100 BLACKLIST CHALLENGE REPORT #1 - NO PROGRESS YET

Hello there!! Happy new year to all! Today I write to ask you for advice from your vast pool of gaming knowledge. As I said in last post, I will try to tackle my remaining 100 backlog games, from which games 76 to 100 are in an undefined category for games I don’t know what to think about. Could you please recommend me some you enjoyed so I can prioritize them in the challenge, or that you hated so I can try them and axe them quickly to the abandoned category? They are the ones which interest me the least, so If not I’ll probably just procrastinate them till the end, which will be bad if I have to play 10+ bad games at once…

Here is the list:

American Fugitive
Ancestor’s Legacy
Aquaria
Cities in Motion
Devil May Cry
Faeria
Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes
Full Metal Furies
Hob
Little Big Workshop
MudRunners
Outcast: Second contact
Phantom Doctrine
Rebel Galaxy
Satellite Reign
Shadowrun Chronicles - Boston Lock.
Shadowrun Returns
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Sudeki
Sunless Sea
Survivalist
The Bard’s Tale IV
The Incredible Advent. of Van Helsing
Train Valley 2
Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus

Finally, since I should always post some kind of review, I post my first finished game of the year, which is not included in the challenge since it’s a coop game.

Half-Life 2
BONUS (COOP)

We Were Here Together

7/10
6 hours
13 of 22 achievements

This is a little gem to play with a spouse/friend. It's a short puzzle game for 2 players, which must work together (Often in separate locations, communicating via walkie) to advance. Story makes no sense, but puzzles are interesting and varied, and overall it's a very enjoyable experience to share with someone.

RECOMMENDED TO PLAY: YES
RECOMMENDED TO BUY: Only if you have someone to play, since it's COOP only game, and online match may prove hard.

Thanks for the help. Enjoy the weekend, and keep gaming!!

Personally haven’t played any of them yet, but regarding Shadowrun Chronicles - Boston Lockdown you might be either lucky (you’re done with the game, yay?) or unlucky (you won’t get to play it). Why? Servers needed even for singleplayer are down.

I just tried to install and play this game and you are totally right, it’s not possible anymore. It’s a pity to have to retire this one without even trying it, but such is life. Thanks for the tip!!

Vito

Yeah, I have the same problem with the game, really unfortunate :(

DarkX

I’ve played quite a bit of Faeria (almost 80 hours) and I really enjoyed it. If you’re into deck building card games with a lot of content, you’ll like it. I hadn’t played any similar games before it, so even if you don’t normally enjoy those, you might find it fun. It has a lot of content, I don’t think I completed everything in the game with all my hours and then there’s the multiplayer mode which also adds content.

Elvidur

I am not sure I’d enjoy a card game, especially one so long in content :_(. I might try some day then, but for sure will not be priority for now. Thanks for the help!!

Noble Gamer

I have played:

  • Shadowrun Dragonfall - Highly recommend, best game in the series.

  • Shadowrun Returns - Recommended if a fan of Shadowrun games. Otherwise its okay, not as polished as Dragonfall or Hong Kong.

  • Sunless Sea - Highly recommended if you like lovecraftian stuff and a text heavy story. Otherwise, the slow pace and some grinding can make it tough to play all the way through.

  • Train Valley (the first, not the second) - Recommended for strategy or puzzle fans. I figure the sequel is similar to the first game I played.

Games I have heard are great:

  • Phantom Doctrine

Games that dont seem good:

  • Shadowrun Chronicles - Boston Lock. These other Shadowrun games outside the 3 mentioned earlier are very different and arent really enjoyed by people who like the main 3.

  • Cities in Motion. It’s the sim city game made by the Cities Skylines devs before they made the Skylines. So Skylines is way better.

Elvidur

Thank you for your input! It seems I will need to take a better look into the Shadowrun franchise, since it’s totally under my radar. Sunless sea seems interesting, but I am smehow put off from the roguelike nature of it. Cities in motion might be OK, but as you say, I love Skylines and still come back to it, so maybe it will be not worth to go back in time to an older game.

aonrao

I only played Faeria. It’s fine but I didn’t enjoy it enough to play for longer. I moved it to “beaten” after 5-8 hours.

Elvidur

I will probably leave it till the end, since I don’t enjoy caard games that much. Thanks for the advice :)

Vito

I’ve enjoyed Rebel Galaxy quite a bit. I’m a huge SciFi fan though, willing to overlook a few of its flaws. It can be a bit repetitive and grindy, especially if you’re going for completing every achievement.

Elvidur

I checked it and it does not seem bad at all. I will try it for sure, thank you :)

Spitfyr

I liked Rebel Galaxy and Devil May Cry and can recommend both of them.
I was disappointed about Shadowrun Returns. This game looks a little bit unfinished. My playthrough was o.k but if you have 20 other games to play then maybe choose something else.

kubikill

The only game I played on that list is American Fugitive, which is ok but not terribly amazing. The main thing I disliked is that the main story missions are repetitive. It can be quite fun at times, though.

EvilBlackSheep

Not sure if you’re still taking opinions as I’m a bit late to the party but if you do, here’s my input:

  • Sunless sea is great if you’re not discouraged by a lot of reading. It’s slow and text heavy but really well written and has an awesome atmosphere.
  • From what i’ve been told (still have to play them myself), Shadowrun returns and Dragonfall are great, boston chronicles not that much.
  • Other games i’ve heard great things about and are on my ‘I strongly wanna play’ list are Train Valley 2 and Hob
  • Cities in motion was meh and I removed it from my steam library after I got cities Skylines which is by far superior. If you’re gonna put time into one of those time sinkers, you might not wanna pick the way less good one.
Elvidur

Of course I take them, and thank you for your input!

Sunless sea seems good, but I am a bit put back by games that you must restart from scratch on death, so I was procrastinating on it. Shadowrun games are on my to play for sure list now that some people recommended them, unfortunately Boston chronicles is not playable anymore. About cities in motion you might be right, I love Skylines and if it’s going to be the same I might try it and quickly uninstall.

I plan on taking into consideration all your advice, and make my next round of games from the ones people commented here, and see how it goes. “Unfortunately”, I am having a great time with AC Odyssey and I don’t know when I will finish it, seems it’s veeeery long :D

EvilBlackSheep

Have fun! I loved Odyssey, even though i had been out of the assassin’s creed series after black flag. It took A LONG time to finish indeed, but I really loved all the exploring.
