Challenge me! Monthly Edition
(16.06.2020 - 16.07.2020)
previous
Have a year is done. Although I think we hardly did half the things we wanted to do? Damn you Corona.
Let's hunt down the backlog with 5 chosen games. Please pick one featuring water to fit also the theme.

For Pickers. Just copy paste and complete the data :)

* [GAME#1](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#1-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#1-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#2](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#2-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#2-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#3](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#3-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#3-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#4](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#4-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#4-HLTBTIME
* [GAME#5](http://store.steampowered.com/app/GAME#5-ID/) - HLTB Time: GAME#5-HLTBTIME

  • Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
  • If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
  • Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.
  • Same for Early Access (I know some people want to wait for release).
  • When you finish one (or more) of the games picked for you, please post an update by replying to your picker's comment.
  • If the game has achievements, you can link to either the Steam or Astats page corresponding to your progress.
  • If the game doesn't have achievements, please post a screenshot showing your completion.
  • Finally, if you have completed all the games that were assigned to you but want another go at it, feel free to post another application.
  • You can pick for/challenge up to 2 fellow assassins, please refrain to pick more so everybody who wants get a chance at it.
  • You can pick for anybody who has applied and hasn't been given a list yet, unless they specified otherwise (see next point). It is recommended to signal with a "reserved" comment that you're currently picking for that person. This way it'll avoid the situation where you spend time picking games just to come back to somebody's comment 2 minutes prior.
  • Please use the following criteria when picking a list for somebody.
  • Pick exactly 5 games
  • Length-wise: at least 2 short games (under 10h to beat) and 2 medium (under 15-20h). You can use HLTB to check the time, or more conveniently the Enhanced Steam browser extension (it shows the HLTB time directly on the game's steam page). That rule can be overridden by the bottom (i.e. pick 5 short games) but not the other way around, as not everybody has the same time to dedicate to gaming.
  • Pick two SG wins unless the person specified SG wins only, in which case pick only in the applicant's SG wins list.
  • Quality-wise: at least 3 of the 5 games should have a positive (or above) rating. You can use this site to quickly sort games in a user's library by ratings (thanks to JaffaCaffa for the suggestion).
  • Please, respect the applicant's choice regarding multiplayer-only and Early access games, as well as other requests (exclusion of certain genre etc.).
  • Please use the code below to post your comment, it's already formatted, you just have to copy/paste & complete the data.

Do I have to participate in this event?
No, this is an event to help you reduce your backlog. If you already have a plan and don't want anyone to pick games for you, you're free to ignore it.

What happens if I don’t participate in the event?
Absolutely nothing.

What happens if I play all the games picked for me this month?
Still nothing. (You might get a shiny profile badge at some later date. And you can come back for another batch.)

What if I don’t have time to play 5 games?
Don’t worry, one is enough, we’re just asking the pickers to select 5 to give the player a little choice.

One of the game picked for me won’t run on my computer for X or Y reason, what do I do?
If this happens, please notify the picker by replying his comment and ask them to pick a replacement. If the original picker don’t give you an answer within 24h, don’t panic, just leave a comment and we’ll pick one for you. Meanwhile, you could try one of the other picked games if you haven't played them all yet.

I played all 5 games that were picked for me and I want more!
If you have completed all 5 games and reported your completion to the original comment, you can make a new request for another list.

When picking for other people, can I only pick “never played” games?
Not necessarily, you can also pick games that seem to have been abandoned but haven’t been categorized as “won’t play”. No beaten or completed games, or games being currently played obviously.

Why are there so many rules for picking the games? I can’t be bothered!
We’re trying to make this enjoyable for everyone so if you decide to pick games for others, please read and follow the rules. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the pickers too, but if it’s bothering you too much, remember you don’t need to pick games for others to join the challenge.

I’m new here, can I join the challenge?
Yes of course (and welcome to BLAEO). Please just be sure to have your games sorted by progress before signing up for the challenge, to make it easier for your picker.

Cece09

Oh new picture very nice

Please pick from this list https://www.backlog-assassins.net/lists/ydew2vd

Moony1986

Okay I tried to add games from different genres. Hope you’ll enjoy them. Let me know if anything should be changed :)

Cece09

oh always nice to have someone I recognise pick for me, especially when they can watch me beat it for the play win event :D
Oh thanks for the games

Moony1986

Yep I think at least some should fit this months theme :)

Cece09

the list i gave you all fit next months theme which im getting people to pick so i have something planned but yeah i can definitely fit in some of these games for this month

Aiori

I want to enlarge my challenge me list, to play from time to time…I know that is from month to month, but I have few time lately. Please pick 5 games, if possible short, no multiplayer, and with a variety of genres. No need the one of the monthly theme because I am playing one related to the ocean at this moment. I will finish them eventually sooner than later. I got nice surprises in the past, I hope more in the future.

Aquilla

So - I’m usually trying to pick games which I played and liked, and I see a few nice things in your list

  • RiME - HLTB Time: 5,5 h I love RiME. It’s such a gorgeuos game. It’s a mix between action and puzzle game, mostly puzzle. Gameplay is nice, but what is the best it’s the atmosphere. Reminding me of Team ICO games - like Shadow of the collossus and Last Guardian.
  • Mirrors Edge - HLTB Time: 6 h - pure joy of movement - the only time I saw parkour in FPP game done just right.
  • Snake Pass - HLTB Time: 5.5 h - very interesting and unique platformer. Can mess with your brain, because the movement here is different than in any other game, but when you feel it - great fun.
  • Oxenfree - HLTB Time: 4.5 h - very weird game, and original too. technically it is an adventure game, but it’s also visual novel… with a twist. Hard to explain, but worth check.
  • Bastion - HLTB Time: 6 h - Bastion is just absolutely awesome - it’s a hack and slash type game, with great, great writing, and good story. Love it.
Aiori

Thanks! Nice selection. Several persons recommended me Bastion, it´s time to check it, among the others of course!

Moony1986

I’m totally in again :D

Please no multiplayer only or games which require a controller :) Also nothing with more than 24 hours HLTB as I also want to still get to an end at Stardew Valley :D

Thanks in advance!

Tristar

Alright, reserving to pick endless multiplayer only controller requiring games :3

Moony1986

I hope you didn’t get lost in the pile of shame :3

Tristar

The above average sample size took indeed a bit longer to go through (but I also got held off by some other stuff in between)

Unfortunately I haven’t found any multiplayer controller only games (actually I did xD) so these will hopefully fit ^^

Banzai Escape 2h
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter 4h
Death Rally (Classic) 6h
Kingdom: Classic 7-12h
Ignis Avis Venatio 10?h

Kingdom is one of my favorites, such awesome music. And played through Death Rally so many times back in the days.

Moony1986

I would have guessed that a big one would make it easier to find something of the “OMG how could you live without playing this?” category quite fast :D

Thanks a lot for your selection! Just one wish: Could you please switch Ethan Carter as I already played the Redux version (forgot to mark the normal version here as completed, so my fault.) Would be nice if would be a non SG win, as three of the others are already a win :)

Otherwise I accept the challenge =)

Tristar

For me the amount made it actually harder to spot the gems (and there I thought I found one with Vanishing Carter xD) which is why I focused on the SG list, after checking for personal favorites :3

But discovered a nice alternative, which also fits the month’s theme:

Submerged 3h

Also saw Subnautica (which would be such a must-play) or STAR WARS™ Empire at War but with 25+ hours both would be a tad bit too long ^^

Moony1986

Thanks a lot for the new pick :)

I will check my games then and create some lists to make it easier for future pickers :)

Yes Subnautica was the one I thought of when I read the theme but then I saw the HLTB time and didn’t add it because I already had Stardew Valley as a quite long game.

PS: I finished Ignis Avis Venatio

Moony1986

Submerged and Banzai Escape done :)

The other two I will play next month ;)

Moony1986

Aaaand… done :D

Kingdom: Classic: This was a surprise as it is definitely not my favorite genre but it was really good. I went for the 100 days achievement but I’ve added it to my “second walkthrough” list to try to get some more of them at another time :)
Death Rally (Classic): I proved that I’m really bad at racing games, but on the easiest difficulty I was able to beat it :D Was a lot of fun!

Thanks again for your selections :) I already started to create a short list for the next month :D

Aquilla

Ok, I think I will try this month. Choose for me something nice.

Bangledeschler
  • Bayonetta - HLTB Time: 11h - A favorite of mine as I like Hack/Slash games like DMC and has that weird Japanese humor/style. “As long as there’s music, I’ll keep on Dancing”
  • Hacknet - HLTB Time: 8h - A surprisingly close interpretation of hacking compared to some other games out there. Though not the real thing, it’s still satisfying and gives a fitting soundtrack while you do it. “connect. scan. cd .., cat, disconnect”
  • Mass Effect 2 - HLTB Time: 24h - A little bit of a long one, but I love the ME series and hope that you get a chance to get through the trilogy. “I’m Commander Shepard and this is my favorite game on steam.”
  • Hitman: Absolution - HLTB Time: 12h - A solid, if not a little silly, in the Hitman series as it allows multiple ways of going about your contracts. Also quite fitting as we are Backlog Assassins :3 “A man will come and take you away. This man is different, he will protect you. Please don’t judge him for what he might have to do. Some day, you will understand.”
  • Batman - The Telltale Series - HLTB Time: 8h - Pretty decent story while providing both service to long time fans of Batman and providing surprises. New people to Batman won’t be left behind either as it is self sufficient. “I do it because I can’t afford to take a night off. I do it because people rely on me to be there when things like this happen. I do it BECAUSE I AM BATMAN”
Aquilla

Thank you very much. I need to think, what I want to play first because I see here a couple of good games

Bangledeschler

Take your time and take it easy, hope you get to enjoy all of them. ^_^

Bangledeschler

2 for 2 so far, let’s amp up my backlog contracts.

JaffaCaffa

Hahaha that got a good laugh out of me. :D So true!

Lemme know if you’d like anything swapped! I really enjoyed Tacoma and am currently playing A Hat in Time & liking what I’ve played so far. And Katamari has been on my radar, looks hilarious.

Bangledeschler

Glad you appreciated it. ^_^ I probably put more effort into it than I should have, but I laughed too.

Oh man, this feels like a heavy challenge, but in a good way. Basically just a bunch of hard hitting games I have been meaning to play i.e. Hat in Time and Katamari Damacy. Looking forward to getting through these and… to keep with the theme.

JaffaCaffa

(have fun :D)

Bangledeschler

Thank you kindly for challenging me this month. A lot of great games where none were ever below a 6/10. Here are my stats:

Tacoma
Time 3.6h

Completed

I originally expected this to be quite puzzle heavy when it was more of a game where you can choose to experience the happenings of the space station or just complete your objective. Still decently enjoyable enough and neat little interactive objects to find.

The Flame in the Flood
Time 5.5h

Beaten

Slowly, but surely complete as it is relatively challenging.
“Everything is terrible” the Game… or at least for a good portion of it as I tried to survive my way down this not-so-lazy river. Often found myself going onto an island only to have three wolves tell me I came into the wrong neighborhood. There isn’t a whole lot of direction (aside from the path of the river) of what you can or should do. Which, fair enough, one trying to survive is not going to inherently know what to do, how to treat, or how to build necessarily, so it only built the immersion despite it feeling a little rough. Yet, when I did finally survive enough days and get myself by a little easier, there was a form of gratification. Like an accomplishment feeling for not only surviving, but starting to do well and gather necessary gear/raft modifications. Something I didn’t really expect to like. It also did some great pairing of music to what was a southern U.S. survival adventure down a mighty river. There is definitely a strong chance I will do some more survival runs on this game, but sometime in the future. A great, but struggling, time.

SENRAN KAGURA SHINOVI VERSUS
Time 21.5h

Completed

Cannot deny that I wasn’t originally interested in this because it was an anime style fighter with cute girls. Despite expectations the game had a bit of a fleshed out story. Only a shame that the fighting was kind of skimpy, much like some of the clothing options, in comparison. There was a repetition of being torn if I would have rather just it have been straight versus the bosses (other fighters) and leave out all the mob battles as the really long linear paths never felt satisfying. While in the circle arena areas I found it generally enjoyable to combo large groups of enemies. There also didn’t seem to be much reason to swap out to more than a couple combos which gave more of a stale feeling. Still was able to find good aspects about it and surprisingly like the story for the lawful good team which is out of character for me as it seemed they had the most character development.

Katamari Damacy REROLL
Time 4.7h

Beaten

Will Complete on a rainy day that needs some chill
One of those games that I held some interest when it first came out and never got the chance to play it. Luckily it rolled it’s way onto Steam.. and well here we are. I specifically remember seeing old shows about gaming review this game and it was every bit as weird as they explained it. A sort of classic Japanese weird with both the game, story, and art. I did expect it to have more challenging gameplay, but a pleasant surprise as it was more… relaxing to just roll around as you slowly make your ball bigger to ridiculous proportions. Something else that took me by surprise was the great soundtrack that I feel know one has ever mentioned. Perhaps not enough people played it, but excellent music to go along with this chill adventure.

A Hat in Time
Time 9.9h

Beaten

Eventually complete, but need to focus on some other things first.
Honestly, this game never really caught my eye until the Nyakuza Metro as before it never really seemed to have anything interesting. This is the very reason I couldn’t believe how much I actually liked the base game with the kind of sassy, but cute, little girl in the hat. Interactions between various enemies, bosses, and the world was just kind of heartwarming and fun as well as generally solid game play. I did feel the air attack was a bit wonky and that most of the worlds should have been more free roam instead of ending once you get your time piece. The Nyakuza Metro is definitely my favorite part of the game and outfit to customize with. Plan to play more once I have a little less backlog to tackle (or in needing to warm the heart). Probably my favorite game out of this challenge.

JaffaCaffa

I’m impressed you managed to beat The Flame in the Flood so quickly! I’ve done 3 or 4 runs, but had a ways to go before beating it (my furthest was around two-thirds down the river, which I was quite proud of). Completely agree with you, tough but surprisingly satisfying.

Congrats on beating every game, happy to hear you had fun overall. :) And appreciate all the reviews! Was nice hearing your thoughts.
Checked out Katamari’s soundtrack, particularly liked Que Sera Sera and Fugue #7777. :D

ninglor03

Would somebody pick for me? I don’t know if I will manage to do it, but I shall try.
Pls pick games from my Poplist, but you can also go by my pop length wise lists :)
Guess in that case I don’t even need restrictions :D
Ty <3

adil
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - HLTB Time: Main Story 46 Hours / Main + Extras 82 Hours - First pick because you should focus on this game! It’s a pretty cool game and you have to beat it once at least so it’s a fitting first pick.
  • Passpartout: The Starving Artist - HLTB Time: Main Story 3½ Hours / Completionist 9½ Hours - To fulfil your completist needs. Though the game looks intriguing and interesting and I am curious about it so play it for me please? xD
  • NEKOPARA Vol. 1 - HLTB Time: Main Story 4½ Hours / Completionist 5 Hours - Here’s my other treat to fulfil your completist needs! Again, I simply picked it out of curiosity and reviews for it are “Overwhelmingly Positive”… So it shouldn’t be bad, right? Well, you’ll tell me maybe! :D
  • The Last Birdling - HLTB Time: Main Story 3½ Hours / Completionist 6½ Hours - And here’s the last treat. Seems like a fitting game to follow up after the catgirls from above. Seems like an interesting story too.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider - HLTB Time: Main Story 13 Hours / Completionist 35 Hours - And for the last pick, my favourite game that I played last year. I think a regular playthrough should take you about 20 or so hours if you do some side quests here and there. 100% should be more than 40h I think, probably 50h? So a long road ahead if you plan to tackle it 100%. But it’s a really great game to explore and enjoy so maybe try to enjoy the journey without hunting achievements first if you pick this one up? Because it might turn out to be a nightmare again (less than MGS probably, but definitively not an easy one to 100%).

So here are my picks.
Hopefully you’ll enjoy them and manage to get at least one down (you know which one I’m talking about yes?). And yeah I picked two pretty lengthy games so I tried to compensate with three rather short one. They’re all from your Poplist.
Diversity ain’t perfect as you get two VN games and two actions adventure games. But there’s one Bob Ross (or Van Gogh) simulator in there too to spice things up! Haha. Though just let me know if you want to switch out a game or two.

ninglor03

You sure want me to play this, huh? :D
I shall do it. Thanks a bunch for picking them <3

Cece09

oh ninny poor you. you cant escape the game

ninglor03

I could abandon it!
But I shall try not too. I decided to go for the Main Missions and see how that works out without the Side OPs.

adil

I don’t want you to hate MGS! I always found it hard to get back into a massive game if I put it on hold for too long., that’s why I included it.

ninglor03

And you are absolute right with that. I’m happy you picked it <3

ninglor03

Update inc:

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - abandoned D:
Nekopara Vol.1 (and Vol.0) - completed \o/
Passpartout - completed <3

adil

Oh I didn’t see you finished passpartout, so how was it?
I saw one of your drawings if I remember right, and you really worked hard!

ninglor03

I liked it! Once I figured out what every customer wants it was way easier. But it was great fun trying to actually draw. It would have been better if I didn’t do it with mouse. But there we go. All mouse made art :D
Btw. I’m currently playing The Last Birdling. Not sure if I’ll manage Tomb Raider any time soon though.

adil

That’s nice to know. I was also a bit scared the mouse art would be annoying but you did well!

And you managed your challenge pretty nicely too. 4 games out of 5 down! You can get back to TR whenever you feel like it, but it’s just too bad you didn’t like MGS though.

ninglor03

Ah, I just started the Birdling, not done yet. But it shouldn’t take too long :]

Yeah, it’s a shame. I think the mechanics of the game is nice enough and hunting down stuff would totally be a thing I’d do, but the story kept freaking out and I really don’t need that from a game. So yeah, sadly not my cup of tea. But I guess it’s good to know :)
Thanks again for the picks \o/

Rederdex

Kind of succesfully completed last month’s challenge.
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do this, but pick one game from each link. The water game I started to play is Glowfish, and I think I will just stick with it (and maybe Barotrauma) for the time being :)

Steam Gifts
My childhood games, I’m actually hyped for this choice
Random games from bundles, let’s see if there’s any hidden gems in there
Humble choice… Trying to make the money waste hurt a bit less :)

I don’t really care that much about the game’s length, as long as it’s fun. So hit me with anything. I’m also fine with completing beaten games, as long as they don’t have grindy achievements.

Sorry in advance for the messy lists

Edit:
Please try to avoid MP only games if possible. Anything else should be fine

kubikill

Reserved! This is OK but we have to pick 5 games so I’ll pick an extra game from your SG list :)

kubikill
  • Suits: A Business RPG - HLTB Time: 4 hours - A short, unique RPG Maker game with jokes around each corner.
  • Among the Heavens - HLTB Time: 6 hours - A Diner Dash-like game with a match-3 minigame. Never heard about this game, but it seems decent.
  • Just Cause 2 - HLTB Time: 18 hours - I probably don’t have to explain that one. Maybe it doesn’t have as many cool toys as JC3, but it’s nonetheless, it’s still a great game!
  • Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap - HLTB Time: 5 hours - A wonderful (pun not intended) remaster of a classic Sega Master System platformer. It’s quite challenging (as you’d except from a retro game), but not overly difficult.
  • Eliza - HLTB Time: 5½ hours - A visual novel made by Zachtronics. I’m yet to play this one, but I heard great things about it.

Hope you enjoy my picks! Let me know if you need something changed.

Rederdex

I was considering glowfish to be the 5th game :P

But it’s all fine, I will try to get all of them nonetheless :)

Edit:
Just cause 2 I actually wanted to wait until I’m done with JC3 to start (I have completed the 2nd on an Xbox 360 a looooong time ago, so I know what it’s all about), but I guess I’m going to do them in the right order now :)

Wonder boy I have started to play, and have noticed that it’s actually a great game, can’t wait to complete it as well.

Thanks a lot for the list. I will try to update it as much as possible over the next month

kubikill

ah whoops I forgot about that! I can swap it with any of the games if you’d like.

Rederdex

Nope, it’s fine. I just want to complete more and more games… I don’t really remember the story connecting in any way whatsoever anyway. So it’s fine.
At least this will kind of push me to get them done :)

Rederdex

Update:

As the month just ended, I managed to at least finish JC2. The other ones I’ve started… But the only one that’s even close to being done is Among the Heavens.

Sadly I didn’t have as much time to play this month as I’ve expected, due to school and work, but now that I got my summer holiday I’ll just continue to play the other 4 ones until they’re done. I should be done with everything in under 15 hours, so it’s not thaaaaaat bad.
Thanks for the choices, and let’s hope that this month will be a bit better at least.
(I did score some completions on the games I got from the summer sale… So there’s that I guess :) )

kubikill

Not bad! At least you finished the longest game out of the ones on the list :) Good luck with your next challenge!

Rederdex

I am in the final levels of Among the Heavens. It just gets really repetitive after you do 3-4 levels though, and I’ve gotta take a few hours break from it each time. I will try to finish that today though, and I’ll see how far I can get the other ones next week.
I am actually not disappointed by the progress I made on my backlog this month (I might have bought too many new games though… As always :( )

kubikill

Let’s do this again! This time, however, in addition to Steam games, please pick at least 2 3DS games from the list on my profile desc.

Rederdex

Reserved! you pick for me, so I’ll pick for you :P

Rederdex

I didn’t wanna get you anything too long, yet also get you some games I know that are good. Let me know if you want anything swapped.

Game How Long to Beat - Main story/Completionist
Steam Gifts win-Hitman GO: Definitive Edition HLTB - 5hrs/7hrs
Steam Gifts win #2-Kingsway HLTB - 5hrs/36hrs
A Story About My Uncle HLTB - 3hrs/8.5hrs
Grim Fandango Remastered HLTB - 11hrs
Spec Ops: The Line HLTB - 6hrs/15.5hrs
3DS Game-Kirby: Triple Deluxe HLTB - 7hrs/25hrs
3DS Game #2-Yoshi’s New Island HLTB - 7hrs/28hrs

For the steamgifts game, I just went with the only games that you have not yet completed, and that you liked the most, considering that you have started all of them already.

ASAMU is one of my favorite platforms up to date, yet it’s not even that hard. The story was good, and when it released it had amazing graphics, that kind of hold up even to this day.

Grim Fandango I haven’t played myself yet, but I heard just great stuff about it.

Spec ops was already on your challenge me list, but it seems you haven’t finished it yet. I have played it for the last month’s challenge, and I can only recommend it right now. The first one to maybe two hours of the game are pretty plain, but it gets great afterward. A must-play for sure.

The 3DS games I haven’t play myself, but I did play games from both of the series on the SNES back in the day and I just loved them. Let’s hope the “newer” games are still as great.

I have tried to find games that you have not started yet, that are not toooooooo long and that I know for a fact are good. There are also some that you have started, but not yet finished.

kubikill

Thank you for the picks, they’re great :)

Hitman GO and Spec Ops: The Line were picked for me in an earlier Challenge Me! already, but I haven’t managed to finish them yet. This may be the push I need to finally beat them :)

Good choices on the 3DS games too! I’ve played the earlier games too and they were fun to play through. I hope for the same :)

Rederdex

Glad to hear you like them. I really wish you a ton of luck with them (Even though we all know real gamers don’t need luck)

kubikill

Here’s an update:

  • Hitman GO: Definitive Edition - ~6h playtime on Android (completed) - A decent puzzle game with a cool board game aesthetic. The levels themselves aren’t too hard, but some of the secondary objectives are.
  • Kingsway - 0h playtime (unplayed) - didn’t manage to play it this time, focused on other games instead. I’ll still come back to this game sometime later, though.
  • A Story About My Uncle - 5h playtime (completed) - A 3D FPP platformer. Swinging through the areas was quite fun, but some of them were either too dark or too misty. Tbh the story didn’t interest me that much… and the protagonist’s voice seemed very unenthusiastic. I tried to get all achievements, but I gave up because I was too bored to do the same levels over and over again.
  • Grim Fandango Remastered - 8h playtime (completed) - A point and click game that almost became a masterpiece, if it weren’t for the hard and ridiculous puzzles. You’ll definitely want to use a walkthrough (or UHS if you just want hints) to play this.
  • Spec Ops: The Line - 8h playtime (completed) - A TPS game with generic gameplay and a solid story with unexpected twists. Tried to go for 100%, but I didn’t want to do 2 more playthroughs of the same game.
  • Kirby: Triple Deluxe - ~5h playtime (unfinished) - So far I got through the first 3 worlds and it seems to be a good continuation of the series.
  • Yoshi’s New Island - 0h playtime (unplayed) - Haven’t managed to play that one yet either, will probably start it after completing Kirby.

Overall I’m pretty satisfied with the end result! Grim Fandango was probably my favorite from the bunch. Thanks again for picking :)

skanda

https://i.imgflip.com/45ocja.jpg

Please no early access or multiplayer only games.
(If possible, I’d prefer something with a good story that’s not overwhelmingly long.)

Tristar

The Talos Principle knocks at the door :3

As I’ve chosen only recently, might want a different perspective, but I could pick again of-course ^^

skanda

Yes, The Talos Principle is permanently on the “I should really go back and finish this game!” list. :D

Smythe

One of the Shadowrun games? they’re not too long and you have three to choose from :)

Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown 0 minutes
Shadowrun: Dragonfall about 1 hour
Shadowrun: Hong Kong 0 minutes

Smythe

I read the guidelines this time, sorry! :)
I’ve chosen a range of different types of game, as I find that I feel like playing different games when I feel differently or depending on how much time I have.
The only game I haven’t played myself is Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and I’ve enjoyed all of them for different reasons.

Thank you for the picks, looks good! :3

Just finished a playthrough of Beholder! It was nice to play an Orwell-like game again, but I wish I felt like there was more weight behind my choices.

Glad to see you tackling some of the picks :)
I need to go back to Beholder. It was kind of interesting, but didn’t really hold my interest. I should give it another shot.

I’m late to this one!

Please choose shorter titles.
No multiplayer games.
Fine with early access.
No horror which overly uses jumpscares. I’m bad at horror so please pick light ones.
For easier picking, look at To Play and ABC plan lists. :3
As always, thanks for digging through my huge backlog. x3

Chose games that I enjoyed myself. Not sure, if you already played Abzu, as you have a couple of achievements and playtime.

Thanks for the picks! I am planning on continuing ABZU for monthly theme so that pick is perfect. :P

I suppose I should post a status update since I’m going to join in on a new month. Always a couple days late. ^^;
Finished The Silent Age and But to Paint a Universe. They are ok. The Silent Age I have the same problem with all point and clicks with slow movement and trail and error gaming, but I really like its art style. But to Paint a Universe is fun and enjoyable at first but after a couple of stages I realized that there’s not much skill in the game and I’m all relying on luck with the orb spawns. It honestly would work better if there’s no step limit so it’s truly a casual game where progress is the effort you put in. Also I can’t seem to enter all the bonus stages as it’s all blank and the final stage is greyed out potentially due to not completing all the stages?
