Blue Ϟ Lightning

I’m feeling really unmotivated to play anything. but also I want to play a game.

I’ve been scrolling up and down my steam library for ages and sure that’s not necessarily something new
but for awhile I’ve been fixing it by having people challenge me and pick something for me.
but right now I’m not in the mood for anything I’ve been challenged recently and I’m sitting here mindlessly scrolling up and down

and up and down.

and suffering.

I'm also reminded of all the people who've made before and after backlog posts and I really wish I had saved a snapshot of what my library looked like a year ago.
I wanna see some statsssssigh.
Joe

I don’t know if this might help but here’s your page from 15 August 2017 https://web.archive.org/web/20170815095632/https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/BlueLightning42

Blue Ϟ Lightning

ack anwer I wrote was from phone last night and half asleep so it wasn’t posted as a reply to you >_<
but tldr great idea.

Joe

Haha glad it was useful! I had the same issue with motivation a few months ago, I ended up abandoning Witcher 3 and ACIV only a few hours in as I wasn’t feeling it, I just accepted I wasn’t in the right mood and looked for shorter games instead which did the trick. One game I haven’t seen anyone mention from your unplayed is The Norwood Suite, that will provide an interesting experience for sure lol.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Thats really smart and I feel really stupid for not having thought of that.
(Now i can figure out a how many games i added how many i beat/completed etc
Everything else can be extrapolated

stef

If it helps I can recommend some games you’ve never played that I enjoyed. It’s not a challenge, just a suggestion :P

A Hat In Time - a very cute and fun 3D platformer that gets addicting super fast.
fault - milestone two side:above - A kinetic novel that is better then the first imo.
Kentucky Route Zero - They still haven’t come out with the last episode but this is a very easy game to chill and play and it left me very intrigued by the story.
Rakuen - Also an easy game to pick up and play. Has an emotional and wonderful story.
Soul Gambler - an alright VN. It’s about an hour to beat so it’s perfect if you want to play a game but not invest time or brainpower.

Don’t feel pressured to play any of these, just thought I’d try and help ^-^

Blue Ϟ Lightning

thank you for your recommmendations stef <3
I just started school again so my rampage of game playing through the summer cannot continue at nearly the same pace
so smol games can still give me the satisfaction of completing them without the time investment.

godprobe

Weird suggestion… try putting on a Let’s Play of a game that you’ve wanted to play… but… not really wanted to play.
(For me, for example, a game that I’m completely fine with having just watched a Let’s Play of it, rather than playing it myself was System Shock 1.)

And if that doesn’t scratch the itch at all, I still know the feeling. It’s weird, isn’t it?

Blue Ϟ Lightning

it is a kinda weird suggestion.
to be honest there isn’t any games I can think of like that…while if I change my thinking a bit it becomes my whole library.
and I don’t feel up to watching lets plays of games I own :/

but thanks for the suggestion I’ll try it out soon.

tsupertsundere

I get that feeling. I think stef’s suggestions are all really spot on, and great places to start.

One thing you might try is pick a game you loved and play it again. Revisiting old favorites can be great! Or you can do what I do and leave it up to RNGesus - just playing something to break the executive dysfunction of not… knowing… where to start… is worth it, especially if you’re gentle with yourself and give yourself permission to bounce off the game if you’re just not feelin it after an hour or so.

We’ve all been there, Blue, and you’re not alone! Big big hugs

Blue Ϟ Lightning

in terms of randomly picking I have LIS before the storm to play this month (PoP) and while I was really excited to pick it up (I liked life is strange) Chloe pisses me off and the whole concept of getting into back talk battles and standing in front of trains till just before it hits then jumping off and giving the driver a middle finger while he panic…ally screeches by just doesn’t appeal to me. like I get her friend left her but shes a complete douche and playing it is just annoying me right now (so I’ve been touching it in smol bursts)

anyways I’ll try to bounce around a bit and see if that helps

tsupertsundere

Yeesh, I liked and related to Chloe a lot in LiS, and that sounds annoying as hell even to me.

I hope it does, Blue!

skanda

I really disliked her in LiS, but thought she was okay in BtS.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I didn’t like her alot in LiS and the way she tried to get all the attention when kate was going through some shit kinda annoyed me but by the end I didn’t mind her that much.

howeeeever
shes so much more annoying in BtS

The above comment works for me as well. I need to be hyped up a lot of the times to play, by watching streams/let’s plays or even just reading people’s excited opinions on a game they’re playing. Even though I love gaming, I often have a hard time picking one up. Especially when I’m exhausted a lot or not in the best mental state, being able to sit back and watch someone enjoy a game (even if only 10-20 minutes) usually gives me that spark to actually start playing myself.

If still nothing works for you, maybe a lil break is the answer? Sometimes I get in the habit of gaming or focus too much on stats/achievements, that I start to lose that charm and have to reremind myself why I play games. Or I’ll switch it up a bit and focus on a different hobby (while still reading or watching some stuff) til I get that urge again.

I hope you’re able to find a game that resonates with you + get out of the slump!! :3

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I’m already in a partial break…one that will last me 4 months (3d year of uni started last week)
but just because I’m busier/no longer free as soon as work is over I’m left with less time to sit back and play something I don’t want to stop playing games because of it.

EvilBlackSheep

hugs

We all pass through this phase at one time or another, and then it goes away. Stef already posted you great suggestions of picked games. I usually go for the randomizer integrated in SteamCompletinist to let RNGsus pick for me when i’m really undecided, but any can work for you. If you’re in that meh state where you really feel like playing nothing even games you were really hyped about when they joined your backlog.

As for getting statistics, I suggest using completionist.me, it does give you a lot of them :3

I hope it gets better for you soon, and you get the motivation to play back. miss you

Blue Ϟ Lightning

this is such a nice comment but I have no clue how to reply >_< miss me what how why
These stats are so pretty omg why didn’t I know about this… (actually knew about completionist.me but…not about all these pretty stats)

EvilBlackSheep

You know why where how silly blue

I know right? I keep looking at the stats, and barely go to astats anymore since I discovered completionist.me (some other assassin posted about it a while ago) Stats are love, and the main reason I keep making a montly post, because i love to have stats to look back at when the end of the year arrives.

Formidolosus

+1 to the stats… I also find that since achievements became essentially meaningless, I’m mostly just in it for myself nowadays, and completionist has become the main site I visit. No better way to keep track of games I’m trying to finish than all those graphs and numbers.

godprobe

+1 to not knowing the completionist.me site – it’s great! Not just the stats, but the speed, too! Thank you for that link! :)

EvilBlackSheep

You’re welcome. As I was saying, another assassin posted about it and it’s how I discovered it. I find it so much more handy than Astats.

robilar5500

I experience library gazing too often.
My cure is to make sure I have some “I’ve always meant to play this” type games downloaded. When I find myself randomly scrolling through my games and not picking anything, I just go ahead and start one of those. It’s the perfect way to catch up on missed titles.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

So my version of that is the ABC plan I started a year ago.
when I finished any challenge me’s or other plans and didn’t know what to play next id revert to the next entry in it alphabetically.
the only problem is my last game is umineko which is a visual novel and (really good but~) sooo long.
like I think the average completion for it is 80 hours. I haven’t had to read a vn this large before and its hard to do so in one stretch.

robilar5500

Yeah, that’s a beast. I think the longest I’ve played a VN is around 40 hours (Steins;Gate). That was an amazing game though, so totally worth it. :)

Vito

I second the suggestion of completionist.me. It’s a great site I often use to look at my stats. The ‘History’ gives you a nice overview of your recent games. I especially like the game completion bars of the right hand side – looking at games with low completion has been my way to pick what to play next for the last few months. It’s only really good for games with achievements though.

Suffering from decision paralysis still often makes me unable to play anything for some time. It’s hard to say what really helps in the long run. Changing things up and looking for some other stuff to do besides gaming often helps me, but not always.

I guess what I want to say is: I get your feeling, it’s hard to say what really helps. I hope it gets better soon and wish you all the best :)

Blue Ϟ Lightning

completionist.me is so nice I’m really glad it was recommended.
and thanks I’ll try all the suggestions given \o/

Traqie

Just get motivated again LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL 4Head

But seriously now, maybe you should just take a short break from gaming? Watch some movies, catch-up on your favorite youtubers/streamers, maybe you have some YT videos in “watch later” playlist you forgot about? Or books? Just do something else for a little time, helps me when I don’t feel like gaming, maybe it will help you too? :)

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Best answer \o/ lol

School started a week ago (3d year of uni wew almost there) so I straight up haven’t played anything for a week.
and I do feel like gaming cause I navigate straight to my steamlibrary to scroll through. (I’ve flipped to youtube but end up going back to my library cause there wasn’t anything new I wanted to watch on yt)

GiseIIe

Blueee I haven’t played any vn for a whole season
if you find any motivation pls lend me some of it (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡

Blue Ϟ Lightning

:gasp: how
thats like your personality its apart of you :scream:

and will do :3

skanda

:blobdognom:

Gib more TTS!

Arbiter Libera

You can also leave it to luck with a randomizer of some kind.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Someone already recommended steam completionist for this.
Thabk you for another option (the only problem with this/steamdb’s is i keep getting games ive already played/beaten and then when i start skipping i end up skipping loads even ones i havent played…steam completionest lets you mark stuff as beaten so it wont reccomend it)

86maylin

That’s like me near the end of the vacation. lol It’s like, I have all these games installed on my computer, some I’ve been playing for a while, others I’ve stopped, and there’s the ones that I’m challenged to play, yet, I just don’t have any motivation to play any of them. Looking at all those icons and none that interests me to make me want to click on it.
Ended up browsing sites and watching Youtube videos. But it was not a good feeling since I would like to play some games. :<
I think for me I just need someone else to play with/talk to. Maybe cuz I haven’t been socialing for a while and feels lonely just playing games all day. But I’ve been having a lot of fun playing MHW with my bff, and that in turn makes me want to play other games more.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Yesh i played tts with people and ghat was fun but i have no motivation to play stuff alone its 100% the same
