Assassins Assemble!
Mays Theme: STAR WARS

With the recent revival of the epic film franchise and May 4 being an unofficial holiday celebrated by fans of the series, it seemed like a good idea to make our May Monthly Theme “Star Wars”.

There are over 25 different Star Wars games on Steam alone, many of which have been bundled previously. According to data harvested by Mandrill, collectively we own 727 Star Wars games, with 694 of those being either uncategorized, never played or unfinished.
Want to see the data? Click here.

If you don’t own or want to play any Star Wars games you can participate with any “space” themed games, such as: Mass Effect, Kerbal Space Program, System Shock 2, Alien: Isolation, etc.
This website is useful for finding out how many and which games in your library are from specific genres.

There will be three leaderboards for finished games; one for Star Wars, one for space and one for both combined. Currently no prizes or giveaways are guaranteed but that is subject to change further in the month. Besides, we’re here to reduce the backlog, not increase it!

To have your entries count please make sure your progress is up to date and something is posted about each game you’ve played, be it a mini-review or some afterthoughts, perhaps about some difficult levels or a character you liked. Some screenshots would be wonderful too, mandatory for games without achievements as proof of being finished (final boss & credits capture for example).
All entries must be posted before June 1st 2016 00:01 (GMT+0).

Whether you’re seeking harmony with the force or want to unleash your inner power using the dark side now is an excellent time equip your lightsabers and ready your blasters to defeat the backlog!

Good luck. You’re gonna need it.

Please use spoiler tags where appropriate, particularly for Star Wars VII related content. ಠ_ಠ
If you have any questions feel free to add me on Steam or just post a comment below.
Thanks to all the admins for this wonderful group and website! Thanks to DC for his magical abilities with gifs! Thanks to YOU for participating!

Star Wars - Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

    3 hours playtime

    no achievements

Let’s start this one again after beating it like 10 years ago!

Veilor

This is game is great, some maps are pretty hard to progress on though as you have no idea what to do

Ghostie

Think I might try it out given Veilor recommends it too. :)

Teakupo

My total being zero in that spreadsheet is a bit upsetting. D:
But space games sounds fun! I’ll take a looksie to see what I have. I don’t think it’s a lot but I know I have a few. :3

Thyreos

Zero for me too two months in a row now :( But the lorenzostanco site Akantha mentioned is really helpful - It tells me I have 5 space-related games (6 really, but one is already on my won’t play list) and one of those is already next-to-play so I should get at least one played this month yay!

Ghostie

I should say that Revilheart linked the site to me last minute. I didn’t even know it existed. So all credits to them! :)
Hopefully next months theme will be better for you. (Maybe you could even make some suggestions).

Thyreos

I found a few more that are space-related that weren’t tagged as such (Space Hulk, Morningstar) so it’s not perfect, but searching additional tags helps.

Is there a place to suggest upcoming themes? (I think this theme is great by the way - appropriate for May the 4th :) and with the broader space idea helps it be inclusive.)

Ghostie

Yeah, I saw that as well. Having played Morningstar, I know that is exactly the type of game that fits this genre.

Well I bothered DC with the suggestion and he passed it on to the admins.
So no official place that I’m aware, given that the themes are secret til posted probably just message an admin.

kayhmkay

Me too! Actually, I think it’s zero for the third month in a row. :D In March, all the Hook themed games I got during the month.

And, yay, congrats for that one! I’ve got like 150 never played space games, so I might get one too…

Veilor

YES! Hoped for Lucasarts/Star Wars theme as next theme!

Jedi Academy is pretty easy and short if anyone would like to start somewhere :)

Ghostie

I’ll be checking Jedi Academy out then. :)

Veilor

awesome =) I’ll be replaying it!

Baron Khazadson

JA is spot-on, although I still think DF2:Jedi Knight is the best of the series.

adam1224

Jedi Outcast, Academy, Battlefront 2, maybe the older FPS games (damn, page up/down for aiming up and down, and they are terribly placed on my laptop), Force Unleashed 2 (1st one already done), republic commando… maybe replaying KotOR - intresting monthly theme :D and the other space/star (?) based games are also a nice addition to rack up the counter

Ghostie

Seems like you have a lot of choice. :)
Hope they’re good for you.

Downward Concept

Great theme! :)
I updated my playlist for the monthly theme with some games I definitely wanna play. Have to think about some others as I don’t know if they actually fit the space theme.
Also not sure about Doom and Lost Planet, but I’ll let you decide if they fit or not. Will remove them if they don’t.

Veilor

They’re both in the sci-fi genre.

Ghostie

I don’t know if anyone will disagree but they all seem fine to me. :)

Downward Concept

Good, good. Definitely got some more, but these are games I feel like beating. FTL would take too many hours to beat for example and other’s don’t appeal to me yet.

Tanzine

Great idea, except not so much for me… I got no Star Wars games, and only 13 Space games, many of which I already beat… I guess I’ll stick with Borderlands The Pre-Sequel, and hope I can actually finish it this month :)

Ghostie

Pre-sequel is set in space, so that is something. :D Good luck finishing it.

Daerphen

I have 8 Star Wars Games in my Library I won’t participate much in that theme. I do love the star wars universe, but I don’t feel like playing 8 of them in a row.
Even the additional “space” is not motivating me. because I do want to mix my games. Not to play the same type on and on.

For future themes I am hoping to see something like March again. Something which makes it easier to combine total different games.

Crystal

Those games can be still very different gameplay and storywise (from A:I horror to Civ: Beyond Earth strategy or The swapper puzzle-platformer). Hope you’ll find enough of interesting titles to play :)

Daerphen

Yeah, that Space is ok. But they are all around space…
I usually want to play, let’s say: a horror, something fantasy, one rpg, one strategy, one realistic, one visual story, one platformer.

We’ll see. I guess I just stick with my batch. And it happend that there is Mass Effect already planned. So one game fits.

Edit: Oh and I don’t want to rearrange my current batch. Not again. Did this with the last theme and wasn’t happy with that.

Ghostie

Oh no, you shouldn’t do anything you don’t want to! Especially if it makes you unhappy. :s
The themes just a suggestion for those unsure what to play, not mandatory! :)

Crystal

I like it. I expected SW to be this month topic, so at first I got sad (I own only one game and I’m not that big fan of series) but then I read about any space-themed games and this is awesome! I was going to finally play Alien: Isolation and have plenty of other games. Yay :D

Ghostie

Ooh a scary game. Hope you survive.

Narayan

Whelp :P

Theme is indeed fitting - considering May the fourth, and such ;)
Although I don’t own any of the purely Star Wars franchise games, I do have some space themed so I will just need to have a look of what exactly I can fit in here this month :)

Also - neat banner/ intro image :D

Ghostie

Seems like quite a few people have none whatsoever. :s

& Thank you. :)

Quisty

I’m not a big fan of space themed games and it looks like I don’t own too many. I was going to play Banished in Batch 4, but I guess I’ll replace it with Startopia which was OK from the tutorial. And I just redeemed a copy of Space Run from Tremor Games (I love tower defense).
PS: I have a Defy Gravity gift in my inventory if somebody wants it.

Ghostie

Well if you don’t like a theme it’s no worries. :)
Startopia does look interesting though. :o

Quisty

What do you think of Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock? I got a booster pack recently and I remembered I had this from an old Groupees bundle. Could it fit the theme as well?

Ghostie

I have mention above that Morningstar does count. :)

pedro

I have finished that game yesterday :).
Akantha, Do we need a special list in our profile for the monthly theme games?

Ghostie

No special list required, you can do that if you want though. :)

pedro

Then we have to post in a thread when the month is near of end as the last event?

Ghostie

Yes, I will make a thread for you to post like last time. :)

BigBlueWolf

No Star Wars games here, either. But I’ve got a few choices in the space category.

Ghostie

Good luck. :)

tso184

Nice theme!

I could try to complete LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. It’s in an upcoming batch, so I was planning on playing it soon! Would love to play it co op with my brother though, don’t know if he has the time, but I’ll check.

My other two Star Wars games are the KOTOR ones. I played the first one ages ago on console, would love to replay it, but it doesn’t run well with a 16:9 screen, might have to procure a 4:3 one. Would be amazing if it got the same treatment as the second one got (updated for modern rigs, steam workshop integration and more), so I’m not 100% sure I’ll play it just yet.

Other space themed games that I could play are FTL and Syder Arcade.

http://www.lorenzostanco.com/lab/steam/ lists Portal 2 as “space” and “sci-fi”, would it count for the theme?

I’ll put together a list of potential games for the monthly theme!

Ghostie

I’m going to say no to Portal 2, I’ve already had someone ask and although it has a scene in space, the majority of the game is not space themed.
Technically it being tagged with that is a spoiler. D:

tso184

I didn’t get the feeling it would be a “space game”, but I had to ask because of the tags. Thanks for the spoiler then ;) it’s really not a problem, I don’t think knowing that will spoil my playthrough in any way

Ghostie

Hopefully not, It’s a little surprising that it is but I guess that’s the problem with user defined tags. :s

nellyneko

dang, already started that one a few weeks ago, was planning on continuing soon ^^

Ghostie

Sorry. :s

tso184

Also: Very nice presentation for the theme, all thumbs up! :)

Ghostie

& Thanks :)

Teakupo

How should I handle half beaten games? The Spatials and Defy Gravity are both about 50% done before May. I’d restart from the beginning but will they count for the theme still?

Ghostie

I hadn’t really thought about that but probably best to deal with these the same as we did with the DD theme.

A game is considered beaten when you get an achievement that indicates beating it, for replays you have to get a new achievement and submit the time played, preferably adding screenshots to the process.

Veilor

It would be great if you could expand on that? new achievement for replays? screenshot process? Like a few screenshots during the playthrough?

Ghostie

Well if there’s no achievements, then screenshots are needed anyway. Particularly of the end level/boss/credits.
Given as these are replays then maybe need some more proof of actually playing than just some “I completed it” screenies but it also depends on how the game is structured.

Teakupo

Okay thanks. I haven’t actually beat them so I think it will count easily. I’ll take screenshots as well though. :3

BigBlueWolf

This opens up the possibility of finishing the Claptastic Voyage DLC for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
I only got through the first section of it and put it in my “to be finished later” list.

PapaSmok

Nice theme, I should have wait with The Force Unleashed a little longer :)
Does replaying already beaten games just to get all missing achievements (but not going to replay whole main story) will count?

Ghostie

Just in case you don’t see as your question is similar to Teakupos.

I hadn’t really thought about that but probably best to deal with these the same as we did with the DD theme.

A game is considered beaten when you get an achievement that indicates beating it, for replays you have to get a new achievement and submit the time played, preferably adding screenshots to the process.

lmxn

That Star Wars style opening gif made me smile (: (Even though I haven’t watched a single Star Wars film.)
For some reason it’s satisfying to see a whole line of zeros for my row in the spreadsheet. It means I have beaten all the Star Wars games I have! :P At first thought space games don’t really appeal to me, they’re almost always strategy games. Or so I thought. Apparently I have quite a few platformers tagged as “Space”, so I’ll see what I can do about that (:

Ghostie

You haven’t…? :o Maybe you should, even if only to find out you don’t like them :)
I use to think the same thing, there seems to be a lot of space based strategy games around.

lmxn

It’s part of my movie backlog D:

Ghostie

Mays the perfect month to change that. :)

CaerBannog

Only have one Star Wars game (Battlefront 2) but i have plenty of space games :) So I am in ! My exams are coming this month soo i won’t be able to play a lot :/ I’ll do my best! Good luck everyone!

Ghostie

Hope you do well in your exams. :)

CaerBannog

Thanks Akantha :) I hope too ! :P

uguleley

I haven’t got any Star Wars games, but I took a look at the space-themed games I have and looks like Dead Space will be my choice. It’s been untouched in my library for nearly three years, so it’s about time to pick it up. :) Looks like it doesn’t have achievements, so I need to remember to take some screenshots.

Ghostie

I look forward to those screenshots, I remember the game being quite pretty in a macabre sort of manner. :)

kayhmkay

Space, vast and endless.

Just like my backlog.

Full of space/scifi grand strategy. Oy vey.

Ghostie

Well… good luck. :)

Baron Khazadson

As former Vice President/inaugural member of my college’s Star Wars Fan Club circa 2000-2003, I commend this effort. May the FOURTH be with you all.

Unfortunately most of my SW games are either physical copies or on gog, though I’ve got quite a few through Steam too. I don’t know if I will replay anything since I’ve beaten all the SW games in my library at least once but not necessarily through Steam, except Galactic Battlegrounds and LEGO SW Saga. I will definitely play those this month.

Ghostie

Wow. I don’t think my college even had such clubs.

Well, Lego Star Wars is quite funny at least. :)
Maybe you have some alternative “space” games to try.

Baron Khazadson

Well a few friends and I formed it, and then we got our university’s Student Activities Board to pay for our tickets to Star Wars Celebration II in Indianapolis, Indiana before Attack of the Clones came out. We basically pulled a Jedi Mind Trick on ‘em to convince them that it would be educational. Our subsequent “debriefing” if you will was amusing.
Mostly we ate snacks and drank beer and talked about Star Wars films, books, played the rpg, and had mock lightsaber battles using foam and plastic tubing. Good times!

I’ll see how things go with the SW games, I mean I can always replay them, or try out ones on Steam I’ve played elsewhere.

Ghostie

I bet it was amusing. Struggling a tad to see the educational part but it could work. :)

tso184

I checked through the games in my account I could possibly play through connected to the theme.

I ended up with this list of possible games. Akantha, any games that would not qualify for the theme in that list?

I wouldn’t be able to play all of them, and I am planning on playing a few other games in May, so I might end up picking 2-3 games, perhaps more if I have the time.

Ghostie

I think they’re fine. I wasn’t sure about the Warhammer series because I’m not familiar with it but a lot of it seems to be set on various planets.

tso184

Nice, my plan for May is done then. Let’s see how much of it I manage to get through :D I have about 50 hours even before I get to the monthly theme games.

ShandyAndy

I’ll keep my eyes open for people posting any games that fall under the monthly theme that are short (for me that’s 4- hours) and try and give them ago. The only Star Wars game I have that I want to play is STAR WARS™ - Knights of the Old Republic™ but there’s little chance I could finish that in May, even if I started now :)

However, I have loads of space games; it’s just a matter of knowing which ones I have that I would actually like and can finish in a short space of time :)

I’ve added the games I think fit the theme in to my Monthly Theme Group

And my number one wish listed game is Space Run Galaxy which is due out this month ..

adam1224

Any Space Pilgrim game is finishable in a few hours I guess, but so far only played the first one.

Ghostie

They all seem a good fit.
Is Space Run really that good? :)

ShandyAndy

Space Run was the best game I played last year. It’s a very interesting take on tower defence and does involve a lot of micro management to win, which a lot of people didn’t like but I loved. I played it over my two week xMas break only stopped playing it because I went back to work and knew I’d be unable to resist those “just one more go” plays that always seemed to end around 03:00 in the morning ;) I don’t think I quite clocked up 44 hours though - I seem to remember I left it on over night once by mistake so my play time is probably closer to 30 hours

Ghostie

30 hours…. I’d be tempted to try it if it was just a little bit shorter but maybe for another time. :)

Tristar

oh it’s finishable in less, perfect score takes a bit longer yes ^^

Ghostie

All or nothing. :3

Baron Khazadson

Actually you can get through KOTOR in about 20-25 hrs, but that may not be worth doing since it is a game that has enough compelling story to keep one far more invested, imho:)

ShandyAndy

20-25 hours would still be pushing it to finish this month as I’m busy every weekend .. ;) but anyway I’m one of those players who sees or hears something interesting in a game and will go off on a tangent to follow it up. I rarely follow a linear quest line to completion unless there is no alternative ;)

I take it you’d recommend it as a recent RPG?

Tristar

ah, then it’s out for me, don’t want to rush it either ^^

Qu33n0f1c3

If the game takes place on another planet that isn’t “Earth”, and requires space travel to get there (even if you don’t play during said travel), would that count for the theme? Or does the game actually have to take place IN space?

Ghostie

Sounds like it’s alright. Want to say what that game is?

Qu33n0f1c3

I had Axiom Verge in mind particularly but there’s a few other games I’ve got in my backlog that take place on alien worlds. Though I’ve mainly been playing Reassembly for the theme =)

Ghostie

Seems like it’s okay. Set on “surreal alien world” at least.

Daerphen

How about rewarding the player with the most played themed games with Planetary Annihilation: TITANS
I have a spare key for that.

Ghostie

If you wish to do that, then that’s fine by me. :)

Daerphen

great. Maybe you want to make an announcement to motivate people to play a lot of themed games?
Not sure if I want the key to the player with the most played titles or pick one of the top3/5/7 players.

Ghostie

Do you think people need motivation?
My concern is that it’s not so fun if all this amounts to is bribing people to play games they’re not interested in. :s
Prizes & GAs regardless are a nice addition though.

I can make an announcement if you think it’s a good idea but also would be good to know how you want to distribute the game first. :)
It might even be worth waiting a week or two just in case anyone else wants to do GAs too? Mostly to reduce any potential spam. @_@ What do you think?

Daerphen

Motivation is always nice, but maybe you are right, that bribing thing is not the best.
I would have used a RNG-Picker or something because I can’t create a giveaway for that.

Let’s wait a bit, and think this through. Perhaps I will just suprise them when the leaderboard is up ;) Maybe depending what games have been played. I would like to give it to someone, who wants to play RTS-games

Ghostie

Plenty of those about fortunately.

Waiting it is then. :)

Tristar

“can’t create a giveaway for that.”

huh, why that?

Daerphen

it is not on the sg game list. Maybe there was a huge price glitch or promo where you can get it for free.

Tristar

base game was free but never heard smth about Titans., strange..

Tristar

damn that’s a nice reward, too bad I have no chance for a top position xD

Tristar

I’ve seen the Sci-fi tag mentioned here a few times. Do games with it also qualify for the theme?

After playing Sigils with it’s great music, I’ve checked those in Talos. And I just love great game soundtracks. So I wonder if it’s Sci-fi enough to count? ^^

like: Space - Sci-fi - Robots - Talos
yes yes? ^^

or Star Wars has robots too, C3PO looks very similar too the one from Talos, so it must be acceptable xD

(yes I’m kicking myself in the butt for having been too late for it last month ☆o(><;)○ )

Ghostie

Sci-fi by default is not space therefore no.

Crystal

Does Moonlight count for monthly topic? :)
“Moonlight is a short game, about a little character named Kinubo and his quest to the moon!”

P.S. The same question goes for Waveform. Everything about it is space-related - screenshots, achievements.

Ghostie

I’m allowing Too The Moon and as it’s a similar base story to Moonlight, sure. :)
You do have to travel through space to get there after all. :v

Even the story for Waveform is “On your journey to restore light to a dying galaxy” so why not. :)

Crystal

Thanks, started Moonlight :)
