievement I would take an urgent delivery (if you got them unlocked already; I think you can filter for them since the last update) as there shouldn’t be that long of a wait time so worst case scenario you can just chill somewhere for an hour or so. Much better than the 11 hours.

Forsaken

That’s the problem though. I can see the rest stop icons on my map but I can’t make use of them to pass the time. I don’t see their icons in my game. I mean those icons that you stop at and then you get the option to buy fuel, purchase a garage etc etc. The icon to rest is not there while it is still being displayed on map.

I already have an urgent delivery finished, I’m currently waiting in the parking location to press T to finish the delivery. It’s just that there was 11 hours left on deadline so I need to wait until it’s 30 minutes remaining. I’ve been idling it while reading a book so it’s down to 8 hours now.

The initial plan was to rest somewhere close to the delivery point (according to the map there are 3 rest stops right next to the delivery location). I read that resting takes 9 hours so it’d leave me with 2 game hours to idle which is nothing. But since I can’t rest anywhere for some reason I have to just sit still for 11 game hours and wait for the remaining deadline timer to be under 30 minutes and then deliver the cargo. There is a port next to me but the only available destination takes over 17 hours to travel therefore I can’t make use of that either. There is nothing for me to do but wait for who knows how long in real life to pass 11 game hours.

MouseWithBeer

Ohhhh I see where the problem is now. I thought you didn’t see them on the map. There are no rest icons like to refuel (at least I never had them, even when I had the fatigue on). You drive onto the spot (if on the gas station is usually a parking spot, if hotel you just need to drive far enough into the lot) and then it should pop up a notification on your GPS if you want to rest and you just press E (or whatever the turn off engine key is) I think.

Edit: Installing ETS2 on my laptop now to double check that I am not talking nonsense.

Double edit: I was almost right. You do need to drive onto a parking spot in hotels too and you need to press both E to turn off the engine and then enter to confirm that you wanna rest. Everything else is holds true.

Forsaken

I’m facepalming right now. I simply went somewhere I could see the rest mark on my map and stopped. I pressed E to turn off engine even Space for brakes but I was inside the hotel walls when I did that. I think I had to do it on the parking space. I just tried it on a gas station and it worked when I stopped at a clearly marked parking lot. I got “rest” achievement 2 years ago so I totally forgot how it was properly done.

Thank you so much, you helped a ton. I still got the achievement without resting, it took about 2.5 hours in real life to wait for 11 hours to go down to 30 minutes in game. It’s all good cause I read about 120 pages of my book meanwhile :D

MouseWithBeer

Yea it is not the worlds most intuitive thing :/ Glad to hear that it actually works and its not some weird bug at least.

No problem at all, if there is anything else you are unsure about just send me a message :) Hope the book was interesting! :)

I have a question about Pathfinder! (And good insight on the DLC for it, too…)
I keep trying to drive on every bit of road in each town for that – is that actually necessary, or do I just need to visit the town?

MouseWithBeer

For Pathfinder you need to drive on every bit of road. This includes also all kinds of lots (companies, gas stations, hotels, recruitment agencies,..). Basically the whole map needs to be yellow in the end. A helpful thing to do is to get a mod like this (this one is not updated, but I can’t for the life of me find the one I used) that hides the icons and makes easier to see the missing pieces of the map.

godprobe

Hmm… yep… I think I’ll probably be skipping that achievement then. :)
Thank you very much for the answer though! (And the mod tip… just in case…)

MouseWithBeer

I don’t blame you. I think it took me a good 25 hours to complete Pathfinder after I was done with all the other achievements. No problem, if you have any other questions feel free to ask :)

miroe250

Good luck with ETSII, waiting for your update :)

Forsaken

Thank you, I appreciate it ^^

disobeyeddycha

To be honest - I had such high completion percentage on my ps3 profile (maintaining it with just 30 games wasn’t that hard :P) and it didn’t help me at all. I wanted to keep it that way, so I’ve selected my games carefully, if game had any broken trophies or dead multiplayer, even if the game itself was great, I passed. I was obsessed, but thankfully I’m back into regular gaming. Good luck on your quest, I was too weak :D

Forsaken

Thank you. I wouldn’t consider that weak at all actually. I completely admire that you could break yourself free from it. I actually admit I’m very stupid about this but for me personally the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

First of all it simply makes me feel good, considering that I don’t feel good most of the time this is the biggest plus. Secondly I’m insanely picky with my games regardless of being a completionist or not. Which means achievement hunting gives me the incentive to spend more time on a game while I wait for the next game to buy which generally takes too long due to my pickiness.

Right now the only game I’m dying to play is 5 months away. Therefore I need to pass the time somehow with the limited number of games I have left in my backlog :D

disobeyeddycha

My backlog contains a lot of games from my past, and is still under development :P I’m buying new game after beating/completing 5 others, but on steam/gog there’s a lot of free ones. And of course sg. Years ago I’ve started my own excel with every title that I own, also added time from hltb - and after short calculations (average 6h per week of games for me) I have around 18 years to just beat all of them. If I would like to complete everything - 41 years :D Just those sheer numbers convinced me to just enjoying them games :) But I’ll will complete DOOM, already spend 83 hours instead 13 as the story was :D

Forsaken

Oh wow in that case it’s even better that you managed to rid yourself of that addiction. 18 years :O That’s a lot for sure. At least this way you get to test out a lot of games you wanna play instead of being stuck in one for a very long period of time whether you enjoy it a lot or not.

Here is what SteamLeft shows for my account. I’d also like to mention that most of the games this program thinks I haven’t played have been finished outside of Steam or being played on an alt account. So that 16 days result is not accurate at all. I’d think that 7-8 days or so would be more accurate :P I do have one game I wanna play a lot on GOG but that’s about it.

Other than that my backlog will have been long done by the time the game I want is released if I actually pay attention to the few remaining games I have left :) I am thinking of replaying some of my most favourite older classics once I’m officially done.

Good luck with DOOM :)

disobeyeddycha

My main “problem” comes from my local magazine, which comes with 1-3 games monthly, with tendency to 3 last maybe 5 years. And it’s almost 13 years :D Of course I’m reading it from page to page, getting me ready for more (shamefully I have like 5 even not searched through). So I have some games that I want to get, as well as overall view on this part of my hobby :D

godprobe

Are you sure you weren’t just changing a tire? Easy access to the spare and the trailer’s already jacked without even needing extra tools! No one parks a truck like that unless it’s intentional! :D

Forsaken

Cheers for giving me the perfect excuse for this. At first I was thinking along the lines “it was lag” :P

Quinze

I thought I was a horrible video game driver.
Then I saw that screenshot.

Quinze

And that’s the end of my story, someone managed to be even worse than I am at driving in video games. I’ll never know what it feels like to be the worst video game driver ever for longer than 2 minutes, cause as far as the rest of the world is concerned, I’m just an average video game driver.

Forsaken

And that’s how my story ends. I made this post and let people ridicule me. I will have to live in shame forever. I will never know what it feels like to have human contact ever again because as far as the world is concerned I’m just a shameful failure.

Licena

Just checking the road for microbiologic behaviour, nothing wrong with that!
GL with the achievement hunting :o

Forsaken

Haha exactly. Thank you so much :)

EvilBlackSheep

Best of luck to reach 100%!

Forsaken

Very accurate gif ^^ Thank you!

EvilBlackSheep

(Pretty much me too when i tried playing that game at a friend’s place to try and understand the hype)

Forsaken

Oh tell me about it. That is exactly why I made this mistake.

It was a key dump from a website I frequented 3 years ago. The place was filled with ETS 2 updates and I just wanted to see what it was about and why people loved it that much. So “unfortunately” for me I was the first to test that key. I ended up activating it on my account and then got an achievement when I was testing it. Ugh.

Lucky Thirteen

Lol, I was about to make a funny joke about an IKEA truck, then I noticed it says IKA. So close! :D

Forsaken

IKEA is definitely the inspiration behind that. There are many playful versions of actual companies :)
