It’s Monday ! ~ Delivery service

What ! Again ? Apparently Monday comes back every week with new topic. At least that’s what I was told.
Monday also generally means that I will get some packages delivered and this Monday didn’t make exception. The thing is when I made the whole list of stuff that were supposed to be delivered this week, the only thing I found matching the date were 2 1/2 inch medical tapes. And the delivering service that requested me to pick the date and hour was Fed Ex.

I don’t even want to know how much it did cost to them knowing that it was free delivery for me.

I’m being told that I’m supposed to speak about games. So here is a game story.

This week-end I bought two keys for two games I want since a while on e-bay and I just received the confirmation that the keys will be sent to me via mail. Not email. Mail. To my mail address. I’ll receive the two keys written on paper via mail, I don’t even know why this is a thing, but I can’t wait to receive a postcard from UK with just two games keys on it.

What was your most ridiculous experience with a delivery ? Was it about the size of item inside of the giant or too small package ? What is about the delay ? Or maybe about the way it was delivered ? I can’t wait to hear your stories !

Cece09

You know what, we get everyone else talking about the games they played so why have you also doing it. We just have you to make this a social site instead, also that delivery is a bit silly. I do have some stories of my own and 1 I even had.

So for the ones done to me was actually 2 and they all revolved around my manga. 1st time problem was when I ordered a book and it just never arrived to me so I ended up getting a refund but I also couldn’t get another shipped out so I brought it again from someone else with a bunch more and the same damn book was not available! I got a message told I was going to get a refund a couple of days later had to get in contact since they didn’t issue it. Luckily on my 3rd time the book arrived but only after I paid extra for it

The 2nd one would have to be a delay. There was a new ebay seller who was selling off their 3set manga for £10 + £3 postage which was a bargain. Typically it’s around £10 for a used book so I was happy to manage to buy that but of course since they were new they struggled alot. By 2 weeks delay they finally shipped it out and arrived, looked at postage and noticed they actually did it 1st class so it cost them more when I would’ve been fine with them still just doing 2nd class. I have also just finished reading that 3book set and damn I would’ve been happy paying more for them since they were the best I own.

So my 1 I was trying to send a card to america. It was all fine with the price since it would’ve just been the price for a normal stamp. However there was a slight bump in the card that made what shoud’ve been around £1 to a £5 stamp all because of a tiny bump. By that point I spent so much on the card already I wasn’t going to say no to paying that damn £5 stamp. I should’ve just done a parcel it would’ve been cheaper. It really is just a surprise how postage is done with different places. I’ve brought dvds before and spent double on postage which is just insane, in the end it would still be the same price just they decide to put it into the postage instead of the actual cost of the item

ηιgнтмαzє

+£4 just for a little bump ? What a crazy story D: !

My most ridiculous experience with delivery was when I ordered a book from the UK, and they accidentally sent it to Italy. 3 months later I finally received it, it was in bad shape (although content was still mostly intact. It was a book though, so it’s not exactly fragile), and with several Italian stamps and some scribbling on the package.

Worst messup from the company I ordered from was when I ordered a steamlink, when it was on sale on Steam, and Valve ended up providing the courier company with the wrong information. In my attempts to solve things, I found out that Valve had given the courier company my address, but someone else’s phone number as well as some other identifying information, which then ended up in my hands. Needless to say, I don’t trust Valve with basic security anymore, and give them the least amount of identifying information I can and don’t store my payment card information, any payment goes through paypal.

ηιgнтмαzє

How did they manage to send that in Italy is the true question, glad you managed to receive it though !
And wow, I’m getting worried about Valve too now ^^” !

Fnord

British Postal service is known for being quite awful :P

Steam seems to be a complete mess under the hood. There are so many issues that are left unfixed by Valve that I’m kind of surprised that the whole thing is not collapsing in on itself. There’s for an example a known issue, that’s been around for 6 years now, where Steam will randomly download and delete Workshop content for games that you’ve don’t have installed, even if you’re not subscribing to any workshop content for that game. Must be fun for people with data caps!

Minamimoto

I once received a package two sizes me and there only was a little board game in it. Also without any filling material, so the board game opened itself and every little piece like tokens fell out. Some got lost because the oversized package had holes in the corners. Whoever sent this must’ve been a real genius.

Another tiny story is about me and my mom who send away selfmade easter eggs every year. My mom is obsessed with tiny cute boxes she makes herself, so little only the egg fits in it. They’re really cute and beautiful about 5x10cm? So every goddamn year for over 20 years we have to discuss with our shop if those boxes are shippable. They say you have to use their boxes, blabla, they will be lost blabla. We never ever had any problem, never did a tiny box disappear or was delayed, but still we have to argue with them every year for half an hour until they say “You’ll see!” and finally accept them.

ηιgнтмαzє

I spoke with my physio yesterday, she told me she kept receiving giant box with one single tub of pommade. She keeps telling them to stop sending them one by one in a giant container, she keeps receiving those giant box with only a single tube inside.

Lucky Thirteen

the keys will be sent to me via mail. Not email. Mail.

This is hilarious :D
Btw, I like how you would prefer to talk about anything but games :D Can’t have that! What are the two games you bought on e-bay?

I don’t have any ridiculous delivery stories, as far as I recall. But your story with game keys reminded me of the (relatively) recent Ass Creed screw-up, you’re probably aware. They teamed up with some food manufacturer and the said food products came with a key that you could redeem in-game to get stuff like XP boosters. The most genius thing? The codes were printed on the outside of the package, just like that, for everyone to see.

ηιgнтмαzє

AH ! But I’m pretty sure I can get any topic to eventually turn into a gaming topic. How about that hilarious postage situation turning into “did you try Unbox: Newbie’s Adventure ? It’s in my wish list and on sale right now, but I’m unsure I should take it.”.
Or maybe I’m not a full fledged member because I post about random things, though most of them have at least a tidbit gaming related :) !
DAMN IT, YOU DON’T WANT ME TO BE INSIDE THE GROUP BECAUSE I DON’T SPEAK OF THE GAMES I’M PLAYING T_T !!!

Holy mother of screw-up. We got a winner there, thanks for sharing with me, I’m actually unaware of a lot of stuff regarding video games and I love to hear about silly stories such as this one ♥ !

As for the two games I ordered on e-bay: You’ll know everything about it next Monday, you’ve got to wait :D !

Lucky Thirteen

I love to hear about silly stories such as this one

Glad I could share something entertaining :)

I think I got an Unbox: Newbie’s Adventure key from Lootboy the other day, you can have it if you want :)

ηιgнтмαzє

Somehow I think that people do like those sort of topics even though they aren’t 100% game themed, I’m surprised to see how many answers they got while I was doing other stuff.

I would think of myself as abusing your kindness if I were to accept the game without giving you anything in exchange, you’re too nice to me i_i !

Lucky Thirteen

Nonsense, I wouldn’t offer you the key if I didn’t mean it or I would specifically mention that we can trade if I expected something in return :) I’ll send you a friend request on Steam.

ηιgнтмαzє

You’re too nice to me, I’ll find something for you, one day, just wait for it !
By the way, since you seem to really like skulls, I thought of you when seeing this :

Squishable

You can find it on Squishable website.

Lucky Thirteen

Aww, that’s adorable! And I like this quote from the website:

Let’s give skulls the credit they deserve!

ηιgнтмαzє

Would have I know you a few days earlier that would have been better, they were doing a -50% on the whole website if you wanted a little skull plush ♥

ninglor03

Let’s just hope it’s NOT a postcard! O.O

But it reminds me, I wanted to go on the hunt for a Wii game thinking
I should do this :]

ηιgнтмαzє

DO EET, JUST, DO EET !

We’ll see if your hope comes to be the reality.. Next Monday.. Yes that’s called a cliffhanger :D !

ninglor03

Bought the game… Just not on Ebay :D

ηιgнтмαzє

Congratz ! Now you have to tell us what was the game and if it’s fun !

ninglor03

Rayman Raving Rabbids - TV Party
I played it YEARS ago and I sooooo miss playing the music songs. So here I am, having the game. Gotta play the game! \o/

ηιgнтмαzє

I wish you a LOT of fun ♥

MouseWithBeer

The most ridiculous experience with a delivery?
Waiting a month for my shiny new keyboard to be delivered to the wrong continent… And it wasn’t even countries with similar names like Switzerland and Swaziland, Slovakia and Slovenia or something like that. They managed to mix up USA and Slovenia somehow… Needless to say I was mad.

Fnord

Wow, that’s orders of magnitude worse than my Italy story above!

MouseWithBeer

To be fair mine didn’t end too bad at least. After I provided proof to the company I ordered from that it wasn’t delivered right they sent me a new one and I got it in less than 2 weeks :)

On the other hand Italian post is the fucking worst. I have a friend that lives about ~100km away from me across the border in Italy. I sent him a package for his birthday a couple of years ago and it took over 2 weeks to arrive and at that point we thought it got lost… I should have driven and delivered it in person instead. For comparison it takes a package 3 days tops to be delivered if sent to Germany and Germany is also a lot further away.

ηιgнтмαzє

Could it be that there was a similar town name in the USA ? I know for example that there is a town named exactly like mine in Canada and another in the USA.

MouseWithBeer

There is exactly 0 chance there is another town with the same name anywhere in the world (very specific name in a language than is only spoken in my country) so while that could be an decent explanation, it is not the case here.

ηιgнтмαzє

Sometimes, only stupidity can be the explanation to something stupid.

Cece09

Wow 2 people here who have had trouble with different places. While I’ve had trouble myself with 1 parcel being delivered somewhere else I have no idea where mine went. I was just tracking the parcel to be told it was delivered yet I sure didn’t get a damn thing. Then I had to wait a whole month to receive the brand new one since loot crate only fixes the problem at the end of the month!

MouseWithBeer

Huh I haven’t seen tracking that just shows you that it was delivered before, it is all or nothing here except for UPS which calls you before delivering, but UPS can burn in hell. Glad you received it in the end at least, even if you had to wait.

Cece09

yeah I don’t know what tracking loot crate uses but it will tell you when it’s delivered which is great for finding out if you never got it but pointless normally. Oh and it apparently wasn’t clear but it does tell you everything else like where it is, shipped all that junk. I mainly use it so I can see that the royal mail has received the item but just holding onto it for a week. When it didn’t arrive I got told to see if the post office still had it but problem is I can’t ask without a tracking number something that is only allowed if it’s their own tracking which it was not. Plus the customer wasn’t allowed to ask it was the person who sent it who had to ask so I seriously was in so much doubt when that happened. Like don’t tell me to call my post office, they clearly say only the sender!

MouseWithBeer

Sounds like they have normal package tracking you can get by the delivery service and have decided to instead of just giving the customer the tracking number they have built a page where they show the tracking instead? Which is so incredibly retarded I can not even.

ηιgнтмαzє

I got the problem many times, but fortunately with Amazon so I would solve the problem quickly.
Last time it happened, the package was written as placed in the mailbox and it was nowhere to be found (tbh, what it was couldn’t fit the mailbox). I chatted with Amazon and they told me they would get in touch with the delivery service and investigate.

Two days later, a really pissed up person calls on the phone without telling who the hell she was and basically tells us we’re idiots and we should have guessed that she hid the package somewhere within a bush near the entrance. She even told my boyfriend that she would come to fetch it for us since we were so dumb that we couldn’t guess where it was in the first place.
I’m living inside what is called a “maison de maître” which is basically a really old mansion in a protected area AKA the garden is actually a park and there are tons of bushes and I also have a ton of neighbor. We never found the package and alerted Amazon that the person who delivered us took the liberty to call us only to be really aggressive.

Unsure how the story ends for the person who called us, but we got a replacement for the lost package and never heard about her again.

Trent

I had the same thought as Nin above. If they’re on a postcard, then let’s hope your mail carrier doesn’t use Steam…

Many years ago I ordered a RAM upgrade and I thought the package never arrived, but it turns out the delivery company couldn’t find the front door. Now, the front door is somewhat obscured by the attached garage, but there’s an L-shaped walkway that takes you from the driveway around the garage to the large, double front door. They showed it as delivered, but it didn’t require signature and they said they left it at the door. I don’t remember if I got a replacement, a refund, or if I was out the $$$, but what I do remember is that the following spring I found the package at our basement side door which you have to walk through our yard, down a slight hill, around to the side of the house, and go through some bushes just to place it at the door. There’s nothing about that door that says front door.

ηιgнтмαzє

I never thought about the postcard issues, I’m too used to send my postcard in an enveloppe ^^” !

the following spring

I’m really curious how long after you finally found out the package.

My own apartment is well hidden and I’m myself handicapped so I cannot run to the front door when a delivery happens. I went up and wrote an explanation of how to get to my apartment which is basically “follow the path up to the staircase, my apartment is on the left side.” Yet yesterday I got a deliveryman who managed to get lost in the path. It’s not a long path and there is only one, but as soon as he saw the house he literally freaked out on phone asking me where he had to go and why it was so complicated to come to my house.

I have to say though that Amazon makes it clears to every single of my deliveries that I can’t carry weight and am walking with a cane so I have to be delivered at my door step and most of the deliverymen just make sure I’m here before carrying the packages inside the house for me. I’m really grateful about that, there is nothing more annoying for me than when they just throw the package wherever they can (which happens sometimes, but I always get a refund or another delivery when the package is in bad shape).

Trent

I’m really curious how long after you finally found out the package.

I really don’t remember exactly, as this was many years ago, but it was at least a couple of months. Nobody uses the basement side door in the winter, so it just sat there until it was discovered in the spring, maybe the first time one of us mowed the lawn.

ηιgнтмαzє

Did you try it to see if it was working ?

Trent

You know, I really don’t remember what happened. I think maybe I got a free replacement (it was computer RAM) and couldn’t use the extra RAM even if it still worked (didn’t have the slots), so I just threw it away…? Forgive my bad memory, but understand this was about 30 years ago, before the average Steamgifter was even born. ;-)

ηιgнтмαzє

Don’t worry ! I’m just curious as it seems to be such a weird situation, thanks for feeding my curiosity ♥ !

Trent

No problem…happy to help…feed? :>

Lucky Thirteen

Having a very poor sense of direction myself, I feel sorry for the delivery person :D I get lost very easily, if I was to deliver you a package, you would find my remains somewhere in your backyard years later, lol.

Trent

Oh my, let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. I guess that job as an Amazon delivery associate will have to wait. :p

ηιgнтмαzє

I don’t know for you, but my sense of direction is so shitty that I manage to also get lost in games. I played Lineage II for 10 years in and out, yet I would constantly get lost on some specific areas of the map to the point my Clan’s members would take turn to guide me inside up to the group.

Lucky Thirteen

Oh yes, my poor sense of direction applies to games as well :D I get hopelessly lost without an in-game map - and sometimes even with it. That’s why I prefer games with smaller worlds, while everyone else loves huge open maps.

GiseIIe

That one time I bought the Fata Morgana artbook (my first and last delivery from Japan so far) and I paid more for a quick delivery bc I was worried and then here in Italy a courier strike happened that lasted 1+ month… fun times……………

ηιgнтмαzє

Ew, I hope you got it in the end and it was in good shape é_è

tsupertsundere

This is probably going to change it, but my luck has been pretty good with shipping things so far! I never had a big fuckup like this—
Oh, wait! There was one. We get a Yum Box every month, and a couple of months ago the package arrived crushed and one side had been ripped, hard enough to have ripped some of the snacks open inside. We contacted Universal Yums and they sent us a brand new box within like two days.

Otherwise, things have been good! It helps that I usually forget about shit I’ve ordered and then get to be surprised_pikachu dot jaypeg about them when they arrive!

ηιgнтмαzє

I like this, it’s like Christmas every time you get something delivered ^^ !

tsupertsundere

Right?? It’s awesome!

Trent

TIL that one can have international snacks delivered to your house monthly. Hmm.

tsupertsundere

TRENT YOU SHOULD TOTALLY DO IT
Each month it comes with a little booklet about the country and about each snack in detail, and there’s different games and quizzes with it. It’s cute and very kid-friendly and it teaches them about the world one snack at a time and it’s something madison and I enjoy every month!!

Trent

They have something a little bit like that, but not food-related. It’s called a Little Passport, World Edition. Maybe I’ll try Universal Yums after their sub expires. Any booze in those Yums? Asking for a friend…

tsupertsundere

Ha, nope! No booze, just snacks. also that is adorable
